so there 100% is blood clearly and determining whose and how many people bleeding is for testing to determine...god what an awful scene mom must have stumbled on. : (

So now we know why 1. Mom called police immediately instead of anything else and 2. Why police arrived immediately in full force. We can guess that blood was the evidence left behind that indicated the trio did not leave the home on their own free will.

I may be the last optimist out there but I still have hope that Nathan is alive. I just don't think he is being held in his grandma's arms, as his mother said. :-(

My notes of presser -

Staff Sgt Doug Andrews
-LE remains hopeful all 3 will be found alive
- have done a thorough forensic examination of residence
- can now confirm that violent crime took place there
- waiting on results of examination of forensic evidence to determine who victims were
- Amber Alert remains in effect
- seeking public assistance to locate truck seen driving past residence numerous times on night of disappearance
- want to talk to driver and any occupants of that truck
- yesterday, LE spoke to about 75 people who attended the estate sale - it is believed about 200 people attended, so LE asking others to contact them
- receiving tips from all across country, following up on all
- no further updates anticipated until next week - unless a break in the meantime
- question - is this now a homicide investigation? No, still a missing persons investigation
- question - can you confirm that there was blood? No, can only say forensic evidence
- question - who was victim? Waiting on results of forensics to determine that
- question - how long for results? Several days to a week
- question - is driver of truck a suspect? or POI? only a POI in the fact that he/she may have information
-question - what about marks on outside of house? Those marks were examined, now assessing relevance to investigation
- question - was there blood found from more than one vicitm? Based on what LE has seen, violent incident took place inside the residence. Continues to say forensic evidence, does not confirm it was blood
-question - how many people in truck. Do not know, cannot see.
- question - did truck drive by on road and in alley? No, only on road.
- question - motive? Do not have motive at this point. Have developed several theories, working them all
- question - items missing from home? Cannot confirm that yet, working on building list based on what family tells LE, and info from those who attended sale
- question - is LE concerned about amount of time that has passed? No, still early in the investigation, getting tips from across Canada and working with agencies across country & outside country
- question - were truck occupants attending sale? Do not know.
- question - can you confirm that blood was found on outside of house? on garage? Forensic crime scenes units tested marks on outside of residence (does not confirm it was blood).
- question - more than 1 person involved? Do not know
-question - any sign of forced entry? No indication of forced entry

If anyone wants to add/clarify, feel free - I'm sure I missed a couple of questions. HTH

While googling AL, I found an article, however, it doesn't allow me to copy and paste.

The heading is Parkhill News Spring08 - Parkhill Stanley Park

Scroll down to Crime Watch - Beware! Could this person be the perp -- six years later?

This is the L's neighbourhood.

I took a screen shot of the Crime Watch article attached.

Maybe not related at all, but found this while reading about the Barrie (Oro-Medonte) burned vehicle incident:

OPP searching for missing Oro-Medonte man

Police need help from the public in locating a missing Oro-Medonte man.

Paul Steven Fenton, 35, was last seen in Oro-Medonte sometime in the evening of June 12th, 2014.

Family says his disappearance is out of character for him and they are concerned about his well-being.

This and that Jim Smyth is involved has me a little worried about the bodies in Barrie.

I am very upset that Smyth is in charge of the investigation. For those who don't know, Det.-Ins.Jim Smyth is the behavioural science specialist that cracked Russel Williams in his interrogation and coerced a confession from him on the murders of Jessica Lloyd, Marie-France Comeau and 88 other sexual offenses, and is also the Detective who located the remains of school girl Victoria Stafford.

Last time we heard about him in a case, he was part of a task force for Sonia Varaschin's unsolved murder. I am extremely dismayed right now. :(

Does anyone know if Smyth was working this case? He is an expert in many things, and given the usage of the ViCLAS, the software that links up violent crimes in different geographical areas across Canada, he doesn't just go to "any" case. :(

The M.O. for that robber would fit with no sign of forced entry if he charmed his way in or again thought the place was vacant which seems unlikely if the cars were in the drive now that I think about it...

Actually someone coming back to pick something up from the sale would have also easily been let in.

No description contained in the article :banghead:

I'm confused, How is Det. Jim Smyth working on the Barrie crime connected to this one? Sorry I think I missed something

Today's press conference seemed less optimistic than yesterday's somehow. Yesterday he stated that they hoped to bring the victims home to their family alive, today he simply said they hope to bring them home. It's a small thing, but his aspect seemed a bit different today.

The Barrie incident just happened. Jim Smyth is crème de la crème of the BSU, and for him to be brought in immediately after the discovery of the burned vehicle with 3 bodies inside indicates this is a rather exceptional incident/crime.

It's not. Det. Smyth is in Ontario and has nothing to do with Alberta cases. If the burned out vehicle is related to this missing family, they will work together. I doubt that anyone would drive three days to set a vehicle on fire.

The fact the presser was late, and I instantly felt that Sgt Andrus was stammering and not as composed as during other pressers, I felt something was up. It's very possible they had just been advised of the Barrie incident. Not necessarily, but timing seems to coincide.

Could you elaborate on this?

At the presser he stated they were working with agencies across the country. Jim Smyth is a very high ranking police detective with the Ontario Provincial Police, I don't think he would normally be involved in a case of burned out bodies in Oro-Medonte. (Though it has become some what of a body dumping ground in recent years.) I have no idea if these bodies in Barrie are related to the missing family in Calgary but I just think its kind of weird that Jim Smyth is assisting.
