Authorities searching Garrido's Antioch house Saturday expanded the crime scene to include the neighboring home of Damon Robinson, according to the Associated Press. Robinson told The Times on Friday that Garrido had taken care of the house before he moved in three years ago, and that Robinson found "all the locks on my home were backward. You could lock people in" but not out.

I think the "not guilty by reason of insanity" verdict should be changed to "guilty due to insanity".

Then I would have no problem with the verdict.

(A) Are you innocent or guilty?

(B) Are you sane?

... IN THAT ORDER.

There are two issues at play here: Mental illness and then not guilty by reason of insanity. The legal definition of insanity does not cover most of the myriad mental illnesses out there, and/or levels of mental illness. And for good reason. One can suffer from mental problems and still be very much in control of what he or she is doing, clearly know right from wrong and choose to do what he or she wants to do regardless of the harm their actions may cause others.
IMO, the actions of these two in going to elaborate lengths to hide these children from parole officers, neighbors, and to prevent their escape shows me that they truly knew what they were doing was wrong. garrido in his own words today states that what he did started out as something "disgusting". If it ended up being something "wonderful", as he now states, then he would not have hidden these children for all this time.
I think garrido's actions in bringing the kids to his parole officers office show his arrogance and confidence that after 18 years, he would not be caught. Bottom line, no matter what perversion this monster has, no matter what inner demons may be at play, he is and should be responsible in a legal and moral sense, for what he did and never allowed to see the light of day again for the safety of the public at large and the children he already destroyed.

You know, I keep thinking about those children's bicycles that are in the driveway of Garrido's house. I just have this horrible feeling that they are connected to abductions of other children.

I know that the Sheriff's office is probably totally overwhelmed with looking for evidence, and I am so afraid that they are going to overlook the possible significance of those bicycles.

I wanted to put a bug in someone's ear about it, so I called the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office dispatch to discuss this with them. I was informed that the FBI is handling the investigation now.

I have put in a call to the local FBI and told them of my concerns and was told that they will ensure that my concerns are passed on to the investigators working on the case.

I feel better now.

That really does not surprise me. And it's only going to get more bizarre IMHO.

Yikes, what a horrible thought.

Oh geeze--the monster wife is scared and distraught. What the hell does she think that Jaycee felt for all those years?

http://www.news10.net/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=66053&catid=2

Seriously! It's very insulting what the attorney is reporting. In the article, her attorney states:

PLACERVILLE, CA - The lawyer for accused kidnapper Nancy Garrido told
News10 exclusively Saturday that his client is scared as she sits in her cell at the El Dorado County Jail, contemplating the thought of spending the rest of her life behind bars.
"She's a bit distraught. You have to understand that until this I don't think she's even ever had a speeding ticket. She's never had a traffic ticket until this thing happened," attorney Gilbert Maines said.

Are you kidding me? Where was her fear and distress for Jaycee and her two girls who spent their entire lives impriosned, much of it likely in "shacks". I'm sickened by this. Great way to try and get sympathy for his client, right? Yeah, right. The irony of his statements, the cruelty of them under the circumstances make me furious.

ETA: "This thing [that] happened"? Oh, this "thing? You mean the arrest or do you mean that little incident wherein your distraught client participated in the abduction of an 11 year old and her imprisonment and rape over the next 18 years.

In all fairness, having lived in London, UK and read many of their publications I suggest you take what the News of The World says with a grain of salt. They are akin to what the National Inquirer is. They publish sensationalism and not all of their reports are fact. They are unscrupulous in how they get their pictures and stories.

The three people they interviewed, Mr. Rogers, Ms. White and Mr Kovisto should be ashamed, especially if they received any money for their interviews.

Mr. Rogers states he didn't have enough to go to call the police...bah hum bug! They all knew he was a convicted RSO, that plus all his other suspicious activity should have been enough to get something done. Mr. Rogers was so worried about his wave boards etc, why not just call in and remain anonymous? He says:

"They normally had a bonfire and I saw them entering the tent one by one. On a number of occasions I saw them bobbing up and down through the window and I thought, 'My God, there is something sexual going on in there."

But he doesn't call police!? He states:

"It was in daylight. I saw a woman I'd never seen before. She was running around as if she was trying to hide from something. She kept running her hands through her hair and looking around her. This was the only time I saw her."

