That's Leila's 12-year-old brother. I am going to assume that it's just marker and not an actual permanent tattoo.

Are you sure, I think it might be an older brother. Lelia had siblings in middle and high school.

In 2011, there were 37 girls between the ages of 5-8 who were murdered.

13 victims (boys and girls) between the ages of 5-8 were stabbed to death:

Here's a chart about the relationship between the killer and victim:

Thank you for the links. I'm notoriously lazy about posting them. They back up exactly what I said. It's not normal, it's actually very very rare. An anomaly.

Well, under the picture, it's labeled as being J**** Fowler, who is the 12-year-old brother. An article said that JF was her oldest brother, and that she has sibling(s) in the HS, so I took that to mean that she has a sister in the HS. Didn't JF speak at the candle lighting?

Hmmmm anyone have a breakdown of the male siblings by age? Is there an obituary?

Good information. So sad to see the numbers so high for children 4 and under. I would imagine most of these were the parents or caregivers. So many little angels taken from us.

No, it's her 17 year old brother. He spoke at the vigil. I watched it. It's her oldest brother J.

He introduced himself, gave his name, his age, and said he was Leila's oldest brother.

I don't think J is 12. He appears much older and has a girlfriend that is also an adult.

No, it's her 17 year old brother. He spoke at the vigil. I watched it. It's her oldest brother J*****.

He introduced himself, gave his name, his age, and said he was Leila's oldest brother.

Wait...I thought that J***** was the one who found her? The 12-year-old?

"I am not going to say goodbye to my sister, only see you later. Up in heaven, make it good for my sister."

Those were the words of 12-year-old J***** Fowler at the Valley Springs vigil for his 8-year-old sister, Leila Fowler, who was was stabbed to death inside her home on Saturday. Her killer is still on the loose.

Did the media mix it up?

J is 17. He's the one you're saying is the 12 year old. J was the only child who spoke at the vigil, which I watched. The whole thing. He introduced himself, gave his name J, said he was 17, and Leila's oldest brother.

Okay, well then it looks like it's the media who started the whole "12-year-old JF" thing.

I really hate this. I don't know how I will rest tonight worrying about this case.

The family appears at the vigil together on the podium at the 2:18 mark on the video of the vigil found here. http://www.ktvu.com/videos/news/calaveras-county-emotional-vigil-for-slain-little/vzm9y/

I will not post the pic directly in my post because I have no wish to fuel anything that is not allowed.

I do not believe the young man who spoke is the 12 year old brother. I agree with TheCheese. That is another sibling.

I think one thing is for sure. LE does not seem to be too media savvy, as I am sure they don't deal with this kind of thing very often and with this kind of media attention. But they are releasing information that is incomplete and perhaps even misleading at times. When they release little tid bits and refuse to elaborate, it allows for people to play "fill-in-the-blank." Certainly not knocking them for doing their jobs-it is apparent they are working very hard on the case and are bringing in lots of help. But they could probably use a good media advisor to help deal with the media.

I feel so awful for her siblings. The picture of them holding the candles in that picture is heartbreaking. How can they possibly understand this tragic murder. They go play their little league game and come home to a grisly crime scene in their home? And learn that their 8 yr old sweetheart was stabbed to death? It is devastating. And their parents will be Zombies for awhile.

If you posted the name of a minor please go edit your post. And rememebrr we do NOT sleuth the family of a victim.

I only commented on the tattoo because I feel so sad for Leilas siblings.

I do too. But you know what? I see a lot of pain in that photo. But I also see a lot of strength. They are standing united for Leila. They are there for each other and will support one another through this horrible ordeal. They seem like a wonderful family that this should have never happend to.

(reposted family pic from above)

J has his arm around another boy, who looks around 12.
There is a site with alot of family pics; or if you watched the vigil.
The boy to the right of him reminds me of my Autistic nephew.
His facial expressions completely remind me of my nephew, i feel so bad for that family =(

Maybe someone who knew a previous renter came back looking for them, but instead encountered Leila and her brother.

That's a possibility. A few weeks after I'd lived in my house, a furious man came to the door, looking for the previous owner, a man he'd done business with to his misfortune. Thankfully, I identified myself as the new owner to his satisfaction.
