I believe his last name is W-ll-ing. If you notice there two distinct dots above last name to the right which i believe he did unconsciously both times when he wrote his real last name and then realized and went back to fix it and then wrote "Deering" over it. Which is why theres two dots to the right above it. If that makes sense....

Upon looking more I'm not sure his first name starts with a "D" but I do think there are two "L"s in his first name as well because it appears to be two equal tall loops in his real name. JMO though

Also, that address must be significant..

According to wiki.org the “real” Paul Deering lived there.

The man checked into the Hyatt Hotel in Los Angeles, California, on Thursday, October 21, 1993, at around 7:30 PM. He gave the name "Paul Deering'' and listed his address as 790 East Ute./ Salt Lake City, Utah, 84115. He paid $200 dollars for a two night stay. When he failed to checkout on Saturday, October 23, hotel staff entered his room. What they found was "Paul" slumped in his bed. He was pronounced dead at the scene and it appeared he had taken his own life by using cyanide. When police tracked down the address he provided, they found the real "Paul Deering'' living in the residence, alive and well.

thank you. i didn't read the wiki. apologies

So.. if thats the case.. he had to have known Paul Deering either as an acquaintance (he knew his full name and address where he lives) or more so... this is so odd.

He could have been associated with property and was aware someone was living in the residence.

Or he used stolen/lost ID. Or more seriously actually stole Mr Deering’s identity and had been living his life as him (more likely if the UID has some criminal connections or other serious reason to go to such trouble).

I think I have a good idea what happened. "Paul Deering" wanted to commit suicide and decided to do it away from his family. He was somehow associated with property or knew about the residence he provided (I think it's more likely he was associated with property). He knew that Paul Deering was living in the address and decided to use this information to check into the Hyatt Hotel. While checking in, he wrote his real name down, realized what he had done, and wrote Paul Deering over his real name. I also think he parked a BMW at the hotel, and it possibly was impounded shortly after. I think someone should contact law enforcement and ask if they can give more details about the case.

Okay, I had to go back and look at my post. It was in 2009 so I think I was referring to an article in post #5 and Sean Durkin. I haven’t kept up with this so I am not sure who Paul is. I may come back and read the rest of the thread to now if I get time. Exhausted and hitting the hay now though.

Assuming/speculating that the cyanide was purchased on the dark web, if true- wondering if the UID bought a "suicide kit" and if the same assumed name PD, was used? speculation, imo.rbbm.
Case study of a different male.
O41: Dark Web shopping: A case report of a cyanide suicide - ScienceDirect
''We report an uncommon case of a young white man found dead in a hotel room after cyanide poisoning in a context of suicide. Cyanide was apparently ordered on the Deep Web. The purpose of this case is to compare it with a review of literature about cyanide poisoning (clinical facts and epidemiology), toxic deaths in hotel and scientific observations about black-market and illegally-ordered products on the Dark Web''.

''Cyanide intoxication can be intentional (suicide or homicide) or accidental (occupational accident, consumption of cyanogenic plants or food), but it is a rare kind of poisoning, reported previously in few cases. Lethal suicide poisoning with cyanide is even more unusual, especially when the drug is shopped and shipped from Internet''.

''In this case report, two arguments are present to suspect that the young man went to those particular websites: first, the high possibility to perform anonymous shopping of cyanide on the Dark Web, and second, the prudence of the sellers (multiple plastic bags, industrial packaging with no drug trace in bags and no reference on the bags). Moreover, the profile of customers of those websites has been previously shown to correspond to males, young (between 20 and 40 yrs), white, heterosexual, employees or students with a preference for MDMA, LSD and cannabis; the present case is in agreement with this aforementioned profile.''

Found this interesting.. fwiw, rbbm.
DEATHS OF TWO IN HOTEL ROOM AT CASINO LINKED TO CYANIDE
1986
''Two Atlantic Community College students whose bodies were found in an Atlantic City casino hotel room in May died of acute cyanide poisoning, and investigators are treating the deaths as homicides, the Atlantic County Prosecutor announced yesterday.''

The prosecutor, Jeffrey Blitz, said the two students may have ingested the cyanide, a white powdery substance, thinking that it was cocaine''.

''Cyanide is a very, very toxic poison,'' he said. ''Death occurs within minutes.''

The prosecutor said authorities had ruled out the possibility of a double suicide or a homicide and suicide because of a number of circumstances, including the disappearance of the youths' wallets and the lack of a suicide note.''
