Disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein returns to court Thursday seeking to get the criminal charges against him thrown out.

Weinstein's appearance, little more than six months after his dramatic arrest in New York, comes as defense attorneys have argued the case has been tainted by the conduct of a lead police detective and the Manhattan District Attorney's office.

One charge has already been tossed, and the defense wants the rest of the case to go too.

Judge rules Harvey Weinstein sexual assault case can move forward to trial

A New York judge has ruled that the sexual assault case against disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein can move forward to trial.

Weinstein’s next court date is scheduled for March 7.

The judge also ruled that Weinstein’s claims of prosecutorial misconduct had “no basis.” He also denied Weinstein’s request for an evidentiary hearing.

The disgraced Hollywood mogul was in court in Manhattan — along with new lawyers Jose Baez, Ronald Sullivan and Duncan Levin, and former lawyer Benjamin Brafman — as Judge James Burke approved the switch.

Weinstein's trial is tentatively scheduled for May. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for March 8. He is charged with raping a woman in 2013 and performing a forcible sex act on a different woman in 2006. He denies all allegations of nonconsensual sex.

Weinstein's other new lawyer, Pamela Robillard Mackey, didn't attend Friday's hearing because she was out of the country.

Baez is best-known for representing Casey Anthony, the Florida mom whose televised trial in 2011 ended in an acquittal on charges of killing her young daughter.

In September, a trial that's sure to be fodder for "Court TV Mysteries" is when Harvey Weinstein goes on trial for rape in New York in the most high profile legal case of the #MeToo era thus far.

And yet, this trial will present a unique challenge for the network, which admitted at TCA that they will not be able to record from inside the courtroom during the proceedings.

Instead, Court TV will have "reporters and correspondents who rotate in and out of the courtroom" giving viewers live updates on what's going on behind closed doors making them "the only network that covers it in virtual real time."

A lawyer for Harvey Weinstein has asked that the disgraced movie mogul’s upcoming criminal trial be moved out of New York City, saying he can’t get a fair trial.

In a longshot motion filed with the New York State appellate court on Friday, attorney Arthur Aidala suggested the trial be moved to upstate Albany County or Suffolk County on Long Island. The motion cited the intense media coverage and circuslike atmosphere surrounding Weinstein’s past court appearances in Manhattan, even noting that Weinstein’s name was mentioned online on the New York Post’s gossip column Page Six more than 11,000 times.

“It is safe to say that New York City is the least likely place on earth where Mr. Weinstein could receive a fair trial, where jurors could hear evidence, deliberate, and render a verdict in an atmosphere free of intimidation from pressure to deliver a result that the politicians, the activists, the celebrities and the media demand,” Aidala wrote.
