Wondergirl, your posting about cellphone towers made me wonder if MC took both his cellphone and Amber's cellphone with him when he presumably left home to go pick her up.

Well, I don't know why he would?

I wonder if Amber left her cell phone on, wherever she left it? :waitasec:

Did MC even know that Amber didn't have her cell hone with her?

It was said that Amber left (forgot?) her cellphone at hers and MC's place, which is where that last picture with her friends was taken.

MC has said he was home when he received her call to go pick her up, right?

I was thinking that if it was my daughter, she would be having 'cellphone withdrawal' by then, and she would have asked for him to bring her cellphone (when she called to be picked up), so she could text her friends while on the ride back home.

Here is a map of the cell towers, currently located in New Glasgow.

Red designated Rogers; Yellow designated Bell.

Wondergirl: Thanks for this post. It's interesting to note that they did run a search for Amber out in the 'Frasers Mountain' area.

If you look on a 'Google' map of the area, you can see how the roads can 'loop' around to the Trenton - 'Mechanic St.' area.

I'm not really familiar with making 'Google' maps, but here is a link to the area. Starting from Dooly's, you can see a possible route, using the Frasers Mountain Road.

http://g.co/maps/4uasq

The following link contains an interesting 'mention' of another 'tip' in Amber's case:

Quote:
A tip to police in the Kirwin case led them to Mechanic Street a couple of weeks ago, but what if anything came from it isn't being revealed.
End Quote

I see lots of other 'routes' that would work as well, but the Frasers Mountain tower just jumped out at me when I noticed it.

I hope this question doesn't offend anyone, but I was wondering if we know with certainty that both MC and Amber had their own cell phones? I could never get this clear--and with finances being a bit of an issue (with insurance expiring and car inspection due); I have been wondering.

Is there a list of known search areas? I didn't know that about Fraser Mountain. Did they search in the Little Egypt Road area?

While a tower may be owned by one company, it is my understanding that your cell phone will automatically "look" for reception for the next incoming call, to prepare for it, when you go from the range of one tower to another, even if you have not made/received a call or even turned off your phone.

Depending on the models of the cell phone(s) possibly being anaylzed in this case, there would be alot of info to be gleaned from them, and their interaction with the towers.

That Fraser Mountain Tower would appear to be the most northerly tower of the bunch. I do wonder what the parameter is for that tower? It must service the entire north end of those counties. Also, the 2 located right in the centre of New Glasgow may prove useful in this case.

I bet there are alot of "dead cell reception" zones in the north end of the geographical area.

Wondergirl: I don't know of an official list of 'known' search areas. (lol--I have an unofficial one that I refer to.)

I'll come back with a link for the day they searched the Fraser Mountain area. I've reviewed it lately because I wanted to find further confirmation of the info in Mr. Howe's blog about the Mechanic St. search--but, unfortunately, I couldn't find that. I'm positive that was reported, though. I remember it.

The Fraser Mountain search was mentioned in the New Glasgow News--I'll come back in a couple of minutes with a link.

Wondergirl: Sorry that took so long. (I think I missed it the first time through.) There is only a brief mention of it.

I do believe you are correct about there being a lot of "dead cell reception" zones. I am from a neighbouring province; and, we do, indeed, have that problem.

I'm not sure about the Little Egypt Road. I'm going to do a little re-organizing of my list; and if I notice anything pertaining to this road, I'll drop in with a link.

Considering that Amber didn't have her cell phone with her that unfortunate night--I wonder whose cell phone they could track? It's still interesting, though.

Police continue investigations

Police are still investigating both the case of missing person Amber Kirwan and the shooting death of Ed Phalen in Trenton.

Const. Ken MacDonald said they have been receiving some information from hunters, but as yet have not been able to come to the bottom of the case.

They are still appealing to hunters and others to report anything they see.

Police advise parents to caution children
Published on October 29, 2011

Const. Ken MacDonald with New Glasgow Police said it's important for parents to make sure kids are walking in pairs and suggests that parents accompany younger children in particular during the witching hour.

"We advise people not to walk alone - parents should make sure their kids are supervised," he said.

That's nothing different than what police tell people every year, he said, but the disappearance of county teen Amber Kirwan earlier this month drives home that message.
.............................
Extra police will be on hand in both Trenton and New Glasgow tonight to ward off any problems, but MacDonald says that's a usual occurrence on Halloween.

This article, imo, gives a little more credibility to the article the New Glasgow News carried last night--as I would 'expect' new searches to be generated immediately for Amber if 'new information' has been received from 'hunters'.

I took a quick check if this link has already been posted and didn't see it or missed it. This is a wonderful resource of all materials/articles on Amber's search.

