It's not easy for a person other than the actual person to drain a bank account. You have to go in person to do so. Most ATMs have a $500 or $1k a day max. You can't just drive to multiple ATMs either...You'd have to wait 24 hours. So basically someone would've had to have gone in person. He was a realtor and likely had tens of thousands of dollars to 'drain'. This had to be done in person. If this guy at the bar who was buying him drinks caused him harm and stole his ID...it's possible. He would've also needed his pin number which he could've forced out of him (bc most banks require you to enter this in addition to having a proper state id).

That's assuming he went to an ATM. I don't know what financial institution he uses for his banking, but I can transfer large sums of money from my banking app. Not sure if I could completely bring the account to $0, but probably very close.

I wonder if he ever met up with the friends at the casino?

“Sattelmaier said she last saw him Sunday taking a ride-share car to meet up with friends.”

Also how is it known that his bank accounts are empty? I’m wondering about ATM limits too.

Bank Accounts Drained, Phone is Dead. Where is Rich?

His atm limit was quite high, and was used at least once, AFTER Rich cashed in his winnings, after he called Marcy to say he was headed home. Regarding the bank account being monitored, my speculation is that both Rich & Marcy have access to the accounts. They are a real estate team (joint commission checks) and have been together a long time. I suppose that she was able to log in & view the activity. Or she gave the passwords to the detective. Rich is still missing... ugh. Where on earth are you buddy?

That makes sense, thanks. Do you know where and when the money was withdrawn from? (Might give more ideas on where to look.)

I bought a BMW with my debit card (long story). From that I learned it is very easy to spend large sums of money if your bank is used to seeing larger sums in and out (such as a real estate agent with large checks, or someone who periodically transfers funds to a higher yield account). Large purchases like that could probably drain an account where daily limits aren’t in place.

@John Galt I’m so sorry for your missing friend. I’d strongly encourage you to become a verified insider because it really helps to keep threads active and engaged. Hopefully you’ve gotten a chance to submit whatever is required.

Do they know where he was dropped off in LA County? The county is so vast and that might help us get an idea of what to check.

Submitted my verification email last night. I can't say yet specifically where the [publicly] unidentified person said they dropped Rich, but it was a specific public location in Compton. His phone pinged there too.. around 8am Monday. My speculation on that, knowing his phone died after he called Marcy, it was charged by someone between 3 and 8am.

Thank you, there is a casino in Compton which would be a large public location. Hopefully this person is at least giving him a break from all the gambling and I’ll really pray your friend just had one hell of a bender.

Yup. And it's a shady casino... IMO.
I pray he's off playing and partying his worries away.

I’m in San Diego and definitely saw it this morning at 5:30am pacific time because I asked a question on the post. Oh well... I hope they put out an official statement also!

Dang. Wish I'd seen it. I can only speculate on why detectives are being so tight-lipped... I know they got him into NamUs very quickly after they saw the casino footage. Why there is no flyer I have no idea, I keep asking Marcy to ask them for one.

It just said something to the effect of, a local resident is missing and they provided the link to the nbc la news article. They didn’t add any additional information.

why would someone bad even bother charging the phone? I wonder if Rich had a charger on him.

I just heard about this story and had to come find the thread here. I’ve been to Pechanga, alone no less...and this story is just terrifying. Hoping, against all odds that he just went on a bender, for lack of a better word, and makes it home safe.

@John Galt

I'm sorry to hear about your friend and that you're going through this. Is Compton a common place or even an occasional place Rich has gone or goes to? I'm assuming the answer is no based on my somewhat limited each coast knowledge of that part of LA, but I know you mentioned there was a casino there.
