I think it was to intimidate and overpower the person/people she was staying with...and guns not available to them. Only frying pans.

ETA: I think the absence of guns shows these were not high level gangsters. Amateurs, of a sort.

Possibly gangster wannabes? Like I said before in an earlier post they were all like minded (those who participated in this horror) with indications IMO of being psychopaths. I mean look at the risk they took, other people in the home, CCTV everywhere in the modern era (other than rural) witnesses outside as they are fleeing what are they going to go after every single individual who was a witness, they can't because even if they are three there could possibly be more who heard the commotion and are witnesses. So their brazeness says something about their nature as well. That shouldn't be overlooked.

''Now, sources have told the Toronto Sun that her brutal and shocking Jan. 12 kidnapping from a home in Wasaga Beach may be linked to what she knew about a massive stolen vehicle ring.

“It’s not a domestic incident, that’s not what it’s about,” one source alleged. “It’s about stolen trucks being shipped to Africa and the Middle East by a criminal gang.”

''The 37-year-old Iranian immigrant had been hiding out in the summer resort town just weeks after being brutally attacked in a Richmond Hill parking garage''

Cops say the pair were two of three Ontario men charged with stealing about 20 Ford F-150 trucks in Edmonton and environs. They allegedly targeted models from 2017 to 2020 with push-button ignitions. The vehicles start at around $48,000 retail.''

IDK. How could she have known about truck thefts that happened after her kidnapping?

Dec. 20 Attempted abduction in Richmond Hill, police have charged Binner and Singh.

Jan 12 Abduction, LE have charged ex boyfriend Mohammed Lilo.

Late Feb: a dozen trucks stolen in Edmonton

Mar 30, Binner, Singh and another man arrested for truck thefts in Edmonton.

April 14, Singh arrested by Toronto police for Dec assault, warrant issued for Binner.

There's no evidence Lilo, who lives in Montreal, was connected to truck thefts in Edmonton. I think trucks stolen in Edmonton would be taken to Vancouver, rather than Montreal.

There's also no evidence Binner and Singh were involved in the Dec abduction. Having failed the first time, maybe they were replaced by others. IMO, their career in crime has been brief and unsuccessful.

IMO gangster wannabes and the thought that they woul attempt something like this makes them posess some very disturbing qualities & attitudes.

Actually, stolen vehicles from across Canada east of the Rockies, usually head to Montreal instead of Vancouver because of easier access to the market, which tends to be Eastern Africa and the Middle East, rather than Asia.

Not everyone agrees, I guess.
"What happened there in Edmonton more than likely those trucks are gonna be loaded on a railcar and probably they're gonna go to B.C., get loaded on a container vessel and shipped to various different countries overseas."

Unrelated? Noting this vicious attack by 3 men in Brampton, fwiw..

''Publication ban

A publication ban is in place in the case, preventing CBC Toronto from explaining why the justice of the peace in the Ontario Court of Justice refused to release the accused.

The bail hearing was held in French on Aug. 2, 5, 16 and 18. Lilo appeared via video-conference from Penetanguishene, Ont. in a hearing that took more than an hour.

When he heard the decision, Lilo, dressed in an orange prisoner's uniform, appeared disappointed on the screen.

Lilo asked to speak to his lawyer, who was on Zoom from Montreal. Philippe Grenier asked him to be quiet because the hearing had not yet been adjourned.

The accused is expected to return to court via Zoom in Collingwood, Ont. on Oct. 11.

Lilo has been ordered not to contact six other individuals connected to the case.''

Well good to hear this. Ya know, before covid, the police, lawyers and accused would all have been travelling to gather in person at the courthouse for these meetings at considerable expense and a huge waste of time. So this is a positive change.

''York Regional Police have made a second arrest in the violent December 2021 attack on Elnaz Hajtamiri, who was kidnapped weeks later.
On Dec. 20, police say two men attacked Hajtamiri in the underground parking lot of her King William Cres. home in Richmond Hill. The men were masked and beat Hajtamiri about the head with a frying pan, cracking her skull.
The intervention of a passerby caused the assault to end and the attackers fled in a stolen car.
Hajtamiri was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Riyasat Singh, 23, was arrested in April, and a Canada-wide warrant was issued for Harsheep Binner, 24, who police revealed Tuesday had been arrested on Sept. 19.''

Both Brampton men are charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and mischief over $5,000.''

Lilo remains in custody after being denied bail in August.

The investigation into the kidnapping continues and York Regional Police ask anyone with information to call 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7241.''

