Search being organized for Caitlin Potts; missing for five years in North Okanagan - Vernon News

A search is being organized to find Caitlin Potts, a First Nations woman who has been missing for five years from the Enderby area.

Victoria Love, a member of the Okanagan Forest Task Force, is seeking people willing to join the search.

“The search will be for her remains. It will be taking place ... Aug 9 to 20 and will be very organized ... I am currently working to hire a search and rescue team,” Love wrote on the OFTF Facebook page.

Love is looking for experienced hikers, people with search and rescue experience, foresters, archaeologists, field techs, hunters, and anyone with experience in the bush.

It’s been seven years since Caitlin Potts went missing, and friends and family of the Indigenous Enderby woman aren’t giving up the fight for justice.

Caitlin’s mother, Priscilla Potts, and Caitlin’s teenage son Shane, drove from Pigeon Lake, Alta. to join a gathering outside the Vernon RCMP detachment Tuesday afternoon.

Candles were lit, sage was burned and rally cries were shouted calling for justice for Caitlin and other missing and murdered women.

Caitlin was last seen in Enderby on Feb. 22, 2016. She was in addiction services when she disappeared. A missing person’s report was filed March 1, 2016. A year later, surveillance footage was released showing Caitlin entering Hudson’s Bay at the Orchard Park Shopping Centre in Kelowna. The clip was from Feb. 21, 2016.

Even though Caitlin’s body hasn’t been found, Priscilla went into the police detachment to officially declare her daughter deceased.

Family members travelled to Enderby to pay honour to Caitlin, including her son, brother, mother and other relatives and supporters.

A crowd of about 30 waved banners in the call for justice, demanding police do more to resolve the investigation.

Several at Thursday's event, including organizer Jody Leon, were critical of police handling of the case.

The Potts family called on the justice system and RCMP Major Crimes Unit to release an age-enhanced picture of Caitlin, showing what she might look like now.