Marikesh: You can reach the articles linked on that forum right on the 'New Glasgow News' site. Following is a link to the page where they all appear. (The 'newest' ones appear on their front page. As soon as the time expires--they appear here as well.)
http://www.ngnews.ca/The-search-for-Amber-Kirwan-308/content/1

On the wonderful 'Websleuths' forum, it is my understanding that we have always been able to quote and discuss anything that appears in the 'mainstream' media. In Canada, that would definitely include articles appearing on the CBC and the CTV news sites, (as well as others.)

These are big reputable news organizations that work in conjunction with law enforcement. What they report is not rumour, and they do not make it up.

When Mr. Sutherland said on CTV that MC waited one minute and forty seconds for his live-in girlfriend of four months in the parking lot of Big Al's; and that-- quote: "There was no sign of her [Amber] at all on the camera. None whatsoever." --we can trust that.

You can 'bet' that that information is 'true', and was released with the 'blessings' of law enforcement.

If it doesn't favor MC, we might all regret that; however, let us remember that 19 year old Amber Kirwan is the victim here.

Who is speaking for her?

Shortened to discuss:

BBM: I can appreciate what you are getting at here, Truth Prevails, but truly do not believe that Mr. Sutherland is under direction from LE, although he could be, but, unless LE says it themselves....and even then, well......they have a job to do. ;)

Wodergirl: I, also, can appreciate your advise. However, are you suggesting that Mr. Sutherland, while not under direction form LE or anyone, approached the media with info that law enforcement did not want out there; and, perhaps, is not true? And that the media--acting irresponsibly and without fact checking--went ahead and reported?

Or, are you suggesting that the media approached Mr. Sutherland for an interview and he stated things that may or may not be true; and the media (again acting irresponsibly and without fact checking), reported anyway; simply hoping for a good story?

What about the information reported as coming from MC's mother? You know, (and I can provide links from the 'local media', as well as others who then carried the story), the little facts like MC had someone with him that night; and that there were still people at 'home' while MC was 'intending' to 'meet' Amber at Big Al's? How and why did this information get released? Law enforcement has not commented on it.

Why should we believe this information, (because it favours MC)--but not the information provided by Mr. Sutherland (because it is not necessarily so favourable), through the CTV news? Surely, they both deserve equal weight.

(I note that in the CTV Atlantic video carrying the 'story' of Mr. Sutherland, Const. MacDonald does comment; though it is only about the 'police vehicle' seen in the video of Amber leaving Dooly's.)

I hope you realize that the media does work in conjunction with law enforcement when reporting on crime. They are not lone mavericks irresponsibly reporting information that may 'hinder' the work of law enforcement.

I certainly never meant to imply that Mr. Sutherland was acting under 'direction' from LE; but I do not believe that that man would have deliberately provided false information; nor do I believe that the CTV would have reported false information. Yes, I believe they 'fact' check, and receive some amount of 'consent' before releasing this type of information.

I may believe that 'more' could have been reported; however, I suspect that shut-off point (regarding what info the media releases to the public), does come from LE.

I understand that 'law enforcement' has a job to do; and I want them to do that job. I do not agree that the tiny bits of information that we are afforded--and shoud be afforded through freedom of speech--will in any way hinder the investigation.

Actually, I believe it just might help.

I don't know if I'm reading it wrong, but has the time when Amber was last seen been changed? IIRC, it was originally said 01:30 am, then when the video was released they said around 01:45 am, and now this:
Kirwan was last seen leaving Dooly’s on Oct. 9 just before 2 a.m.

Hazel: I don't want to split hairs, here. Really, I don't.

However, I do believe that 2:00 a.m. is just before 1:45 a.m.

These media sources are credible; honestly, I know they are. Perhaps some are displeased because they do not slant the story the way they would like; but it was always my understanding that at Websleuths that we could discuss the facts as given in the main stream media.

Or, maybe, for this one case, we should overlook all but the New Glasgow News, because they seem to favour the person who named himself a person of interest with a CBC reporter; and they don't seem to have much interest in reporting what his mother wants reported.

What about Amber Kirwan--the victim here. Who speaks for her?

I'm glad to hear her parents and the police will issue a public statement on her behalf, tomorrow. I hope it is good news.

You are absolutely correct, we can discuss facts given by LE and information we get from the media, as long as we provide a link to support what we post. If it is an idea of our own, a theory, suggestion, etc, we have to make that clear by adding IMO, MOO, JMHO, etc.
By the way, I too agree that most of what the media reports is credible, JMHO. When they report that so and so said this or that, I believe that so and so said that, BUT who can assure us that so and so is telling the truth? That's the reason why is better to wait for LE confirmation.
And no, I'm not talking about Al's statement. I do believe Al is telling the truth, that is just how I feel about his statement, just my own opinion.

Correct me if I didn't get it right: are you asking why the NG news has not covered what M's mother said to the CBC reporter?

