That is exactly what they area saying, that they cannot even confirm that anyone was in the area near the dump - no tracks, no evidence of camping, no discarded items, no matted down grass - nothing.
If anyone knows about muskeg, swamplands, etc etc - the fact is you can step in that 'mud' and your footprints will disappear in less than 5 minutes.

I think that the search has gone cold and that nothing will happen, apart from routine search, until, and if, these guys surface in a way that is verifiable.

Yup. If they’re alive, they have to emerge at some point.

There’s no telling when, or at this point, where.

This could go on a while.

I wonder why if it was NOT them, whoever was at the dump that day would not come forward and say “sorry you were mistaken, that was me”. Seems odd that no one has come forward to admit they were at the dump.

Per eyewitness accounts, they did run when spotted, so they may have been scared of being caught there in the first place. Of course they should come forward, but I can understand why someone might be hesitant to tell LE that they were (unintentionally) responsible for bringing out massive amounts of people and resources away from where BS and KM might actually be, all because they were rummaging around in waste and ran away when someone saw. Now that police are leaving the area, they may not see the point in letting LE know.

Beyond that, there are many reasons why people might not come forward, including not being up to date with the news or being involved in something they don't want police to know about.

I wonder what the protocol is for searches when you lose track of someone. Going back to Gillam seems odd.
I know everyone, including the RCMP are feeling deflated, but maybe they need to reach out more to our Military. I believe our CF members would have these two by now just based on logistics. IMHO.

I am surprised how many people are talking about teenagers not being able to read maps! Most teens I know are excellent map readers and navigators and many got these skills from gaming! Mobile phone apps using GPS satellites are free and an excellent tool. I have travelled to remote places around the world and been able to map my path and measure and record distances very accurately. As others have said, power banks can give numerous recharges and if a phone is only used occassionally it can last some time. (If it wasn't burnt in the original burnt out car!). I am assuming that Canada would also have GPS satellites somewhere in the sky over there, since they can even be accessed from Mount Everest!

They were never actually seen in Gillam. They were seen in Split Lake and their RAV4 was found beyond Bird Reserve.

I think they went back from Bird Reserve area towards Ilford, via the hydro corridor, trails, and even the train track. If they were in York Landing at all, they may have followed the trail from Ilford.

You have to know where to look first.

Those aircraft are helpful, but you still need a general location.

There’s a lot of reasons why these guys could still be eluding capture.

Because that’s what the father claimed B believed he was.

“He thought he was Russian.”

But why just only that part? You took it out of context. The mother raised him that he was Russian, so of course he believed he was Russian. The mother, like many people, was unwilling or unable to distinguish between Russian and Ukrainian.

Why is that one particular part so relevant? Bryer had posts online showing he like Nazis, but the father says he didn't. The father isn't particularly reliable (and, IMO, may well have represented himself as Russian when he wished to - he's now involved with the other side of the civil war in Ukraine, or seems to say he is).

The part about not being a Neo-Nazi is just as much a fact stated by the father...

Per eyewitness accounts, they did run when spotted

There is no eyewitness account saying that. There is Mr. Flavel, who personally saw nothing, and who wasn’t even at York Landing, telling the press that that’s what two of his members saw. The brief video interview of one of those members does not say that, and differs in other respects from Mr. Flavel’s version of events.

One of the remarkable things is that nobody, including Mr. Flavel, says that the people seen at the dump were white. They could just as easily have been Métis, or indeed Indian.

Yes, if their phone is still charged (and now they have those back-up thingies, which is totally possible - mine keeps my phone charged for brief daily use while traveling for about 2 weeks)...then GPS would be the one thing they'd be most likely to be able to use (downloaded map and all from before).

So...that's direct to satellite and not through a tower, right? Someone please explain (again) how the GPS differs from using Cellular network.

PS. I'm the one who said that my teenage-24 year old students have a rough time with paper maps and figuring things out without that blue dot showing them where they are - but they catch on after a couple of weeks of practice.

RCMP has specially trained members for tracking down fugitives. Canadian Forces don't really, they are trained for other skills.

Yes, you get coordinates via GPS satellites. You'd want an offline map of course, but there are plenty of those.

Very true but whatever the RCMP are doing thus far, is not working. They are missing something. Something critical.

Maybe not.

I listened to the brief interview with Terry "Mantracker" Grant, who thought (given his limited knowledge of the suspects and the terrain) that they would last a week, max. It's possible that they didn't make it at all. If they are dead, unless they are close to a road or in an area used for hunting, it's possible that they will never be found.

I thought there was two sightings in gillam?
