Getreu will appear in Santa Clara County Superior Court for a trial-setting conference for Perlov's murder on Jan. 19.

John Getreu receives life sentence for 1974 murder

There's one glimmer of hope that Getreu might someday own up to his crimes, Stauffer noted. On page four of the probation report, Getreu said he wants to plead guilty to the murder of Perlov, Stauffer said. If he does so, perhaps then the families can begin to feel some closure to Getreu's crimes, he added.

@faithx - can't seem to access the Santa Clara County court site - can you? Just checking to see if he has another court date set.

Also, you wouldn't happen to know Getreu's birth date? If it's on the court site, maybe?

TIA!

EXCLUSIVE: Sonoma Co. investigators explain how they used DNA to tie convicted rapist to 1996 murder

"During this interview, Kahng also revealed that she and investigators have identified an additional victim of the infamous Stanford Murderer, John Getreu. Getreu was convicted last year at age 77 of killing Janet Ann Taylor in 1974. Taylor was the daughter of Stanford's then football coach, Chuck Taylor. Kahng says Getreu is behind the death of Theresa Smith of Ohio, who was killed at age 15. Getreu lived two blocks from her house. Charges have not been filed in that investigation."

Newspaper article about the 1980 murder of Theresa Smith:

"Theresa Smith, 15, 149 Bolton Ave., was found April 16 on Ohio 16, east of Frazeysburg. Her body was at the bottom of a bank, and she had been dead for approximatley 24 to 36 hours. Her body was discovered at 7:30 p.m. by a boy riding by the area on his bicycle. She was wearing a blue blouse and socks. It was not possible to determine if Ms. Smith had been sexually abused.

Sgt. Ben Wells of the Newark Police Department said Ms. Smith died of strangulations by hands. The investigation has taken Wells into Muskingum County. He has interviewed many of Ms. Smiths classmates and said all leads are being followed."

Any chance this guy will just take a plea??
This was said at the sentencing hearing in November: "There's one glimmer of hope that Getreu might someday own up to his crimes, Stauffer noted. On page four of the probation report, Getreu said he wants to plead guilty to the murder of Perlov, Stauffer said. If he does so, perhaps then the families can begin to feel some closure to Getreu's crimes, he added."

Although Leslie's sister has previously said that she wants a trial for her sister's case, no deals.

He can't make much of a deal in this case - he is already going to serve LWOP - it's not like the DA is going for the death penalty.

Exactly. I doubt that he's going to plead guilty in Leslie's case though, at least not soon. Despite the quote from November about him wanting to, an appeal on the conviction/sentence in Janet's case was filed on December 13th. Although maybe life sentences are automatically appealed in California regardless of the defendant's wishes? I don't know.

Just tried to find that out - can't find anything that says he gets an automatic appeal in California for LWOP. Death sentence - yes one automatic appeal.

From your link above on his appeal - looks like he has a hearing coming up in May for it.

Well I suspect that given he has LWOP, if he is amenable to a deal, the prosecutors will be under pressure to comply, vs. a very expensive and time-consuming trial, despite the family’s preference for one. And if he has a public defender (which I haven’t looked up in the docket), they will also likely be under pressure to go for a deal given he is already spending his life in prison.