I am kind of confused when on one hand you say "they seem to favour the person who named himself a poi" and at the same time "they don't seem to have much interest in reporting what his mother wants reported", which IMO will take some heat off of him....it seems you are contradicting yourself, or am I reading it wrong?

About the 02:00 a.m., are you saying you think it is a reporting mistake, and that they meant to write before 01:45 am instead?

Let's hope tomorrow brings some good news, and whoever knows 'something' makes that phone call to police (or anonymously to Crime Stoppers if they prefer to do so), and help find Amber, hopefully safe and sound.

Actually, Hazel, I believe you are correct in that you discovered a very poorly written statement, made by me.

Here is what I said: Quote: "Or, maybe, for this one case, we should overlook all but the New Glasgow News, because they seem to favour the person who named himself a person of interest with a CBC reporter; and they don't seem to have much interest in reporting what his mother wants reported."

I apologize for my wording, and hope the following is better: 'Or, maybe, for this one case, we should overlook all but the New Glasgow News, who appears to favour, imo, the person who named himself a person of interest with a CBC reporter; and the CBC, imo, doesn't seem to have much interest in reporting what his mother wants reported.'

Now, regarding the 1:45 a.m. and the 2:00 a.m. debate--I believe this is a fifteen minute time span, no? Do you have a link for a 'press release' where LE confirms the exact time Amber left Dooly's? I would be interested in reading that, if you would be so kind as to provide me with one.

In support of what I have mentioned above, I submit the following links. The first two are from the CBC (and I apologize if they have been previously submitted):
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2011/10/12/ns-amber-kirwan-boyfriend-questioned.html
Quote:
Campbell said he understands that he is considered a person of interest in Kirwan's disappearance, but he said he has been completely honest with police.

"I've had trouble picking out bits and pieces of what I was doing completely that day. But for the most part they have every bit of my information — everything I've done, any leads I've followed up on, any calls I've gotten. They know everything."

End Quote

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2011/10/13/ns-ground-search-amber-kirwan.html
Quote:
Campbell is a person of interest in her disappearance.
End Quote

In fairness, I want to add this one from the New Glasgow (Pictou County) News (and again apologize if it has been previously submitted):
http://www.ngnews.ca/News/Local/201...-investigation-into-disappearance-continues/1
Quote:
Mason Campbell said the police have no interest in him and he is confident he is not guilty of anything.

“I don’t believe I am guilty of anything in any way, shape or form,” he said. “The cops aren’t looking at me.”

Campbell’s mother, Eva, and Mariea Leil Bowser, {snipped} both said that Campbell had someone in the car with him when he went to meet Kirwan and that person was with him afterwards when he was looking for her.

“Mason was with someone all night and I met the fellow who was with him and he has already spoken to the police,” Leil Bowser said.

Leil Bowser said Campbell’s car, which was seized by police on Oct. 16, was returned to him this past Sunday.

Const. Ken MacDonald of the New Glasgow Police Service said police could not comment on Campbell’s statement.

End Quote

And this one from a 'local New Glasgow area blog' (if I'm allowed to, and again with apologies if it has been previously submitted):
http://ngtalks.com/?p=186
Quote
Mariea has a close connection to the families at the core of this horrible tragedy. She is best friends with Mason Campbell’s (Amber’s boyfriend) mother. She was even there when Mason was born.
End Quote

These are the things that no-one is allowed to discuss on some forums; but, I am surprised to see that beginning here. I submit the following question humbly--New Glasgow is a small town and Amber has been gone since approximately 1:45 a.m., on October 9, 2011--are they closing their ranks to protect their own; and in doing so forgetting Amber?

I do, of course, know about the 'pictures' on every pole; and the 'green ribbons'; and the 'fund raising' events; and on and on.

I do have sympathy for what her friends are going through; and, yes, maybe even her boyfriend--however, my heart bleeds for 19 year old Amber Kirwan. Where is she, and what has this beautiful girl gone through? Today will mark the very first time that Amber's parents "will release a public statement"; unless you count their e-mail to 'News 95.7' at this link: http://www.news957.com/news/local/article/287767--family-of-missing-new-glasgow-woman-reaches-out

I just noticed this brief write-up from 'News 95.7' when I went looking for the link for the e-mail from Amber's parents. At least, to me, it offers a little more clarity concerning today's 'public statement':
http://www.news957.com/news/local/article/294319--missing-woman-s-parents-to-make-public-appeal
News 95.7 StaffNov 01, 2011 05:23:24 AM
Quote:
Cst. Ken MacDonald tells Metro Halifax Donald and Marjorie Kirwan will be appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
End Quote

Also, I am aware of 'some' of the rumours surrounding the recent homicide of Edward Phalen. Perhaps there is a connection, and 'things' will clear-up for the better. I hope so--for Amber's sake.

I do hope I haven't made too many confusing statements in my comment. I have tried--for Amber.

Prayers for Amber--may today be the day she comes home!
