*Trial Setting Hearing (Leslie’s case) (@ 1:35pm PT) - CA – Leslie Marie Perlov (21) (last seen Feb. 13, 1973, Palo Alto; found Feb. 16, 1973) - *John Arthur Getreu (28 @ time of crime/74/now 77) arrested (11/20/18), charged (11/21/18) & arraigned (11/26/18) & re-arraigned (2/18/20) with 1st degree murder during the commission of attempted rape. Plead not guilty. Held without bail. Incarcerated in Wasco State prison.
DNA submitted to Parabon Nanolabs-match.
Trial set to begin in 2022 (no date yet).

OH – Theresa Smith (15) - 2/23/22: Investigative journalist Grace Kahng revealed that she & investigators have identified an additional victim of the infamous Stanford Murderer, John Getreu. Kahng says Getreu is behind the death of Theresa Smith of Ohio, who was killed at age 15. Getreu lived two blocks from her house. Charges have not been filed in that investigation. Theresa Smith, 15, was found April 16, 1980 on Ohio 16, east of Frazeysburg. Her body was at the bottom of a bank & she had been dead for approximately 24 to 36 hours. Her body was discovered at 7:30pm by a boy riding by the area on his bicycle. She was wearing a blue blouse & socks. It was not possible to determine if Ms. Smith had been sexually abused.

9/14/21 Tuesday, Trial Day 21: Prosecutor Josh Stauffer & Defense Attorney John Halley gave closing arguments. Jury deliberations started. Jury deliberated for 60 minutes to find Getreu guilty of first-degree murder & a special allegation of infliction of great bodily injury. Sentencing hearing on 11/5/21. 11/5/21 Update: Sentenced to life in prison.
12/13/21: Appeal filed. 3/2/22 Update: Description: Court reporter extension requested. Court reporter extension-granted. Order to show cause. Appeals hearing on 5/16/22. Order to show cause-court reporter or attorney.

Unfortunately, nothing has been updated regarding Janet's case on the court site. I don't think the trial for Leslie's case starts on 7/13, as that date is only listed as a hearing for trial setting.

Some additional information about John Arthur Getreau:

The family sold their home in a subdivision in Newark, OH in July 1948.

He was sentenced to the maximum of 10 years in prison for the rape and murder of 16-year-old Margaret Williams while his father was stationed in Bad Kreuznach. According to reports, Williams attended at dance at an American youth club the night of her murder. Getreau admitted he met Williams on a street after she left the club and went for a walk. Her body was found on a baseball diamond behind the club. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled.

After 1963, there are no further mentions of Getreau in any newspapers. He seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. It would be helpful if police released a timeline of where Getreau lived and when to make it easier to link him to other potential crimes, as I don't believe he limited himself to killing three women.

I have to agree with you @citizen_sleuth !

I did add Theresa Smith at the end - that was a 1980 murder in Ohio. But no charges have been filed in that case. Must a ton more in Ohio & probably California.
