*Pre-Preliminary Hearing for both (@ 9am PT) - CA – Roman Anthony Lopez (11) (last seen Saturday morning Jan. 11, 2020, found later in evening, Placerville) – death is being investigated as suspicious. *Lindsay Marie Piper (38/now 39) “stepmother” arrested (2/3/21), charged (2/4/21) & arraigned (2/9/21) with 1 count of willful cruelty to child possible injury/death & causing cruel & extreme pain for revenge & extortion of sadistic purpose, 1 count of torture & 1 count of willful poisoning/etc. food/etc. Plead not guilty. $1.3M bond.
Piper willfully & unlawfully mingled a poison & harmful substance with food, drink, medicine & pharmaceutical product & placed a poison & harmful substance in a spring, well, reservoir & public water supply.
*Jordon Thomas Piper (35/now 36) “father” arrested (2/3/21), charged (2/4/21) & arraigned (2/9/21) with 1 count of child abuse likely to cause injury or death & causing cruel & extreme pain for revenge, extortion or sadistic purpose, 1 count of torture & 1 count with willfully failing to provide food, shelter & medical attention to the child. Plead not guilty. $1.5M bond.
Justin Brousseau is the aunt of M, 8, C, 4, and L, 3, who has custody of the 3 children that were staying with the Pipers. They too were malnourished. Bio dad Justin alleges there's also proof of child abuse of his three children in addition to Roman. Roman’s bio mom passed away 4/4/21.

7/12/21 Update: The case was continued due to the fact that Jordan Piper got a new attorney that needed to get up to speed on the case. Jordan & Lindsey Piper will be back in court on Monday, Aug. 16. 8/16/21 Update: Pre-preliminary hearing rescheduled on 9/10/21.

Thanks for the update.

Finally charged with murder -- Jordan and Lindsay Piper were arrested in February on charges that initially included child abuse, poisoning and torture.

Authorities said that although an autopsy conducted revealed no obvious trauma, Roman was found to be “severely malnourished and dehydrated at the time of his death,” a press release sent out in February said.

Jordan and Lindsay Piper will be arraigned on Nov. 19.

Given the statements by the DA last February, seems to me that there had to be some new developments for murder charges to be leveled. Unless there's a negotiated plea agreement at some point, I don't see them dropping the charges they were first confident at being able to prove:

District Attorney Vern Pierson said he is confident his office will be able to prosecute to charges brought forward on Wednesday.

"We believe those we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt," Pierson said. "And we will be pursing those charges."

He said all of the questions surrounding this case may never be answered.

"In this case, unfortunately, there are components that, to this day, we’re confident in saying we will never actually know or have the ability to prove beyond a reasonable doubt," Pierson said.
