Details of Disappearance

Wyant was last seen in 1978 in California, shortly after her fourteenth birthday. She was living in a group home there at the time. She was in a car accident, walked out of a hospital afterwards, and has never been heard from again. Very few details are available in her case. n August 2003, the skull of a person between mid-teens and early twenties was found in Cowlitz County, Washington. Wyant had previously lived in a Clark County, Washington foster home and investigators theorized she returned to that area after her disappearance, so her DNA was compared against the skull. It did not match, nor did the DNA of other Washington women match; the skull remains unidentified.

While talking to Jim Tattersall (a Detective from Jackson County OR) on a separate matter, I asked him whether Edward Nye and Anne Ellinwood had been compared to the Mendocino John and Jane Doe. He said that they had looked at Nye and Ellinwood and ruled them out.

There was a cold case opened in New Mexico for Mary Lou Sena and Billy Sena. They are smaller than the height they have but seeing as they believe that the unidentified are closely related and these two are cousins who went missing together. Just a long shot.

Sorry It says these children went missing in Sept. of 1979 and the remains were found in July of 1979. Just wondering if anyone besides the family saw them before they were reported missing. The family for Mary Lou Sena and Billy Sena can not be located.

Just before we left Northern California, a brother and sister disappeared while hiking. This had to be 1978/79, and I was young, so I don't remember too many details. I remember the boy had diabetes and needed insulin, and they had backpacks, and they were teenagers. I've never found any story about the original disappearance or if they were ever found? This case made me think about them.

It has been updated on the DOE network that these two were not maternally related.

I have long been worried about the small kids that are abducted for sexual reasons and held hostage for years (Jaycee). What if the perp. gets tired of these older more mature children who are starting to fight for themselves, and risk being caught. Wouldnt it make sense that the perp. might kill the older kids and abduct newer, younger ones?

This means, that I think this boy and girl were abducted seperately by the same perp.

I found several boys missing in The Charley project that would have matched this age years after their abduction.

Perhaps they escaped and died from exposure. Maybe they knew where they came from and were trying to get back.

If they were held captive and developed a tight bond, it would explain why they were together.

I think the cases should be treated seperately. Go back and find all the girls that would have been abducted from toddler to 16 and then do the same with the boys. Now that we know they are not related, they could have met on the streets.

I dont understand the reference that "authorities think they may be a young couple from the midwest who ran away." Well, what couple? Why isnt their family looking for them? I have run search after search for a teenage couple missing from the midwest, or anywhere in the 70's and I cannot find anything.

Of course in that era it was shameful to be a teenager in love/lust and many families disowned their kids for running away.

I have found some boy possible matches, but havent looked at girls. I will post what I found when I get them.

About the girl's estimated age: there are growth plates in the long bones that solidify as a person reaches adult age. So if long bones are present, they can get a fairly accurate age estimate based on the growth plate characteristics. There is still some margin for error, of course, but she's unlikely to be a small woman.

Anna Waters can be ruled out. Her dna is in codis and her dna has been run against all UIDs with no match.

Does anyone else see a resemblance between Derran Conway Rogers missing 2/27/1973 from Modesto CA and the John Doe found in 1979 in Mendocino County CA, Case File 111UMCA?

I've often thought they look similar but some of the resemblance may be due to the hairdo in the reconstruction. Not sure how much of it is just the artist's conception since the remains were skeletal. They do know the color of his hair so there must have been some left to observe. But even if the recon hairstyle is accurate the MP's hairstyle might have changed several times if he was somewhere for 5 years after going missing in 1973 and dying in 1978 (estimated). The five years that have gone in between do not IMO explain why the MP is taller than the UID (6'0" vs. 5'5") so one or both of the height estimates would have to be quite a bit off for this match to work. But looking at the portraits there is a lot of resemblance.

I've several times come across Mary Frances Gregory, who, although her age is off, as well as her height, bears similar facial features. I have a hard time eliminating height/age, especially considering she may have grown, or perhaps she was physically a late bloomer. Apart from that she was heading from Canada to Palo Alto California in 1978, with an unknown male aquaintance.

As a general rule, the younger a person is, the more accurately a forensic anthropoligist can estimate their skeletal age

Age estimates are fairly accurate within about a 2-3 year range for persons in their early teens. It's plausible that they would mistake a 19-year old for a 24-year old, but very unlikely that they would mistake a 19-year old for a 14-year old.

I know that the dates are way off, but I couldn't help but noticing that the unidentified boy looks like Mark Wendell Wilson who was 13 when he disappeared.
