For Nancy and Bob Henrickson, Christmas this year was a subdued affair, missing a crucial piece: The joyous presence of their daughter Jodi, who vanished without a trace on Bowen Island six months ago.
With their two sons, the Squamish couple did what they've always done on the holidays. They trimmed the tree, baked cookies, put together Christmas puzzles.
But a place setting was absent from the Christmas table, and gifts for the bubbly 17-year-old remained unopened.
"Christmas is going to be a little blue," said Bob earlier this week from their Brackendale home. "Usually we have Jodi running around, bobbing, giggling, screaming. She loves Christmas."
Halloween used to be Jodi's favourite holiday, recalled Nancy, but a couple years ago, she switched to liking Christmas best.
"Jodi is very joyful and well-loved by our family. We're going to miss her this Christmas," she said.
