I was just looking back through some of the articles that have been published about the case, and one thing that concerns me is that mental issues have been documented with the person of interest. That might lead to a free pass into a psychiatric institution.

"The records say “mental issues” may have contributed to property offences committed by Garland, who was also convicted of possessing break-in tools at the time of the drug lab conviction."

From the way his eye looks in this photo it's possible to imagine what he may have looked like during a struggle...

He was wearing a Paramount Resources Ltd. T-shirt.

OMG! Garland doesn't look old or frail at all!!!!

He looks strong, healthy and completely capable of physically dragging bodies!!!!

Incredible how the sketches portrayed images so very different from the reality. Scary how "normal" this man appears. Someone one would pass by on the street and offer a courteous hello to. That's what really terrifies me. The monsters in our midst don't really look like monsters do they?

“The Board is satisfied that there are no reasonable grounds to believe that, if released, you are likely to commit an offence involving violence before the expiration of your sentence, and directs your release at your eligibility date.”

In the documents upon which the parole board based its decision, a pertinent line about the meth-cook's mental state reads "Assessed by a psychologist as having little violence potential to others."

Instead of serving his 39 month sentence, DG served only a sixth of his sentence.

I wonder how much the psychologist who performed the, IMO, sketchy evaluation for the parole board actually knew about the behaviours of meth-heads. I'd like to know how he/she came up with such an appraisal, what tests were used, what criteria were evaluated.

i wonder if LE have linked Garland to the murders of Don and Roxanne Carlson which happened just this past February. perhaps a trial-run by Garland?

Why? Other than the fact that their murder has not solved, do they have connections to him or the oil and gas industry? Thanks

I really hope that Calgary Police Service also looks into any possible connection between DG and the victims of the Highway of Tears while he was hiding out in Vancouver.

Thanks for a loner , he has pretty trendy glasses. JMO and there is no real relevance to this other than I think the way he has been depicted is not exactly what I see now.

I'm reminded of Hannah Arendt's chilling phrase, for in this case, the monster epitomizes "the banality of evil".

And he looks quite fit and strong Cathdawg not nearly as frail as Janice Fletcher's sketches

Hi all.....I have only just came here and saw there was an arrest so am going to read backwards through the thread to catch up, but I saw this post and it has me fuming!!!!!!!! How many times are we seeing this happening!! For a start I think the whole concept of parole is ridiculous............if someone is sentenced to be taken away from society for a certain amount of time, then that is what should happen for the whole time....... no reductions. In a lot of western countries these days our "do gooding radar" seems to have hit the extreme, it is time it started going back towards common sense...

You are much stricter and harsher with your judicial system in a lot of your states: Australia's judicial system is a joke, its more of a holiday camp with very lenient sentences and too much focus on rehabilitation with the crims being given too many chances.

Ok rant over......will start reading again.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with the area, but from Vancouver to the "highway of tears" is about the same distance as Calgary is from it.

Some interesting details about DG's past in this article regarding his problem with authority, sense of entitlement and previous weapons and assault charges… Not good to hear this was in an old file.
BBM: "But the documents also refer to several criminal charges for violence Mr. Garland once faced, a two-decades long record for property offences and ongoing “mental health concerns.”

my reply with quote didn't work in my post, but i was responding to mrazda71's post:

"This isn't a direct quote but didn't at some point during the press conference the police chief say something along the lines of - these are the only things the POI will be charged with at the minute but they will be looking into unsolved previous cases ... could it be that because of this case it may come to light that this was not the first time 'he' has committed murder?"
