''Lawyer Chris Murphy, acting as an agent for the woman’s defence lawyer, Marie Henein, noted in court that there is no agreement in place between the province and Saskatoon police to transport women to Pine Grove, near Prince Albert, if they are arrested on a Friday. Men are transferred to the Saskatoon Correctional Centre.

For the last three nights, the woman was held in a small cell with no blanket or mattress, no access to fresh air, and no toothbrush or toothpaste, Murphy told court. She doubled up a sheet she was given to stay warm and was not able to use a shower until Monday morning, he added.

“She was not provided with a privacy blanket with which to cover herself when she goes to the washroom,” he said, adding there’s a video camera on the cell door that offers a view for people passing by.''

“I just wanted to raise that discrepancy between the way women are treated when they come into the Saskatoon Police Service custody on Friday,” Murphy said, noting that he sent a letter to Police Chief Troy Cooper on Sunday about those conditions.''

''Henein issued a statement saying her client has been failed by Canadian authorities “at every turn

“Despite her painful first-hand knowledge of the Indigenous experience in Canada — including what she knows of the Saskatchewan police and their shameful treatment of Indigenous communities — (she) nonetheless sought help and refuge through official channels in Saskatchewan. But the system failed her, like it has so many others. (Her) voice will not be silenced,” she wrote.

“While it is trite for defence counsel to say that the case will be vigorously defended, in (her) case truer words could not be uttered.”

Walker is complaining about her detention conditions. She should have thought about that before she faked the death of a 7 year old boy. Her friends and family are outraged that there is a no-contact application preventing her from contact with the child and his father. It sounds like they do not understand the seriousness of her criminal activities - almost as though criminal activities are justified in some circumstances.

"Walker faces charges of abduction in contravention of a custody order and public mischief. Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said additional charges are being considered as the criminal investigation continues. She also is facing charges in the U.S. for allegedly stealing the identity of a close friend to illegally cross the border. ...

The Crown prosecutor opposed the release of Walker. A bail hearing is scheduled for Friday. ...

The Crown is also seeking a no-contact order for Walker and her ex-partner and son. ...

“The SPS Detention Unit is not a provincial remand unit, but when necessary is required to hold people in cells over weekends until they are able to see a judge or a justice of the peace who will consider the question of their release,” SPS spokesperson Alyson Edwards said in a statement.

Edwards said beds in the unit are heated, raised permanent structures and sheets only are provided. She said toothbrushes are not provided due to safety concerns.” According to SPS, the unit has a dedicated wing for females in custody, staffed 24 hours a day by paramedics who are able to assess medical conditions of those in custody."

I think it's quite funny that Dawn Walker, who has a law degree, is complaining about jail conditions. Surely she learned about jail and prison conditions while in law school. I don't think she ever qualified as a lawyer, or passed the bar admission exam, but she should be familiar with how the law works in Canada.

I'm surprised that anyone has to ask why Dawn Walker is treated as a woman who has broken the law in two countries. I'm also surprised that one prison cell is more appealing than another.

"When asked about the situation outside court, Dawn Walker’s sister Kathy Walker called the situation “horrible.”

“Why are they treating her like this,” she said."

Apparently Dawn Walker wanted to be transferred to Pine Grove Correctional Centre sooner, which is where she is now.

Two more days to find out whether Dawn Walker, who faked the death of a 7 year old child, is home scotfree. Dawn Walker Dumont tried to destroy the future of a child by having him declared dead when he was still alive - with no living identity after age 7.

Apparently the FSIN does not view this child as a victim.

Dawn Dumont, Dawn Walker, is Metis. The child's father is not indigenous. That puts the child in the 1/4 to 1/8 indigenous, at best.

Does the FSIN protect Metis children whose mothers have tried to erase them from existence?

The anti-colonist story is to stop Indigenous children from being erased.

Who is protecting this almost erased child?

I think that Dumont-Walker will be granted bail, with restrictions. I'm curious whether she will be allowed to travel freely in Canada to, for example, attend the Leacock Humour Fiction gala in Ontario. If so, then she has the same rights as people who are not facing criminal charges in two countries.

"It is up to the Crown prosecutor to show why a person should be required to remain in custody, Peterson said, though there can be exceptions to that rule.

A judge must release a person back into the community after a show-cause hearing unless the Crown can demonstrate that there is a possibility that the accused will not return for their court date, that the accused could be dangerous to the public, or that keeping the accused in jail is necessary to maintain the public’s confidence in the administration of justice.
...

A proposed bail plan for their client will also be presented, Peterson said, usually outlining possible conditions the accused would consent to, and naming a possible surety who agrees to supervise a person released on bail awaiting their trial. The surety is often a family member or close friend."

I think she’ll be granted bail too… and I totally disagree. This is a very, very serious crime and she is not taking it seriously by constantly claiming domestic violence, with no proof, and throwing her ex under the bus.

There's one small detail that might prevent her from being released on bail. There is no information about this, but if she had outstanding warrants in the USA and failed to appear, that will be a strike against her for a bail application in Canada. Any prior instance of ignoring court rulings suggests she could do it again.

Also, her success in deceiving friends and family, obtaining and using a false identity to flee the country, as well as faking death, suggests she could do this again. It seems that Dumont-Walker has all the skills, tools and finances needed to flee the country. In fact, if she has another chance to run, she might succeed next time.

"The motion claimed “no condition or combination of conditions” would reasonably ensure her appearance in court, based on an allegation that she used aliases and “multiple and false identifiers,” as well as outstanding warrants. The motion document was filed on Aug. 8."

The Saskatoon woman accused of kidnapping a child and fleeing to the U.S., covers her face as her supporters help her to a vehicle after she was released on bail from the Provincial Court House in Saskatoon on Sept. 2, 2022.

Her release conditions include an order preventing her from contacting three people. She must also turn over travel documents, such as her passport, to police, is subject to travel restrictions and will have to stay at an approved residence 24 hours a day, except as approved by a probation officer.

The woman’s next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 19.

She's basically under house arrest. She's going to miss the Leacock gala, which means she will be disqualified from the award.

"Walker must pay $10,000, abide by the electronic monitoring program and live at her sister’s house, according to the bail conditions outlined by the judge.

She must also submit her passport to the police she is not allowed to leave her sister's house without specified permission from an officer and is not allowed to leave Saskatchewan."

No contact orders with child and child's father.

"Provincial Court Judge Lua Gibb said Friday the 48-year-old woman, whose name cannot be released due to a publication ban, can be released on $10,000 bail.

The woman must stay at her sister’s house and not have any contact with her son unless the court grants access. And she can’t leave Saskatchewan unless she has permission.

She was expected to be released Friday night after being given an ankle monitor.
...

Evidence presented at the bail hearing is non-public. One of the conditions of the woman’s release is that she has no contact with the boy’s father."

Altogether, bail conditions are:
  • $10,000 payment
  • electronic monitoring (ankle monitor)
  • live at her sister’s house
  • not allowed to leave her sister's house without specified permission
  • submit her passport to the police
  • not allowed to leave Saskatchewan
  • no contact with child
  • no contact with child's father
