Read my post above #506, that was edited out but seattle1 had it in her post.

Thank you @Jo in Calif! :)

Since the details varied, I tried to post as they were coming out -- concerned they'd disappear. Typically, the party posting bail is not released but this case is in Federal court, and seems the government, defense, and even the Magistrate spoke somewhat freely.

I'll post US District Court -- Eastern District of California particulars later (i.e., public access to court proceedings).

PLEASE TAKE NOTE FOR FUTURE HEARINGS IN
U.S. DISTRICT COURT -- EASTERN DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA:

COVID-19: Court Operations, Restrictions, and Hours of Operation - New CAED

Public Access to Court Proceedings

Given that the Eastern District’s courthouses are closed for a significant period of time in light of the coronavirus pandemic, and recognizing the presumption of a public right to access court proceedings, the court is providing for members of the general public to listen to court proceedings still being held, by telephone or digital audio connection.

Instructions for listening to a court hearing will be provided at the top of the calendar for that hearing, with a dial in number and access code or other connection information for use in connecting at least 10 minutes prior to the hearing start time.

Link to Judge Peterson's Calendar (Courtroom 9):

Daily Calendar - New CAED

Access to the hearing will be locked once the hearing begins, after which point a member of the public will not be able to connect. Once connected, any member of the public must mute his or her connection and leave it muted for the entirety of the hearing.

A person's failure to mute a connection may result in the hearing being terminated and recommenced without public access available for the remainder of that hearing, or that person’s connection privileges being limited or revoked.

Members of the public listening to a court proceeding are reminded that the making or transmitting of any audio recording of all or part of a court hearing is strictly prohibited.

See Local Rule 173(a) (“All forms, means, and manner of taking photographs, tape recordings, broadcasting, or televising are prohibited in all courtrooms and the corridors adjacent thereto in the United States Courthouse Buildings during the course of, or in connection with, any judicial proceedings, whether the Court is actually in session or not.”).

@Sillybilly

ETA: Prelim Date

The Preliminary Hearing previously scheduled for March 18 at 2 pm was changed to March 25 at 2 pm.

SP does not look like that photo anymore. That's a very old driver's license photo. She is 39 years old. If you watch the video of her leaving the courthouse (or look at the stills from various newspapers), you will get a better idea of what she really looks like these days - hood, mask and all.

These are more accurate candid shots from 5-6 years ago:

Allow me to briefly recap.

Sherri claims she is kidnaped but it turns out that she was staying with an old (boy)friend during those few weeks and two Mexican ladies were not involved at all. She covered or boarded the windows in the room he left her say in. She never ventures out of his apartment. Sherri gets the (boy)friend to brand her shoulder with a phrase. She bangs herself up in order to cause bruises and lops off her 'signature' long hair. A kidnapping specialist gets someone to put up a million dollars to help find SP. Hours before Thanksgiving Day, she appears on the highway, after the (boy)friend releases her. The P family get an acct for crowd source funding. Plus, SP gets taxpayer funding to pay for C-PTSD treatments and counseling.

The (boy)friend claims there was no sex. Why does she want to be with this male if not to make mad passionate love? Perhaps the entire scheme was always about the money and the P's got lots of money from this illegal scheme.

That leaves me wondering:
was KP in on the scheming scam all along and also
will she try to pin the entire kidnapping on the (boy)friend as her defense.

The Judge is convinced in today's hearing to allow her out on bond! I suppose she's celebrating with her family as I write this. Color me flabbergasted.

moo jmovho
No sex! Really? All she wanted was to be locked up, beat up, starved, branded....plus a haircut?

Yup, Papini's attorney Michael Borges was actually arguing that an ankle monitor would 'subject her to public ridicule' and would 'aggravate' her PTSD.

Nope. The defense said wearing a monitor would be too stressful given her C-PTSD (Complex post-traumatic stress disorder) after she faked her abduction.

I live in Sacramento and drive past the downtown jail frequently. Hilarious that they parked so far away when there are usually plenty of spots with 100’ of the jail entrance. Family could
Have also simply pulled up 10’ from the door and had her get into the car - no one was pushing her out the door unexpectantly. To me, that looked like a planned “run from the paparazzi” to highlight how she is being hounded and is under stress. Ridiculous.
Love your "take" on Papini's exit from jail. Rings so true. :D
