If they were given rides and didn't murder the drivers, that would imply these two have an agenda aside from just killing. Either they're heading somewhere or there's something else equally as important they want to accomplish.

It may have been out of practicality.

They wanted to maintain their lead on law enforcement, and had a destination in mind.

Kill the driver, and you run the risk of a very quick discovery.

The family thing is interesting.

Historically, people like this will head to an area where they have connections, or atleast some familiarity.

They’ll probably need help at some point, and may try and reach out to someone they know.

In a case like this, IMO it would be morally reprehensible for anyone, and that includes family members, not to report any contact these two made with them.

The man who was called in to secure the scene until investigators arrived mentioned that he only noticed a small mark on Fowler other than it didn’t sound like there was obvious injury to them.
I have the feeling these murders were done with a 22 rifle, taken from their own homes.I hope they have ran out of ammo...........moo

I read that because of their injuries that there's no way that they could have an open casket at their funerals. So whatever that means don't know??

Just trying to get in their heads. You kill a couple at night on a deserted highway, as well as another man,in order to switch vehicles. Why burn your vehicle? You have no witnesses , all your gear is in your camper. Why switch vehicles at all?Just carry on and blend in the next day with all the other traffic ,in another location. No one would suspect them or have any reason to be looking for them.To take the RAV4 was not necessary and will lead to them being caught sooner.Do I make any sense?
I’ve been trying to figure this one out too. I keep coming back to “they knew what they had done.”

They may not have been suspects but they knew what they did and were likely jittery and jumping at every shadow afterwards. And with those not-fully developed frontal lobes hit upon this idea of burning the camper and fleeing eastwards.

I have to think they grabbed LD’s vehicle before they burned the camper, but maybe not...maybe that was going to be their “flight into the forest” location and stumbled into LD...

Thanks very much for the insight. I have a question about the gun or guns. It’s possible that one or both of them had a license, although in Bryer’s case if he had one he managed to get it without his father knowing. It’s also possible, at least in McLeod’s case, that he got/took a gun from a relative.

But here’s my question, if you have a feel for the answer. How easy or hard is it for kids like this in that area to purchase a stolen gun and ammunition?
Not that easy in my opinion. First they would have to have connections. Who would they approach? Second, they couldnt do it without raising suspicion.

Btw, the police spokeswoman on CBC this evening said while anything is possible, they have no indication that the two have had any help along the way.

He's 18. He's a kid. He was probably like "Awesome...".
The fact he thinks Gopnik Rap is cool and liked some relics at a shop does not a neo-nazi make.

His father needs to shut up and stop seeking attention from the idiotic Canadian media.
No one should take this idiot's words seriously. He'll say anything as long as the media pays him attention.
I don't see it as 'seeking attention'. I think he's responding to the stories the media are publishing about his son, he's upset their painting him as some Neo-Nazi, when the reality was he was just a dumb kid who hadn't grown up enough to get a real life.

Locals/Canadians/etc, what is the possibility that they’ve invaded a remote house and have the inhabitant(s) held? I know there’s Gillam and then the reserve further north where the rav4 was found, but is there much in the way of single houses?

Unlikely, everyone knows their neighbours, according to Mayor and Fox Lake Chief. But there are camps and hydro buildings.

Of course they may have some relative or acquaintance in the area.

So whatever that means don't know??

lucas was shot in the gut which is close to instant death if you can't get help and Chynna was shot through the jaw through the side of her face

not confirmed but i gleaned this from interviews the road worker did the shot to Chynna's face is probably why they can't have an open casket but it might be possible for lucas

I'm baffled by this as well.

In my opinion, the person in this photo does not look 18 or 19. He looks to be about 25-30

Good work Pingtherouter, I have been curious about the image of this guy rjght from the start as I posted in Thread # 1. I truly believe BS & KM may have encountered Lucas and Chynna at the gas station in Ft. Nelson.

There is also a severe thunderstorm predicted for Gillam this afternoon. If they are in the woods they are in for quite the day.

edit: 4 days of rain predicted.

