The family of 24-year-old Phuong Le is still trying to cope with unanswered questions in her death, which authorities have only described as a murder.

"The hardest part right now is not knowing what happened to my sister," said Huong Le.

One of the top priorities in the case is to establish exactly when Phuong Le was killed. Her body was found near Highway 121 in Napa County on Friday, May 7, after disappearing on April 25 near a Fairfield bookstore.

Her remains had been there "for some time," according to Fairfield police Lt. Darrin Moody.

Investigators will look closely at the crime scene photos and the physical evidence found on and around Le's body. Everything will be analyzed, including the length of grass under and around Phuong's body and the types of animals and insects nearby.

Knowing the time of death will help investigators focus on possible suspects lacking airtight alibis.

Yes, they do attend usually to see who is there and if anyone is acting strangely or lurking...sometimes they film funerals to review later. I have not heard of any cases where this actually provided much info, but there may be some where they could look back later, after they have a suspect and see that he/she was there and did not have a good reason to be, i.e. for additional evidence in a trial.

I very much doubt this is connected, but the man that attacked this girl seems very violent.

"A southern California teen is lucky to be alive after being held at knife-point by a man who approached her on the way home from school.

"I didn't see him coming, leaving, anything...he just popped out of nowhere. He told me to get in the car, or I'm gonna cut you" said Guadalupe.

The police suspect Leonard Earl Scroggins, a registered violent sex offender and convicted rapist from Napa County, wanted in connection with a parole violation."

You never know what or who is related to a crime...I hope Napa police look into his whereabouts last month. Crimes are often solved by the next crime an offender commits, if LE links the cases.

Is this something detectives often do? Attending funerals? I can see the usefulness of this....but I don't know what's typical.
Yes as sometimes the perp will attend and LE is looking for any unusual behavior amongst the mourners. MOO

I'd speculate this isn't connected except for the RSO being from Napa County, unless the perp has a history of not selecting a particular type of victim. This girl is 13 y/o and Hispanic, as opposed to Phuong being a grown woman and Asian. MOO

IMO, Phuong is tiny and youthful looking compared to other 24 year old women. I think she could easily be mistaken for a teenager depending on how she was dressed. I am in between 13 and 24 and I think she looks like a lot of other girls my age. As for race, perhaps the perp is interested in ethnic females in general.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here and I really do not believe these two cases are linked, but I'm not ruling it out. Though I'm depressed about what happened to Phuong, I'm elated that this 13 year old was able to get away with only a cut.

I will agree Phuong could be mistaken for someone much younger, but first, I think it would be important to know about prior victim(s) of this perp. I too am very glad that Guadalupe escaped. I still think it's likely the killer knew Phuong in some way. MOO

Excellent find, Triple L! Great sleuthing...could be. I think this kind of perp is what LE is looking for. The fact that LE was present at the funeral is a way to observe the attendees. I wonder if they think their perp is in Fairfield though?? I believe this was done in the Sandra Cantu case. I think if TN was even a POI, then we would have heard something by now.

Seems that way, as was with Amber and Chelsea. I hope they have a clue though!!

New Details Emerge In Phuong Le Investigation
Fairfield Police Release Details Of Search At Phuong Le's Boss' Home

New details are emerging into the disappearance and murder investigation of Phuong Le with the unsealing of search warrants in the case including romantic emails between Le and her former boss quoting Air Supply song lyrics.

During the search for Le, Fairfield police served a search warrant at the home and business of Phuong Le's friend and former boss, Tchu Nguyen, who was reportedly the last person to speak with her before her disappearance.

According to AT&T phone records, he called her then she called him back. Her call to him lasted only a minute.

Fairfield Police on Friday released details of the search warrant they served on the Nguyen's home.

Following are some of the items taken from Nguyen's home during the search on April 29, 2010:

- 5 flip phones with cameras.
- 2 laptop computers
- 2 hard drives – one internal and two external.
- 3 cameras; 2 digital and 1 35mm
- 2 rolls of film
- 1 Sharp video recorder
- 1 MP3 player
- 2 memory cards
- 2 memory sticks used for cameras.
- Nguyen's drivers license and his social security card
- 1 Xbox
- 1Wii

A search of Le's computer revealed numerous emails of a romantic nature between her and Nguyen. In one e-mail, Nguyen sent Le lyrics of the Air Supply song "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" to Le. Nguyen had several different e-mail accounts.

Police said Le had $1,000 in the bank. She hadn't accessed her account since the day she disappeared.

Nguyen has fully cooperated with authorities.

Video has LE statement that Phuong's brothers are not POIs or suspects.

Definitively romantic. And a one-minute phone call. I think he saw her that day.

Frustrating though. They've unsealed the search warrants. That means the public knows more, but that sure doesn't mean LE does. :(

(Is it weird to say I miss Phuong?)

I didn't see the service but did watch the video link BeanE provided. Did anyone see Nguyen at the funeral? I didn't think he would be there but just curious.

Some people are set up for affairs better than others. 5 flip phones with camera, several e-mail accounts, 2 external hard drives etc., entrepreneurial drive, ability to lie, fool good family friends, harbor secrets, betray wife and children. None of which make him a murderer but does show he has the intelligence and underlying traits that would come into play if his livlihood is in someway threatened. moo

Here are the documents released:

Interesting that Phuong's brother had an inkling there was a romantic relationship with TN and he called TN multiple times after he found the car. Also says that Phuong expressed in e-mails that she wanted to be with TN. TN originally denied he had a romantic relationship with Phuong when first questioned by police at his home, with his wife present.

She had $500 IN CASH in her wallet along with her passport???

She was distraught "about many things" when she called TN. The probable cause statement said emails from Phuong to TN expressed she wanted to be with him.

Does it sound at all like she might have been contemplating running away with him? Obviously, TN would've been much less willing to carry out the plan that she would have. Did she give him an ultimatum in some way??? That would imply a motive.
