August is nearly upon us and the trial in this case is due to start in this month. Here is an interesting report about the three Sacramento cases, The Golden State Killer, The NorCal Rapist and the man recently held for another two northern California rape cases:

Not too sure the trial is this month. I know there is a pretrial hearing on 8/16. Do you have a trial date for August @jaejae ?? TIA!
@Niner I just looked up the case. There is no trial date on the docket. The next hearing is a Preliminary Hearing on August 16, 2019 at 8:30 am in Department 9. Looks like this case has a long way to go before trial if they are still at the Preliminary Hearing stage.

*Preliminary Hearing (@ 8:30am PT) – CA – “NorCal Rapist” *Roy Charles Waller (58/31 @ time of first crime) arrested (9/20/18), charged & arraigned (9/24/18) on 12 counts of forcible sexual assault with enhancements (use of gun). Charges for the 10/13/06 assault on 2 women in North Natomas (Sacramento County). The new charges (1/7/19) include 9 counts encompassing a brutal attack against a Martinez woman in 1996. Total 45 counts filed. Plead not guilty to all counts. Held without bond.
Prosecutors allege Waller raped the woman four separate times during the attack in which he dressed in a skeleton mask to pretend to be a trick-or-treater. Waller is also charged with digitally penetrating the woman, 1 count of oral copulation & kidnapping her with the intent of robbery. The charges include enhancements, including the use of a firearm & binding the victim. (see below). Sacramento County Sup. Crt 18FE018342(02)
DNA entered into “genetic genealogy” GEDMatch. DNA from straw matched the rape of 2 women in North Natomas. 15 year spree since 1991 to 2006. Starting in Rohnert Park 1991, then to Sonoma, Davis (1997), Chico (July 1997, 21 yr old w/blood evidence), Woodland (1997), Martinez (Oct. 1996 Contra Costa DA filed charges under “John Doe” can be charged now), Vallejo & Sacramento. Six counties involved: Sonoma, Solano, Contra Costa, Yolo, Butte & Sacramento. All will probably consolidated & tried in Sacramento County. Faces life term in prison if convicted.

"NorCal Rapist suspect Roy Charles Waller, who was scheduled to face a preliminary hearing next month over allegations that he assaulted nine women over a 15-year crime spree, has been postponed again.
Waller, 59, had been expected to face a preliminary hearing Oct. 2 in Sacramento Superior Court on 45 felony counts linked to the crime spree, which terrorized women from 1991 through 2006 in six Northern California counties: Sacramento, Butte, Contra Costa, Solano, Sonoma and Yolo.
But that hearing has been scrapped so that attorneys in the case can litigate over whether prosecutors have provided enough DNA evidence to the defense yet. That hearing is now set for Oct. 2.

Lawyers for accused serial rapist Roy Waller argued Wednesday in Sacramento Superior Court that they have received very little of the DNA evidence that led to the arrest of Waller last year, and that they have a right to know exactly how prosecutors pieced together the clues that led them to Waller....
The judge put off a decision Wednesday, choosing to hold a closed hearing with prosecutors to go over the evidence the defense is seeking. Earl scheduled another hearing over the matter for Friday afternoon...."

Sacramento prosecutors added a new rape charge against the NorCal Rapist suspect Friday, bringing the total count of charges against him to 46, as a judge delayed a decision over whether defense lawyers should be able to obtain details of the secret DNA tracking process that led to his arrest a year ago.
The new charge stems from a 1997 attack on a Chico woman, a victim whose case already had been charged against Roy Charles Waller, who could face up to life in prison for a series of assaults on nine women from 1991 through 2006.
Much of Friday’s hearing before Sacramento Superior Court Judge Laurie Earl focused on a request from the defense that they be given access to details of the process investigators used to lead them to Waller.

Defense DNA counsel Erica Graves argued that Waller’s team needs to know how any genealogical sites used in the hunt handle their data, and that they need to know whose DNA was found in a site that was used to find Waller.

Prosecutors sharply objected to providing the information, saying the defense is entitled to the evidence that they used to arrest Waller: DNA they obtained from a soda straw while he was under surveillance, and DNA from a swab they took after his arrest that was matched to DNA left behind at crime scenes.

