I'm just catching up on this case after ignoring it for the past 5 years.
This woman is a disgrace and is tearing down those women who have actually suffered at the hands of men. They must be traumatized even more.
There are so many valid female 'victims' and here we have an impostor who is riding on their traumatized backs. And she has not one iota of caring for the impact on her children. She is a shameful human being.

4/11/22 Update: The plea agreement has been delivered to prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Sacramento, which is expected to file a charging document called an “information” & have it assigned to a magistrate judge for a hearing this week. The charges could have netted Papini up to 20 years & a $500K fine. Prosecutors have not yet filed a sentencing memo that details their recommended sentence. She has signed a plea deal & will admit that she planned the incident. Papini issued a statement through her attorney expressing remorse. “I am deeply ashamed of myself for my behavior & so sorry for the pain I’ve caused my family, my friends, all the good people who needlessly suffered because of my story & those who worked so hard to try to help me,” Papini said in her statement. “I will work the rest of my life to make amends for what I have done.” Her defense attorney William Portanova said his client plead guilty to lying to a federal officer & 2 counts of mail fraud. The plea agreement calls for Papini to pay restitution topping $300K. That includes $30,694.15 to the California Victims Compensation Board, which reimbursed her for things including visits to her therapist for "treatment for anxiety & PTSD" & for the ambulance ride to the hospital after she surfaced near Sacramento. She also will pay the Shasta County Sheriff's Office nearly $148, 866.23 & the FBI more than $2,558.35 for their expenses during the investigation. She also owes the Social Security Administration at least $127,567.60. Total is $309,686.33. Defendant further agrees that she will not seek to discharge any restitution obligation or any part of such obligation in any bankruptcy proceeding. Prosecutors agreed as part of the plea bargain to recommend a sentence on the low end of the sentencing range, estimated for Papini to be between eight & 14 months in custody. She is scheduled to be arraigned on those charges Wednesday, 4/13/22 & will likely enter the guilty pleas. Part of plea deal: Defendant agrees that all criminal monetary penalties imposed by the court, including restitution, will be due in full immediately at time of sentencing & subject to immediate enforcement by the government. Papini plead guilty to all charges. Sentencing hearing on 7/11/22.
4/20/22 Update: Keith Papini filed divorce papers on Wednesday, with a hearing set for 5/9/22 to discuss custody issues (#199572). The Papinis have two children, ages 9 & 7 & Keith Papini is requesting sole custody of them. He wrote that his wife is staying with a relative in Chico & has not seen the children since April 4. He said she had missed one scheduled visitation." Papini, in his filing, said that his wife was "not acting in a rational manner." According to the divorce petition, the Papinis have been married since October 2009 & separated on March 3, 2022, the same day she was arrested on federal charges. According to divorce papers Keith wants to be handed all of their property, including exclusive use of their rented home in Redding, their three cars, a Ford Majestic motorhome & a Correct Craft Wakeboard boat. Keith is also asking to be relieved of responsibility for Papini's debts which include two unsecured loans from her mother-in-law Kathleen & 'any obligations arising from her criminal behavior'.
6/30/22 Update: Papini was set to be in court on 7/11/22 in U.S. District Court in Sacramento, but her attorney asked the judge in the case to postpone judgment & sentencing until 9/19/22. 9/12/22 Update: Papini should be sentenced to eight months in prison, prosecutors say. "A lesser sentence, such as the one month of imprisonment recommended by probation or home detention in lieu of incarceration, is not sufficient to achieve the purposes of sentencing," prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum filed Monday in U.S. District Court for Eastern California. They also recommended three years of supervised released after time served. Papini’s attorney William Portanova said in a sentencing memorandum for the defense that Papini should be sentenced to a “term of no more than eight months with one month in custody & seven months of home detention under appropriate terms & conditions.”

male victims too, child victims too. It cuts across the board.
Why would the purported Hispanic female kidnappers choose that particular bible verse?
Her mind, plus the boyfriend's mind, are very mysteriously deranged.

They should have charged her with faking her own kidnapping.

8 months in prison is basically a slap on the wrist.

Who's to say she wouldn't try this little stunt again.

They need to make an example out of her.

It looks like someone Googled 'bible verse' and 'kidnap' and went with that.

In the history of ever, has a kidnapper ever branded a reference to kidnapping on a victim?

Never.

Theatre of the head.

And I just read what she did to her missing friend's Tera Smith's family.

She is a disgrace.

Just posting a link for this, b/c I hadn't heard about it before.

Senior U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb gave Papini a longer sentence than the government prosecutors' recommendation, which was 8 months, followed by three years of supervised release.

Papini, 40, also was ordered to pay $309,902 in restitution for losses incurred by the California Victim Compensation Board, the Social Security Administration, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“If she had not been caught, she’d still be taking the money and living the lie," Shubb said.

From the beginning, this one has definitely been, “expect the unexpected”. I wonder how KP and the kids are doing. Sherri deserves everything she got, and then some. The boyfriend would never have been found without the DNA match. I will never understand how he couldn’t have known a thing.

Good. Assuming she'll serve the majority of her sentence it gives Keith time to provide counseling for the children and to adjust to a new way of life. God only knows how badly the kids (and Keith) need help to work through Sheri's abusive treatment of them. She destroyed so many lives with her selfish wants.

I suspect the prison guards are going to have their hands full with this one.

Prior to learning her fate, Papini publicly apologized in court, saying, "I am choosing to humbly accept responsibility."

"I am guilty of lying. I am guilty of dishonor. I stand before you willing to accept, to repent and to concede," Papini said, according to the Sacramento Bee. "What was done cannot be undone. It can never be erased. I am not choosing to stay frozen like I was in 2016. I am choosing to commit to healing the parts of myself that were so very broken."

Yeah, right Sheri, we believe you. You get busy "healing" yourself, you're gonna have lots of "me time" to unfreeze yourself and stuff. Sheesh, sounds like the same old Sheri to me. MOO.

18 months plus 3 years supervision.

I'm glad the judge gave her a longer sentence, glad she has to pay back the Victim's fund.

But, all that being said, is there anyone who thinks 'time served' repays her debt to society?

It doesn't pay back taxpayers.

Or the community she maligned.

Frankly, she's a debt to society.

Ugh, she's some piece of work isn't she? A genuinely humble person doesn't have to tell people they're humble.
Truly accepting responsibility is not telling the world how brave and eager you are for "healing", it's apologizing for the massive wasted resources, time and energy by all the people involved in her case.
Wow that was hard to type and stay within TOS.
Good riddance lady, 18 months couldn't have happened to a more worthy person.

Yep.

Me, me, me, me, me.

I expect her to get that olde tyme religion in prison.

Hopefully her new "healed" self sticks to the straight and mostly narrow and leaves her old family mostly alone.
