[h=1]Toronto doctor's disappearance worries neighbours, friends[/h]
The Toronto Sun has learned the mother of three, a highly accomplished medical doctor, was not at her clinic as of Tuesday and has not made it home to tend to her kids for three days.
“We have been worried since she did not come home on Tuesday,” said a neighbour and family friend. “Her husband was home and her three kids but not her.”
The doctor at the Scarborough Hospital was reported missing to police. But things turned ominous Friday when a forensics van arrived.
“Yellow tape was put up and it was deemed a crime scene,” said a neighbour. “She is loved on the street and people are very upset.”
“Police will use all available modern, investigative techniques to find an answer to this disturbing riddle,” said Crime specialist Ross McLean, a former Toronto Police officer who surveyed the scene. “In addition to the usual forensics that will be conducted inside and outside the house with today’s technology police can triangulate movements of cellphones and help determine where people, and their vehicles, have travelled to.”

The missing doctor’s friends told me <ES, full name redacted> mother told people on the street that she had called police when she noticed that “three carpets” were missing from the home. The same friends were concerned abut the well-being of three children <children's names redacted> “We waited for them to come home from school in case they were faced with this,” said a neighbour. “They will be so upset.”
Meanwhile, sources say ES told several people on the street in conversations Monday that she “had filed divorce papers” and “was in good spirits” because she was “looking toward her new life.”

“It’s different in the sense that both the deceased and the accused are such respected doctors in the community,” Detective Sgt. Steve Ryan said. “It’s a sad case.”

Police have identified <victim's name redacted>, 40, of Toronto, as the deceased person and said she had been reported missing by her mother on Wednesday.
The couple were believed to have been married for over 12 years and had three young children.
“You’ve got three children that are now without their mom and their dad,” Sgt. Ryan said.
The cause of death was blunt force trauma and strangulation which was determined during the post-mortem.

The suspect, identified as Mohammed Shamji, worked as a neurosurgeon at Toronto Western Hospital. Shamji was also employed as a Professor of Surgery at The University of Toronto. A biography posted to the University of Toronto website says that Shamji completed research around the “role of immune system activation in spinal and peripheral nerve disorders and how these potentiate the development of chronic pain.” Shamji had a research laboratory at the Hospital for Sick Children, according to the release.

I don't get it either.....it seems like all these cases are so similar anymore. You file for divorce then end up dead. I guess life isn't considered precious anymore. I'll never understand it either.

Other than to say what a “terrible, terrible tragedy for this family, their children and the whole community” Ryan did not comment on the details on he investigation.

But police sources say it is alleged that after a loud argument, the Scarborough Hospital physician was strangled and struck with a blunt force object while in the garage of the couple’s Verwood Ave. home before her lifeless body was put in a suitcase and transported to York Region where it was dumped near Nashville Rd. and Hwy. 27 in Kleinberg.
Sources say the suitcase belonged to the victim’s mother — the same one that she brought her belongings to Canada in from her native Croatia decades ago.
Police have sealed and cordoned off the large, modern brick home with yellow police tape and forensics plan to be on the scene again Saturday. Sources say the victim’s car is in the garage and her mother told officers and neighbours that there were leaves and mud on the interior.
Friends also said the couple were frequent guests of neighbours for dinner parties and birthday parties with the kids. She, said friends, was also very supportive of her husband’s family, who also live nearby.
But friends and police sources say there had been calls to the police in the past and he was just recently at a medical conference in a hotel where she had taken a room but no one was allowed to know the floor or room number. Police are also investigating a previous complaint she made about her husband and an alleged threat to one of her children when they were living in Ottawa.

It sounds like there was domestic abuse that led to the divorce, the violence didn't just come out of the blue.

The most dangerous time for an abuse victim is when he/she decides to leave, but hasn't gone yet, many abusers cannot tolerate losing control, and worse, being confronted and told they are abusive. He often lashes out as though his own life is being threatened, when it is only his ego under threat.

A very sad case.

in 2014, he posted about his 11 years of "married bliss" to 40-year-old <victim's name redacted>., a family doctor in the city's Scarborough neighbourhood and mother to the couple's three children."She is the moon of my life," he wrote, quoting the fantasy TV series Game of Thrones.
"And you are my Sun and Stars," <victim's name redacted> tweeted back.
But the couple's public persona is at odds with a tragedy that's shaken Ontario's medical community.
On Thursday, <victim's name redacted> body was found in a suitcase near an underpass in Vaughan, Ont. She died from strangulation and blunt-force trauma.
Her husband is charged with first-degree murder in her death and remains in custody following a Saturday court appearance.

Friends and family who spoke to investigators on Monday said <victim's name redacted> was in an abusive relationship with her husband, a source close to the investigation told CTV News Toronto.
The source also said the violence dated back to the beginning of the couple’s 12-year marriage. There was an incident when police were called while they were living in Ottawa, where <victim's name redacted> husband was going to medical school.
<victim's name redacted> was pregnant at the time, according to the source, and her husband allegedly threatened to kill her if she did not have an abortion because he believed it could ruin his career.

http://damontgomery.org/domestic_violence_awareness/
[h=2]Red Flags of Abuse[/h] The following is a list of early warning signs that someone may be abusive. This list was put together by survivors of domestic violence who reflected on the early phases of the battering relationship and identified some of the early warning signs of abusers.
Someone who:

 • Wants to move too quickly into the relationship.
 • Does not honor your boundaries.
 • Is excessively jealous and accuses you of having affairs.
 • Wants to know where you are all of the time and frequently calls, emails and texts you throughout the day.
 • Criticizes you or puts you down; most commonly tells you that you are “crazy,” “stupid” and/or “fat,” or that no one would ever want or love you.
 • Says one thing and does another.
 • Takes no responsibility for their behavior and blames others. Has a history of battering.
 • Blames the entire failure of previous relationships on their partner; for example, “My ex was a total *****.”
 • Grew up in an abusive or violent home.
 • Insists that you stop spending time with your friends or family.
 • Seems “too good to be true.”
 • Insists that you stop participating in leisure interests.
 • Rages out of control and is impulsive.
Pay attention to the “red flags “and trust your instincts. Survivors of domestic violence frequently report that their instincts told them that there was something wrong early on but they disregarded the warning signs and didn’t know that these signs were indicative of an abusive relationship. Always take time to get to know a potential partner and watch for patterns of behavior in a variety of settings. Keeping in touch with your support system and participating in good self-care can lower your risk of being involved in an abusive relationship.

[h=1]The War At Home[/h]“It’s a hidden war and when they call in the troops its already too late.” These are the opening words to a story that takes us into a private battlefield, where thousands of women live in fear in the one place they should feel safe – their home. In a personal form of terrorism, domestic violence killed more Canadian women in a ten-year period than all our troops killed in Afghanistan.

This is such a sad case. Women with abusive husbands are often asked why they don't just leave - well, this is one reason why. You put yourself at greater risk by planning to leave. And how terrible this must be for the children.