Charges for the 10/13/06 assault on 2 women in North Natomas (Sacramento County). The new charges (1/7/19) include 9 counts encompassing a brutal attack against a Martinez woman in 1996. Total 46 counts filed. Plead not guilty to all counts. Held without bond.
Prosecutors allege Waller raped the woman four separate times during the attack in which he dressed in a skeleton mask to pretend to be a trick-or-treater. Waller is also charged with digitally penetrating the woman, 1 count of oral copulation & kidnapping her with the intent of robbery. DNA entered into “genetic genealogy” GEDMatch. DNA from straw matched the rape of 2 women in North Natomas. 15 year spree since 1991 to 2006. Starting in Rohnert Park 1991, then to Sonoma, Davis (1997), Chico (July 1997, 21 yr old w/blood evidence), Woodland (1997), Martinez (Oct. 1996 Contra Costa DA filed charges under “John Doe” can be charged now), Vallejo & Sacramento. Six counties involved: Sonoma, Solano, Contra Costa, Yolo, Butte & Sacramento. All will probably consolidated & tried in Sacramento County. Faces life term in prison if convicted.

3/8/19 Update: pleaded not guilty to the new charges at the late morning hearing. He now faces 45 counts tied to nine victims in six Northern California counties for a string of attacks that stretched from 1991 to 2006. Next Pretrial hearing on 5/31 & 6/26.
5/31/19 Update: Judge gives defense more time to study DNA & other evidence. The pretrial hearing on 6/26 is postponed to 8/16.

10/2/19 Update: Lawyers for accused serial rapist Roy Waller argued Wednesday in Sacramento Superior Court that they have received very little of the DNA evidence that led to the arrest of Waller last year, and that they have a right to know exactly how prosecutors pieced together the clues that led them to Waller. The judge put off a decision Wednesday, choosing to hold a closed hearing with prosecutors to go over the evidence the defense is seeking. Earl scheduled another hearing over the matter for Friday afternoon, 10/4.
10/4/19 Update: Prosecutors added a new rape charge stems from a 1997 attack on a Chico woman, a victim whose case already had been charged against Roy Charles Waller, who could face up to life in prison for a series of assaults on nine women from 1991 through 2006. Hearing was focused on a request from the defense that they be given access to details of the process investigators used to lead them to Waller. Next pretrial hearing on 10/22.

Doe, for purpose of sexual arousal, gratification, & abuse by a foreign object, instruct/device & accomplished by force, violence, duress, menace & fear of immediate & unlawful bodily injury on the victim with a deadly weapon, 3 counts (Count 7, 9, 10) of unlawfully have & accomplish an act of sexual intercourse with a person. S. Doe (October 31, 1996 & November 1, 1996) Contra Costa County: (Count 11) kidnapped & carry away S. Doe, to commit robbery with firearm in the commission of a burglary, 4 counts (Count 12, 16, 18 & 19) of purpose of sexual arousal, gratification, & abuse by a foreign object, accomplished by force, violence, duress, menace & fear of immediate & unlawful bodily injury on the victim with a deadly weapon, 4 counts (Count 13, 14, 15 & 17) of unlawfully have & accomplished an act of sexual intercourse with a person, S. Doe, against said person's will, by means of force, violence, duress, menace & fear of immediate & unlawful bodily injury on said person with a deadly weapon.

Doe (January 24-25, 1997) Yolo County: (Count 20) rape, kidnap (section209 [a][2], commission of burglary, more than one, tying/binding victim, rape, Kidnap - 667.6 (d) (2), Kidnap- 667.6 (d) (4), Burglary- 667.61 (d) (2), Burglary- 667.61 (c) (2), More than one victim- 667.61 (c) (5), Tying/binding- 667.61 (c) (6). (Count 21) a different penal code for a Burglary - 667.61 (e) (1). (Count 22) foreign object penetration. (Count 23) kidnap to commit robbery.
K. Doe (January 24-25, 1997) Yolo County: (Count 24) kidnap, carry away, robbery.
R. Doe (July 18, 1997) Chico, Butte County: 1 count (Count 25) of unlawfully seize, confine, inveigle, entice, decoy, abduct, conceal, kidnap & carry away R. Doe with the intent to hold & detain & who did hold & detain, the said R. Doe for ransom, reward, extortion & to exact from relatives & friends of said R. Doe money & other valuable things with a deadly weapon. 1 count (Count 46) of rape.
C. Doe (July 16, 2000) Yolo County: 1 count (Count 26) of kidnap & carry away C. Doe to commit robbery, 5 counts (Count 27, 28, 29, 30 & 31) of unlawfully cause the penetration of the genital opening of C.
