I never really looked into her, after the very first initial reports...I didn't even know she made bail. How the heck was done?! (I'll look up the info, just thinking aloud here). I really (naively), just assumed she's be in jail all this time!

Somehow, I felt this would be treated like more than just a run of the mill "hit & run" like so many others...maybe I thought she wouldn't even try to make bail. I don't know...

I find myself wondering if she's even sane. She obviously wasn't mentally healthy even before she destroyed her children...

I wonder if she's just "Alive' and that's it. Not really caring one way or another, but following the script because...why not?
There's nothing left of her life... why not just go wherever the wind blows... I don't know, but it doesn't sound like she has much of a connection to her Son anymore... Just a shell of a person... Maybe she really doesn't even care what happens to her, but she's going on because... what else is there to do now?
BBM

She made bail because she was able to come up with $75,000...not difficult with her connections and bf...marijuana money. By the time she was finally arrested and made bail, she had been on at least one trip out of the country. Her bf's ex went to court to prevent him from taking their kids on a trip to an amusement park somewhere in CA...with Marci...within a couple of weeks of her daughter's death (Source John Chiv). She showed absolutely no sense of sorrow or propriety...so your "diagnosis" may well be right.

A bit of JK testimony:

During redirect, Jevin Kitchen said, "I was nervous. I was told not to say anything. I was still trying to figure out what to do. Still trying to deal with the loss of my sister. When I gave the statement (July 17) I tried to be as truthful" telling as much he could recall.

"I believe a little bit of me was still trying to protect my mom. Don't want her to leave. What is done is done. What is right needs to be done. This is right.

I'm heartbroken for him!!

Me too. His own mother. I know how he feels through my step son. The one person who you should always trust ....

This is how Medford in Jackson County Oregon handles a drunk mother who caused her child's death...more than six years in prison and three years probation post-release for second degree manslaughter. I wonder how long she will actually be in prison. She happens to be pregnant. I do feel sorry for her family, but not for her.

This is a detailed and thorough description of the preliminary hearing. I particularly like this summary of Deputy DA Eads' statement...

Eads pointed out that the suspect left the scene, made no 911 call, deserted the two girls and left them to die, never admitted to police at the scene or later that she had been behind the wheel, concocted a story that she thought she hit a deer or a pole and sought repeatedly to cover-up her involvement.

IMO The state can rest its entire case on these facts, witnesses to her intoxication and her confession. The defense doesn't have much to work with. Here's hoping it's a slam dunk.

My only fear is no blood alcohol test and she was likely in detox all the while she didn't turn herself in.

No doubt her attorney will try to spin it that way, but the testimony of the officer and her son is really compelling. The officer has experience and could smell it on her when he drove her to the crash site, and her son knows what she's like when he's watched her drink too much. I have a feeling they have bar patrons waiting in the wings to testify too and possibly video of her leaving a bar. It's too bad there was no blood alcohol test, but the officer had no reason to give one...because she concealed the truth.

MK appeared in court today. On June 13 her trial date will be set, depending on availability of experts.

Additional charges were filed...

A felony charge of hit-and-run has been added, as well as special allegations that Kitchen inflicted injuries that resulted in the victim being comatose.

two counts of vehicular manslaughter with special allegations of fleeing the scene and harming multiple victims, and drunken driving causing injury or death.

Here's an article about Kiya's brother Jevin. Despite having an epic failure of a mother, he sound's pretty cool. Some how, I think he will be okay.

Thanks for posting this! What a neat kid. He talks here about the past year and how he barely survived, but kept "grinding." His hard work and the support he has received paid off. He and his high jump will be competing at state this weekend. Go Jevin!

Yet for all the strength Jevin has shown throughout the ordeal, he is still just a young man trying to cope with a life-altering tragedy.
“It definitely threw me back. I don’t know, honestly, how I’m still here,” he admitted. “This whole situation threw me for such a loop that I don’t know how to describe it. This year has been probably the worst year of my life, dealing with so many different things at once. But I got to stay positive and just keep going forward. As much as I try to do that, sometimes you keep going down, but you gotta keep grinding. You have to keep moving forward.”
And, as “grinders” often do, Jevin Kitchen keeps moving in that forward direction.
