My sources say the police have been unusually revolted by what they've uncovered in the collective investigations and they knew a real sicko was involved in all these cases. One source says the roadblock on Hwy 37 enabled them to match tread patterns found on Cary Road and in Brighton with the Williams vehicle. They had not previously interrogated Williams despite having heavily interrogated his next door neighbour on Cosy Cove Lane. I'm from the area and other sources here say there was DNA from the September abductions and it was matched to DNA found on Lloyd and it looks like this DNA was matched against Williams' DNA in the DND DNA bank without Williams' knowledge over the weekend. I've found information in links at www.newswatchcanada.ca to be very helpful in fitting pieces together. Clearly, the risk was great to all women if this is the guilty party and had he stayed on the loose... Although the authorities are sure they have the right person, I would still urge caution.

Helicopters from CFB Trenton searched for Jessica, but found nothing. See page 3:

I wonder if the Military Police were doing more than assisting other police forces. Could they have led this investigation?

Looks like there's a good chance they were involved in the investigation at that point, I think I read that it was Feb 4th that Williams was stopped on the highway.

Here's a really good article that tells about his past. Shocking to see that he only assumed command of CFB Trenton last July and look at what he's done since then! Can't believe that he hasn't committed any offenses before.

If they indeed had his DNA in the DNA bank, then why couldn't they have ran it and matched the DNA found on Comeau before another girl was murdered? That seems ridiculous.

Was he actually stopped, or did they get info from someone else. I can't find an article
that says he went through the road block.

He probably has, they will look into everywhere he has been stationed.

This statement seems absolutely RIDICULOUS.
And if anyone could help me out to see if Comeau even had an autopsy, or any evidence, or MOs or anything that police suggested against her case, please do? I never saw a poster or a newsflash with her murder, and it seems like the LE never followed through with her case. I am getting a bit angry!

Does this not seem fishy? A military worker, hush hush. Usually with anyone's murder they release information to the public saying he is still on the loose. It's almost like they knew something was up.

Although I appreciate your urge for caution, but in reality this is not only a high profile case but a very high profile person was arrested. I am willing to bet it is a slam dunk on whatever the evidence they have. This was a national case to begin with, there would not be an arrest without all the i's & t's dotted JMHO.

I've done no research yet into the Comeau case, but there is no way that an autopsy was not done. It's mandatory practice in all cases of suspicious deaths and when someone is obviously murdered, it would be automatic. Remember that LE reveals as little about untried cases as absolutely possible in order to protect the integrity of the investigation. Breathe, PJ. :)

Just really irks me that they said the public shouldn't be concerned with their safety- but another girl dies in the hands of this corporal.
Sickening!

I'd guess it's because: a) he wasn't a suspect until Feb 4th b) they didn't use the DND DNA data bank c) incomplete police work, or a combination of all three. When the puzzle pieces are put together, it's always frustrating to see the pattern that was missed. I also don't know how easy DNA matches are and how easy it is to access the DND DNA bank. Some media are reporting that DND in Ottawa co-operated very quickly on a need-to-know basis in the hush-hush investigation which began after the tire tread match on Thursday... There are many DNA databases. The DND database is used to identify deceased members of the Armed Forces, is probably segregated based on original postings, and isn't usually checked in criminal cases.

In addition, it could be they didn't have Comeau case DNA, only tread marks. Or were misled by some evidence. Given that the Tweed torture cases also involved photography I think it's reasonable to presume with the examination of the Williams house and computers there may be direct evidence, perhaps from all the cases. Sick *advertiser censored*...

Williams came to his present post in July.
Two home invasions, sexual assaults in September.
Ms. Comeau murdered in November.
Jessica Lloyd murdered in January.
Surely looks like a pattern to me.
Textbook crazy and I'm sure they will find more victims wherever he has been posted.
Scary.....

Thank you for the clarification. But another question for you- if they had the tire treads from the assaults in the fall, and then treads from the Comeau case- would that not have been sufficient? I guess I can't really ask you that, I would have to ask the LE... The whole situation is infuriating. I have so many questions

Has some very interesting information. Apparently one of the assaults of the previous summer took place on their street. Police took the next door neighbor in for questioning, found nothing.

He said Williams moved in about five years ago. He said he knows Williams only in passing.

“He's kind of a loner. Does his own thing. I bet you I haven't had 20 conversations more than two minutes long with him,” said Jones.

He said he offered his neighbour tools and help with tasks around the house, but Williams always declined.

Jones said Williams seemed to keep a very busy schedule.

“This guy comes in in the dark and leaves in the dark,” said Jones. “Never see him.”

“I figured, 'Well, that guy's a busy man ‹ base commander and all.'”

http://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2010/02/08/12793191.html

One would imagine being a base commander as well as a serial killer keeps one pretty busy.

So he's only been stationed as commander there since last July, but has owned a home there for 5 yrs. Could be he spent a lot of time flying in and out of the base.

Something about poor Jessica Lloyd's disappearance caused LE to link it to the sexual assaults in Tweed. They set up the roadblock in the area on Feb. 4, talked to him then. According to the neighbor, the police interviewed Williams and his wife on Sunday, Feb. 7, and found Lloyd's body the next day Feb. 8. Assume Williams told them where it was, off Cary Road, a few miles east of Williams' home.

I believe the incidents listed since September are just the tip of the iceberg. Once the detectives and military personnel do more digging they will surely be able to tie him to other crimes in Canada and Overseas.

My family members (retired) who know this person are absolutely horrified at the things he's been accused of and are disgusted (and embarrassed) to even admit they know him on a professional basis. What a disgrace.

Torture? Is this your word or has it been used by LE or the media?

I don't understand. Sufficient for what? If they had them from two crime scenes (or even three if they found them on Jessica's property), LE could connect the crimes but they still wouldn't have a comparison to a suspect's vehicle until they actually had a suspect. Which is presumably what happened on February 4th when they stopped RW on the highway. After that, it was a question of gathering further evidence sufficient for an arrest.

He came within inches of Queen Elizabeth, as seen in a photo in the base newsletter. I wonder if the diplomatic hotlines are ringing.

This trail could lead all over the world.

It has now been reported by numerous media outlets that the police were checking tire treads in a roadside check stop. That is how they found Williams.
