The body found early this week was identified as a 60 year woman - her name was Sandra McLaughlan

MMIW: New unsolved cases added to CBC's database

After launching an investigation last year, CBC News continues to follow up on unsolved cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls from across the country.

As of today, CBC has added 55 cases to our database, 285 individual cases in total.

Here are just a few women, and their stories, we have recently added to our database.

Caitlin Potts, 27, went missing in February of this year. Her last known location was Enderby or Kelowna, B.C.

Caitlin Potts has been missing for almost four months. Her last known location was Enderby or Kelowna. B.C. (Facebook)

It has now been six months since she disappeared and according to her family, the RCMP did not put out a missing person's alert on their site until two months after Caitlin was reported missing.

In June, Potts family organized a search of their own, with the help of Indigenous groups in B.C.

Chief urges communities to live violence free

So far, that desire for change has translated into physically assisting in the search for missing woman and girls such as helping the Splatsin First Nation at Enderby search for Caitlin Potts June 7. Potts, originally from Alberta, was reported missing March 1.

Esk’etemc members assisted in supporting the Potts family, took part in the search and helped put on a feast afterwards.

3 women still missing from the North Okanagan — 2 of the disappearances being investigated as suspicious

"It's to refresh people's memories about what she looked like [that day] and what she may have been wearing," said Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau.

RCMP investigators believe Potts' disappearance is the result of foul play. Her body has not been found. Investigators have released a surveillance video and information about Pott's disappearance again to refresh people's memories, espeically since outdoor seasonal activities are picking up, with people spending more outdoor leisure time around their communities.


Linteau says as summer approaches and people spend more time outdoors, there is a better chance they may find more clues linked to her, like her clothing, to help police find answers.

Update: Police confirm search of property underway in Silver Creek
Missing woman’s father says police confirm search not related to Ashley Simpson’s disappearance.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP confirms they are conducting a search of a property in the 2200 block of Salmon River Road.

“This investigative effort and execution of a search warrant is in relation to an ongoing investigation,” says RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.
“No further information is being released at this time to ensure the integrity of the ongoing investigation.”

It is not known what case the police are working on.

There are three missing women from the area, including Ashley Simpson and Deanna Wertz who both went missing from the Yankee Flats area. Caitlin Potts, an Enderby woman, is also missing, although she was last seen in Kelowna. A Malakwa woman, Nicole Bell, also remains missing after her disappearance was reported to police on Sept. 7, 2017.

There have been previous police searches conducted in the area around where these women have been reported missing.

On her FB, she has several posts that suggest she had a very bad relationship with her BF (whom by the time she went missing was her ex). Also, since she was pretty prolific on FB (posting nearly every day or so) and all of her posts stop on February 22nd it's probably safe to presume that is a good date to work an investigation off of.
