This afternoon we heard from Cheryl Manzer (formerly Anderson) one of the last people to see #KristinSmart alive. She said Flores intercepted her, Smart, and another student on a walk home from the Crandall Way party.

Flores tried to kiss her (Manzer), she said no. “I asked him if he was going to get Kristin to her room and he said yes,” she said. Left the two at Perimeter Road and Grand Ave. She resumes testimony in a few.

As I said before. I always called Paul the “ silent and creepy type “. Now I see I’m not the only one who felt that way. There were so many warning signs with him. Also, now after reading the documents I realize he was way worse then we thought. A reporter who has been on the case for years told me it’s even worse then he thought.

The latest witness to take the stand was Cheryl (Anderson) Manzer who was one of people to walk her home from the party. She says Paul Flores joined them as they walked back to dorms and insisted Manzer could go ahead. When they got to grand/perimeter rd, Manzer turned right 1/2

2/2 to walk back to her Sierra Madre dorm she asked Paul to take Kristin back to her dorm room. She says Paul said he would. That was the last she saw that night. Says she knew Paul before from other parties but didn’t know Kristin or see her much at party

Two other witnesses who were at the party have testified. Matthew Toomey who saw Kristin kiss two men that night. Toomey says Paul also came up to him and asked if Kristin was dating his friend Ross (one of the guys Kristin reportedly kissed)

Toomey also saw Kristin around midnight laying on a grass yard just outside the party looking very intoxicated. Toomey says he went over to help and walk her home but Kristin said to leave her alone

Det. Clint Cole of the @SLOSheriff's Office (lead detective of the Kristin Smart case) took the stand today to talk about a booking photo, however, the prosecution has not yet admitted it to evidence. Court has adjourned for the day so I'm sure it'll pick up with him tomorrow AM.

*Preliminary Hearing for both (Day 3) (@ 9am PT) - CA - Kristin Denise Smart (19) (missing May 25, 1996 while walking back to her dorm from a off campus frat party at Cal Poly, reported missing on May 26, 1996, San Luis Obispo, still missing) – *Paul Ruben Flores (19 @ time of crime/44) arrested & charged (4/13/21) & arraigned (4/15/21) with 1st degree murder. Plead not guilty. No bond.
*Ruben Ricardo Flores (55 @ time of crime/80) arrested & charged (4/13/21) & arraigned (4/15/21) with accessory to murder after the fact. Plead not guilty. $250K bond. Bond was lower to $50K. Has posted bond (4/22/21), out of jail.

8/3/21 Tuesday, Day 2 of Preliminary hearing: Deputy District Attorney Chris Peuvrelle said at least two witnesses summoned for the hearing will not be taking the stand due to possible COVID-19 exposure & Paul's attorney Robert Sanger suggested the court look at possible changes in an effort to keep everyone safe. Judge Craig van Rooyen says the hearing will continue in person, but added that everyone in the courtroom will need to wear face coverings unless asking questions.
State witnesses: Steven Fleming, former dorm neighbor of Kristin's & had classes together, studied together & went to some of the same parties; (he is a veteran & retired Berkeley Police officer). Cheryl Manzer (formerly Anderson) one of the last people to see Kristin alive. Matthew Toomey was at party. Det. Clint Cole of the SLO Sheriff's Office (lead detective of the Kristin Smart case). Preliminary hearing continues on 8/4/21. No court on Fridays.

Four witnesses took the stand Tuesday in the preliminary hearing for Paul and Ruben Flores. Three of them were Cal Poly students who attended the same party where both Paul and Kristin Smart were seen just hours before Kristin's disappearance.

Day 2 of the Flores preliminary hearing had four more witnesses take the stand, including a witness who walked to campus with #KristinSmart and Paul Flores from a party and was one of the last people known to see her alive.

She added that Paul Flores joined them on the walk back to the dorm, and helped Kristin walk. By the time they got to the dorms, it was just her, Kristin and Paul. Once they reached the corner of Perimeter and Grand, she said they had to part ways to go to their separate dorms.

Before leaving Paul and Kristin, who lived in the red brick dorms next to each other, Manzer asked Paul if he’d get Kristin back to her dorm room. He said he would.

Sanger said the photo lacked foundation because the chain of custody was disrupted. Judge sustained the objection until former Cal Poly Police investigator confirmed Paul looked the same in the booking photo as he did during the first police interview with him that same day