But he doesn't call police!? This is normal behavior to him? A woman running around like that at a home of a man he knows to be a RSO and who has what he thinks are sex parties!?

And Ms. White:

Polly White, 50, who lives next door to Mr Rogers, revealed she heard the parties too.
"I used to hear children playing in some kind of pool and in the evenings I did hear men laughing and loud music playing.
"Mike told me once that he had seen men lining up out there and he had since seen it happen on several occasions.

She hears children playing, knows about the parties but she too does nothing!?

They disgust me.

Well, that probably explains where they were getting the money to sustain all the people living there. :furious:

he was on lifetime parole and this is one of the things i do not understand.
When a person is on parole and probation they basically do not have the same search and seizure rights that you and I have. No cause need be shown you have to let cops search you anytime they want.
So I don't understand why they needed a search warrant that earlier time when they wanted to investigate but could not?
Maybe lifetime parole gives you some of those rights back but that does not make sense.

Regarding his short stint in prison for a 50 year sentence, that would never never happen today. Those laws have all been changed and i think 80% is the minimum that must be served.
Until they empty the prisons for lack of funding.

Wilma Probyn, 83, said she talked Thursday to Jaycee's mother, Terry Probyn, who told her that while her daughter was doing well physically, she felt guilt over her bonding with suspect Phillip Garrido. And she told People, "I heard that [Garrido] would take the two girls to Hometown Buffet once in a while, and to the aquarium in San Francisco, but Jaycee never got out."

It seems like the cracks that all these perps are able to slip through need to be tightened up. That being said ,I sometimes wonder in doing so and createing more laws, perhaps creates more loopholes for them in the interpretaion of the laws. If that makes sense.
They need more people to staff the probation offices and apply the laws. The probation caseloads are horrific.

California does recognize common law name changes that do not have to go through court and become part of the public record.

With all of the problems Antioch has experienced in the past five years or so there's no way any agency would enter into an unwritten understanding to allow anyone sanctuary there. The crime rate is already too high- they're not going to be advocating sanctuary of yet more criminals. Antioch is not a tolerant place such as say Berkeley or San Francisco.
Sanctuary isn't avoiding criminal prosecution of suspects. It is the decision not to cooperate with the Homeland Security and the immigration branch to deport people.

I have been lurking for days, mostly because,I had nothing more to offer, but like everyone else,am absolutely HORRIFIED by this case.I do want to say that IF there were men"lined up in the back yard" and there were orgies or what ever, someone needs to let these "men" and I use the term loosely, know that they could also be in BIG TROUBLE! Offer them something in exchange for info, but let them know, that they could and probally will be found out,and need to speak up NOW!I am also haunted by the statement of JD seen wandering around, holding her head and trying to hide, maybe she was looking for someone, other children, the 4 yr olds---anyone??? I do not believe that JD's daughters were spared from sexual abuse of any kind, even though the scum says he changed after the birth of his first daughter, remember another child was born after this. This is BIG,REALLY BIG,and I suspect we will all be horrified much more than we could possibly imagine.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't some people defect from their countries and seek "Sanctuary" here in the USA again coincideing with immigration?

Absolutely!! Where do we put the money? In their defence for when they recommit their crimes.

All these management programs should have real teeth not just programs that look good in print but are near impossible to apply.

California does not have the death penalty. They overturned that years ago. Charles Manson was given the death penalty and it was then remanded to life in prison when California did away with the DP. I am just furious that this happened in CA and not in FL as we still do have the DP and just excuted a a few weeks ago.

So any hope for the DP is gone. It simply doesn't exist there.
No, we have it, it was just halted for the lethal injection procedures until they can figure out how to make it "humane". An inmate named Morales who about 3 years ago was about to die in the chamber sued to get it halted. We have had several executions since Charles Manson was sentenced...

I'm aware of what sanctuary means. And trust me - Antioch is NOT a tolerant place that would allow sanctuary for anyone. They'd be first in line to hand them over to INS, Homeland Security, FBI etc if they could.

Does anyone know if there will be any updates today? I heard LE have gone in with shovels and chainsaws

I can't begin to imagine the horrors that took place inside and outside that house. How can people be so cruel to others.
