In my opinion they must have brain matter or enough blood evidence at the house to speculate that at least one person died. They could then infer the rest were killed then or later. I think them scouring, or making reference to scouring so many leads and so much evidence "painstaking" was the word used in the presser means that the suspect tried very hard to clean up - maybe using chemicals or otherwise and they had a hard time getting a good idea of the amount of blood/whose blood etc... we know from the possible drag marks there was a clean up job of some kind and taking the bodies alone lends itself to thinking he was trying to cover tracks/hide evidence. I think the key from the beginning was a major bloody crime scene in the home. MOO

The worst kind of ending to this.
I think Calgary Police Chief Rick Hanson did a fabulous job of giving the press as much as he could. He certainly was a very articulate and measured given the pounding of questions by the media.

I have a question that maybe somebody here can answer:
What kind of evidence can there be to suggest the certain death of all 3 without any bodies being found?

If no kidnapping charges, does this infer that all 3 were killed at the house?

I think DG already gave a hint of his intention when he asked, re the terms of the release: "I live on the farm, sometimes working out past 9 o'clock, would my residence be on the farm itself?"

I can't believe he's so dumb as to go out and head there as soon as released. He must have something to do/conceal urgently then?

2nd degree murder means the 3rd person was not killed during a kidnap, I believe.

I believe that means it was not pre-meditated, whereas the first degree charges were because the suspect planned it ahead. JO may have been right, NO was not supposed to be there.:(
Devastating.

I believe, and this is JMO, that it's possible that the 2nd degree charge could be upgraded to 1st degree, IF LE can prove that Nathan was killed during a kidnap, in this case, being removed from the home and killed later.

They likely have motive for the 1st degree charges for the Liknes', but, not Nathan, and they can't prove if he was "kidnapped" or removed from the home, because I do believe that the charge would be 1st degree murder on Nathan as well, if he was killed during a "kidnap".

IMO, LE was attempting to give him enough rope to hang (incriminate) himself.

Was DG back on the Airdrie property when he wasn't supposed to be? It sounds like they arrested him at 1:30am on the property. Did I hear that right? Did he go back to hide evidence and was arrested??

"Arrested on property in the vicinity of the acreage" DG WENT BACK!?

He said "arrested on property in the vicinity of the acreage"... crazy... just crazy. LE may have followed him after his release and he went straight there!!

Even though he is a supposed "genius" he is very stupid (and I'm glad of it).

That would explain the presence of the medical examiner at the crime scene on the day that they were reported missing, as well as the 24 feet of drag marks from the side door to the parking pad.

He said.. person arrest.. not yet charged.. not yet before a justice.. cannot ID until formally charged... will do so later today.

I don't get why they can't identify a person who was arrested.

Thank you to everyone who posted what was going on during the PC. I appreciate it. So sad.

When the child's grandparents are leaving town and the child will not see them for a long time?

If the parents are in the process of liquidating everything so they can skip town, and their house has been gutted by an estate sale, common sense dictates that a five year old child is better off in his own bed. I suppose part of me is upset that the grandparents wanted their grandson to spend the night given that it was not an ideal situation by any stretch of the imagination.

Gosh, why not leave the bodies!!! This makes me so upset, and so angry!!! Removing the bodies to cover your own *advertiser censored*, when you're going to be caught anyway! UGH UGH UGH! Let the families have the right to give their loved ones the respect they deserve in death!!!!

I think the evidence was in the blood. I bet the DNA of all three victims was found in the blood at the house. That is how they know they are all dead. Maybe they found bloody clothes or murder weapon at or near Airdrie property. IMO?

I got that he was arrested 'close to' the property they had been investigating, in Airdrie.

Said the suspect was arrest on a property that was closed by LE.... (not at motel)
I didn't hear it clearly, which property was that? Was it DG's property or not?

I'm pretty sure you are right and charges WOULD be upgraded in Nathan's death if he was removed from the home alive and killed later. Sick.....

Can we infer anything from the overnight sequence of events?

If the Crown agreed it was time to lay charges last night, LE would arrest POI on those charges.

Except that isn't exactly what happened. They picked him up at 1:30am after an "opportunity" (Chief's wording) arose.

My guess is this means they interpreted a violation of release conditions and arrested him during the night, and that this morning LE/Crown made the decision to lay the murder charges.