Nothing like standing outside on a cold day having your first shower for a week. The bugs will have a field day if they're active in the rain.

If these guys formed this plan in Port Alberni, I don’t understand why they didn’t just start killing people on Vancouver Island. They could have used the 2002 Washington DC case, about which much has been written, as a model. With no motive, and a decent gun, they would have had a good chance of getting away with it, at least for a time.

Too close to home for some reason? OK, the Vancouver area. Why go way up north on little traveled roads that make it more difficult, draining resources for one thing, and make it much harder to escape?

Or did this idea get hatched out of the blue on a legitimate job hunting trip? Does that make sense given that Bryer gave his father Alberta, not the Yukon, as his destination?

There’s a lot missing to this puzzle.

They like to think they are writing their own script, they don't want to copy cat anyone.

Phase 1 of this adventure: They didn't exactly plan to be spree killers, they joked about it (but I believe one of them had a plan all along). However, they planned as if they were spree killers. In adolescents, this is not really considered abnormal thinking or "play" but it can deepen.

Phase 2: They planned an actual crime (with out much real attention to detail). They were going to rob someone with camping supplies, probably targeted lonely turn-outs, found the couple in the van. One of them opened fire - for thrills, to do it, to be really badass, to impress his friend, to be as crazy as possible. (Watch something like Murder Mountain for a look at people who drift off in this outlaw direction - although in that film, the badasses are ones who managed to survive their teens by quite a bit).

Phase 3. From that point on, they knew they were "dead men" and had now entered a new reality, similar to leveling up in a game. Whether they have the survival skills to stay alive off the grid...as opposed to just dying out in the north...we may not know for a while.

One of them might break off from the other. They may get a second wind (but I'm guessing that the "high" of their initial spree has left them exhausted, the bugs are getting to them, not having showers/toilets - and not having computer access - is all getting to them. If they remain relatively exhausted and lost, that may become their new "survival gaming."

Of course.

Not only that, but there’s no telling what these two will do.

Even family and friends might not necessarily be safe.

I do think they’re likely cornered though, and contained to an area that they cannot easily escape.

I don't think there was ever a plan. I think they quit their wal-mart jobs and got a half-formulated notion to go on a road trip and look for work "up north" or in Alberta. I live in the next community over from Port Alberni in Coombs and there are a lot of kids that age around here that get the same idea. I think they made there way up there and got disillusioned as the reality of it started setting in. I think coming back down they ran into the broken down van and possibly saw the couple sitting outside waiting for their engine to cool down and unflood. Everyone is close to the same age and it could have been a situation where they had a beer, smoked some weed, socialized and then all moved into the van and things went terribly, terribly south. The back window being blown out from the inside means there had to be a horrific struggle inside. From there on it was crazy surreal panic mode (again all of this is just conjecture on my part). The killing of that poor soul with the rav4 was a crime of opportunity. Poor guy -wrong place at the wrong time. From there on i believe the burning of the vehicles was a combo of sheer adrenaline, recklessness and excitement. I think at this point the cross canada trip just becomes an avenue of pointing themselves in a direction and going for broke. They know its all over for them. These guys literally had to drive past our farm off of highway 4 in port alberni to get to the ferry. I realize its just me interjecting my own fears into this terrible story but there is that little part of your brain that goes - what if they did start this killing spree close to home on vancouver island. I have sociable friendly kids live at home that are around LF and CD"s age. This is just a horrifying tragedy

Well your theory pretty much coincides with mine.
I'm not really sure they would not purposely hunting people to kill. I think *advertiser censored* happened.... More *advertiser censored* happen.... they panic and and now they're in this situation.

Modern Nazi youth love Russia AND Hitler AND Nordic legends like Odin. Hitler worked with Turks and Arabs, but modern Nazi youth hate all Muslims. It is complex, and driven by social media.

Yes, true. There are some aspects of this involved in the Pike County, OH murders. The young (mid 20's) Wagner brothers and their father, who were the killers of 8 members of the Rhoden family, have those tattoos, etc. It's big in online games, music, movies, etc. Very violent.

I don't remember road worker describing the injuries to the couple during an interview.
