A Canadian named John Isadore Zacher was reported missing by his wife on May 11, 1993. Unfortunately, the Canada's Missing website doesn't include a photo (only an age progression sketch). His vital statistics seem to line up roughly with this UID. It peaked my interest that Canada's Missing says this about him --

I'll try to locate a photo him when I am more awake.

John Zacher was just located, ALIVE and living under an alias , after missing for 2 decades!

It is the COD that intrigues me. Cyanide poisoning? This is a tough way to go...in my mind it is reserved for spies and serial killers who are trying to avoid their fate...you know, the net is closing in type stuff.

This is intriguing to me as well. How does one acquire cyanide? Is it something anyone could find?

Mary Anderson committed suicide by cyanide a couple of years later. Her thread http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...-Anderson-quot-Oct-96&highlight=Mary+Anderson has a lot of information about cyanide and its sources. You'll kind of have to scroll through looking for them, but there's a lot of great research.

Who knows if the two cases are connected; however the cyanide is used for the working of the gold and the silver and finds application in many metals; small amounts are present in the kernels of the apricots and almonds; they have found some thing in the stomach of this guy? Possible it has been poisoned ingesting the kernels of these fruits?

I didn't mean to suggest the two cases are connected, it was just a pointer to lots of information about cyanide and cyanide poisoning.

For some time, I have thought Jimmy Douglas Smith looked like the man found at the hotel, yet I had thought that his fingerprints would probably be in AFIS, so I didn't bring it up. Recently, I noticed that NamUs did not have fingerprint information for Ricky Olson (an escapee from Florida) and I was advised, with regard to a different UID, that the older prison records of escapees from a particular western state were not as extensive as I had assumed that they would be.

Jimmy Smith is described as having brown hair and blue eyes, being 5'11" tall, and weighing 175 lbs. He escaped from an Oklahoma prison (Jess Dunn Correctional Center) where he was residing due to armed robbery charges on August 24, 1988. In October 1993, he would have been 42 years old.

This might be sort of a strange question but does anyone know [or even strongly suspect] if the man from the hotel had been moved prior to the postmortem photo or that was exactly how he was found?

Today marks 22 years since he was found. I hope he is identified soon.

Committing suicide in a rented room some distance from home, while hiding your identity, is traditionally the way to avoid bringing shame to your family. Its frequency has decreased along with the social stigma of suicide, but neither has completely ceased. That's why we have cases like this Doe, Mary Anderson, Lyle Stevik, Bernalillo County Jane Doe, etc.

This seems a particularly odd and painful death for a relatively young man to choose, imo.
It reminds me of an mysterious case of an UID man in Manchester, who may have consumed arsenic.

Cyanide, if you can get a hold of it, is for when you want it quick (for the most part) and fool-proof. It's much more reliable than pills. Quite a few famous writers and scientists have used it. It was also the suicide method of a number of photographers, as they had access to it for the film developing process, back in the day.

This is similar to Jane Doe "Mary Anderson" in WA hotel room I think Seattle.

On Thursday, October 21, 1993, a man checked into the Hyatt Hotel in Los Angeles, California. He checked in around 7:30 that night, and gave the following
Original

He gave the name "Paul Deering" and listed his address as 790 East Ute. 84115, Salt Lake City, Utah. He paid $200 dollars in cash for a two night stay. When he failed to check out on Saturday, the 23, hotel staff entered his room. What they found in the room was "Paul" slumped in his bed, unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and it appeared as if Paul had taken his own life, as he had died of cyanide poisoning. When they located his address, they discovered an individual in the residence. 26 years on, his identity remains unknown.

Looking at his signature, it doesn't look like he started out writing Paul Deering. I wonder if he started signing his real name out of habit. To my eyes, it looks like it starts with a D and the last name maybe starts with a W. The last name also looks like it was written over. The name "Deering" doesn't have any tall letters, but the last name he signed looks like it might have two. Does anyone else see any clues in his signature? Am I reading too far into this?

I agree. Looks like his last name starts with a W and has an "L" or F" possibly

Also seeing what appears to be a last name that started with a "W" maybe Waller Wahler Walker or something along those lines.
