Following up on leads from the winter? Great!

That's ALOT of LE!

One camper, who did not want to be identified, tells us the large police presence in the area included about 50 RCMP officers, a couple quads, and police dogs.

"There was the big tactical unit, a smaller tactical unit with a trailer and 15 to 20 vehicles. They were all over ...they were obviously looking for something," he says.

Officers told him that they were following up on leads from the winter, and going into sites they couldn't access when the snow was on the ground.

Vader slated to appear in Edson court in connection with McCann deaths
Travis Edward Vader is expected to appear in court this morning in Edson to face two charges of first-degree murder in connection with the disappearance of elderly St. Albert couple Lyle and Marie McCann.
Vader, 40, was first identified as a “person of interest” soon after Lyle, 78, and Marie, 77, vanished in July 2010. He officially became a suspect early that fall, and was charged in April 2012 after being arrested at the Edmonton Remand Centre, where he was being held on unrelated charges.

Travis Edward Vader did not enter a plea during a Tuesday morning court appearance in connection to charges of murdering elderly St. Albert couple Lyle and Marie McCann.

Vader, 40, was first identified as a “person of interest” soon after Lyle, 78, and Marie, 77, vanished in July 2010. He officially became a suspect early that fall, and was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in April 2012 after being arrested at the Edmonton Remand Centre, where he was being held on unrelated charges.

The case will return to the Edson courthouse on Aug. 21. Vader has reserved his plea several times, a common practice in the early stages of a prosecution.

The dates are confusing to me since this is already November but nevertheless, according to your link I assume the next date will be -

The pre-trial meeting is set to continue on Dec. 14 in the judge’s chambers at 8:30 a.m.

I just wish they could be found before then.

I had to look twice at the dates as well, however, this will take place next year in 2013

Charges stayed against Travis Vader in McCann double murder case

The case against Travis Vader for the killings of missing St. Albert, Alta., couple Lyle and Marie McCann crumbled Wednesday morning as Crown prosecutors stayed the murder charges six weeks before the trial.

A stay of proceedings means the Crown has a year to bring the charges back to court, if they choose. However, this rarely happens.

Lyle McCann, 78, and his wife, Marie, 77, were last seen on the morning of July 3, 2010, buying gas at a local station. Two days later, their motorhome was found engulfed in flames near a campground, but the bodies of the couple have never been found.

They were headed to B.C. to meet their daughter.

Damn, damn, damn!

I don't want any innocent person inappropriately accused. I don't know whether this guy did it , but what I do know is that this doesn't bring us any closer to solving this case.

How could this lovely couple be killed so brutally?

When I saw this thread on the first page again, I thought maybe they had been found.
So much for wishing he would confess and tell where he hid their bodies.

Does this mean if they can't find the evidence they need within this next year, he cannot be charged even if there is a break in the case two years down the road? Almost like our double jeopardy law?
