Thanks. So what's with JM's computer? Are we talking about the same internet searches? (Apologize of not doing enough due diligence, didn't watch the testimony in full)

What I was referring to was the Quickbook CALL being made from CM's cell phone. The searches were done before the call, I believe by McStay desktop or tablet.

State of California VS Charles Ray Merritt: Part Three - Transcript of Charles Merritt Preliminary

28 Q Okay. Now, turning your attention to February 8th, what
92
1 did your analysis of the defendant's records that day reveal?
2 Well, let me ask you this, 'cause we are, we're drawing
3 near on lunchtime.
4 Between 7:36 A.M. and 1:31 P.M., is there any activity on
5 the defendant's --
6 A Between 7:36 and 1:31?
7 Q Correct.
8 A There is one, one incoming call that goes to voice mail,
9 does not generate a cell tower, though. So, there's no location
10 information.
11 Q Why would that be?
12 A It could have been off, airplane mode, out of range.
13 Q And the phone came back, was it fair to say on 1:31, what
14 was the location of the defendant's cell phone?

20 Q (By Mr. Daugherty) With the call at 1:31, were you able
21 to obtain location data from that?
22 A Yes, sir.
23 Q Where was the defendant's cell phone at that time?
24 A It was in the area of Corona in California.
25 Q Anywhere in particular, were you able to devise?
26 A It's a cell tower near Auto Center Drive and the 91
27 Freeway in Corona.
28 Q And turning your attention to February 9th, 2010 --
93
1 Actually, I do want to back up.
2 On February 8th, you said the 91 and Auto Center Drive in
3 Corona?
4 A Correct.
5 Q Were you able to opine a direction of travel of the
6 defendant after that 1:31 call?
7 A Yes, sir. He hits the tower that I previously mentioned
8 at 1:31, followed by a tower at 1:41 that's further north up on
9 the 15 Freeway.
10 And then at 1:42 he hits a cell tower adjacent to the 15
11 Freeway in Limonite -- near the Limonite exit in Mira Loma,
12 which would indicate a northbound travel, presumably on the 15.

Rancho Cucamonga to San Ysidro is 2 hours, 31 minutes on I-15
San Ysidro to Corona is 2 hours, 16 minutes on I-15. According to the cell towers, he was heading north.
4 hours, 45 minutes to drive from RC to SY then drive back (or take transportation) (+/- a few minutes, doing this in my head) and his cell was inactive on the 8th of February, according to his calls, between 7:36 am and 1:31 pm.

You can Google San Ysidro to "Anytown" in California and there's 3 or more public transports, ie., bus, train, etc.
I think he dumped the Trooper and was headed to the casino............

Ah, I was talking about the latter. Do they know for sure who did the Internet search on JM's computer? Any proof it's by CM?

I didn't see any searches from his cell phone? the search history that was shown, was from the McStay emachine tower computer. Device 4. Here is a screenshot from the testimony, it shows the device at the top.

yes, sorry, I wasn't clear in my post. I was replying to the question;'how do we know it was CM doing the QB searches etc'

I meant to say that he used his cell to CALL the QB people. But right before that he searched for their website and phone number, using a McStay device.

hmmm I'm not sure the times match up. I have the times written down as 2:06 - 2:07am on the 8th. I'm rewatching right now, but am also trying to make supper lol

I am not convinced these were actual "type it into google" type searches. They seem to quick. Maline seemed to be implying that they could have been accessed from a drop down of recent searches, where you click instead of typing them in. Of course we have to wait until next week to hear more about that. But before he even asked about that I noted the times and they are so close together.

Another thing that I just heard again and annoys me... they only did forensics up to Feb 16th. When did Mike take the computer?

Yes, precisely. Investigators concluded the search was done because there is a T-Mobile at the same address. However, Joseph placed a phone call to the dentist office 2 weeks prior. The office was a client who purchased a fountain a year earlier.

Here is a wall fountain in their lobby.

Haaa...good thing I am not on the jury then. I watched the entire testimony and I am still confused.

The state attorney jumped around so much. Maybe they are trying to confuse the defense team for the cross?

EXACTLY! The killer was checking the browsing history from the drop menu, thus the Dinosaur train. He was hoping to find the direct link to the Quickbooks login with the password already put in.

Considering what is known about Merritt's activity, and inactivity, in lieu the family not seen or heard of since the 4th when Merritt started backdating checks...... There's still more evidence to be presented.

Right!!!! This is why I am really not a fan of Dougherty. He is usually all over the place. Then I read comments saying Maline is asking "dumb" questions or not getting his words right... well, actually, Maline probably cleared up some of the confusion with the terms and how things were or can be done, which should have been done in direct. And I don't care for Maline either LOL I doubt everyone on the jury is computer savvy, or understands all the computer terms, or understands history, cache, drop down's with recent history, how searches can be done, etc. This stuff needs to be explained, whether they sound like "dumb" questions or not IMO

Just started watching today's testimony. Someone visited sketchup.com at 5:01:31 pm on 2/4 via the E-Machine T2040 Tower. Who, I wonder? Most likely Joey? But then if he were home at that time, why would Summer have been calling him?

There is also a visit to that site at 4:56pm. It was while Daugherty was flipping pages, I had to slow it right down to be able to grab the screenshot lol