Well, that is good. Hopefully they throw each other under the bus.

Four distinct events happened that involved Elnaz.

1. She quit her job at an import/export business
2. She broke up with her boyfriend
3. She survived a vicious attack in a parking garage
4. She was abducted by perps dressed as police officers

I believe all these events are related to the first event, Elnaz quitting her job at the import/export business. I don't think it has anything to do with Iran at all. When I go on her ex-boyfriend's FB page (Mohamed Lilo) he doesn't have much on it in terms of personal information but he does have a wealth of info regarding his interests, many that have to do with used vehicles.

I think it's very possible that Elnaz found out that her boyfriend was involved in an international ring of vehicle thefts where the vehicles stolen, mostly from Ontario and Quebec, ended up in west Africa.

I also believe it's not a coincidence that the two men who attacked Elnaz in the underground garage were South Asian. It's a fact that the Punjabi community has a lock on the trucking industry, not only in Ontario, but in most of Canada. So if you are involved in shipping stolen vehicles to Africa you probably can't help but involve the trucking industry run by Punjabis.

According to this Marketplace documentary run on CBC in March 2022 there is very lax oversight in containers leaving the country unlike those containers that enter.

For Marketplace to do an expose on this problem it meant they probably had journalists sniffing around some of these businesses and got a little too close for comfort.

So it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the import/export company Elnaz worked at was involved in illegal activity and she chose to quit her job rather than jeopardize her immigrant status in Canada. However, her quitting probably put a target on her, making her a liability.

Her ex-boyfriend didn't hire a PI because he was offended that a woman had the nerve to end a relationship with him, he hired one to find her so he could ensure she couldn't go to the cops and implicate him in a criminal enterprise. This is my opinion.

I fear that Elnaz is not alive.

''In the depths of that winter evening, the trio — dressed in cop gear — would snatch 37-year-old Elnaz Hajtamiri from her relatives’ home where she was hiding

Destination: Unknown.

That was on Jan. 12, 2022, and almost one year later, there have been arrests but still no sign of the pretty Iranian immigrant who dreamed of opening her own cake business.''

All of those accused so far are considered innocent unless proven guilty.

Hajtamiri’s disappearance remains a missing person/kidnapping probe, Graham said, adding that “it has to be a missing person undertaking” instead of a homicide.

Graham told the Sun in August: “It’s like she has disappeared off the face of the Earth. You do not see this these days. It’s deeply disturbing to me as a police officer. Her family deserves answers.”

Police urge anyone with information to call a dedicated tip line at 1-833-728-3415. Members of the public are also strongly urged to help share previously released social media information and photos of Hajtamiri, using the hashtag “#BringElnazHome.”

''Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reaffirmed his government's commitment to seeking justice for the victims of Flight PS752 on Sunday as he joined Canadians across the country in marking three years since the Iranian military shot the plane down.
Trudeau's remarks came at an often-emotional ceremony in North Toronto, one of several such events taking place in 12 Canadian cities.
Family members who lost loved ones in the crash sobbed, called for justice and fiercely criticized the Iranian regime throughout the Sunday afternoon event. The prime minister, one of several senior dignitaries on hand, followed suit.''

''The Ukraine International Airlines jetliner was bound for Canada via Ukraine and shot down shortly after its takeoff from Tehran in January 2020.''

“One person, Elnaz’s former boyfriend Mohamad Lilo, has been charged and arrested with her kidnapping, but we are still actively looking for the three black men dressed in police gear,” Graham said.''

“More importantly, we want to locate Elnaz and bring her home to her family.”

Graham said OPP detectives will provide an update for the media on Thursday, providing a number of new details.''

''There has been something of a framework and clues in the investigation almost from the minute Hajtamiri was snatched.''

''In that vacuum rose speculation: Was she grabbed for personal reasons? A jealous ex-boyfriend carrying a twisted torch? Drugs? Gambling? Or was it political, something ugly from the old country rearing its head here? ''

''Enter Hajtamiri’s ex-boyfriend, Lilo, of Montreal. The pair had split up in the early fall and Lilo, well, apparently didn’t take the decoupling particularly well.''

“We’re aware of a number of different reasons and scenarios, but the reality is that right now we don’t know what the motive was for the abduction,” he said.

However, ex-boyfriend Lilo has not been charged — or implicated — in the stolen truck ring. His lawyer has said his client planned to plead not guilty.

All of those accused so far are considered innocent unless proven guilty.''
