BBM - I don't have any problem accusing her - have always thought Jeanette is responsible for her daughters disappearance - likely the night before. Jmo.
I've wondered about the mother as well. Did her voice sound the same as her daughter's? My kids have friends and I can't always tell them apart from their parents over the phone. I have wondered if J.M the little friend she was to meet with actually talked to Jeanette and made the plan to swim with her, thinking it was Nicole? Meanwhile, maybe Nicole was already gone? Shuffled away to who knows where, with who knows who or why? :(

I just don't get how the heck Jeanette didn't get alarmed when she was told at 11:30 that Nicole hadn't met her friend, or when the other kid told her at 3pm that Nicole hadn't been seen? How the heck does she wait to call police til later like around 6pm?? How, after she lost her older son to HIS father years before Nicole vanished did she just not think anything was wrong??!

I also can't help but notice that Nicole is NOT mentioned in Jeanette's obit (2007), but she IS mentioned in her half brother's obit (2013). Only by name, there is no indication that Nicole is the subject of a missing person investigation, but at least her name is mentioned.

Interesting to note that in this article, police had searched an area and found the following items: black jacket and trousers in a garbage bag, along with a newspaper dated the day after Nicole vanished. The search took place in November 1985 - a few months after Nicole vanished. I wonder if the police have ever had those items DNA tested and if so, what if anything did the tests reveal? Would they / have they considered using ancestry DNA matching like they've done to help further other such cases such as that of the Green River Killer? I'd be all over that right now if I were working this case and had those items in evidence somewhere!!

BBM - exactly imo.

I don't know the timing regarding when the swim date was set up - have always thought it was prior to the day NM went missing. The friend spoke to 'someone' through the intercom in the lobby and the residence the day NM went missing. Imo that someone was Jeanette, not Nicole.

Another thing has me looking at Jeanette - why did she send Nicole down to get the mail, from the penthouse, before Nicole went on her swim date, knowing Nicole had to come back up the elevator then go back down. Who does that? What was so important about the mail that day? Imo it was to say 'see, Nicole was here and did normal everyday things'. The key here imo, did any of the mothers that dropped off their children that day actually see Nicole? Have looked for that with no success.

The only thing I found that *suggests* Nicole was seen in the home that day was the article that indicates that another child in Jeanette's care had gone to join Nicole and her friend then returned to the apartment at 3pm and told Jeanette that Nicole was nowhere to be found. What we're not told though is how old that child was at the time, or what time he arrived at the apartment for daycare. We're not told either what time he was picked up or by whom. All we know from the articles I cited above is that at 3pm a boy reported to Jeanette Nicole wasn't outside, and that Jeanette sent him to look again. Another article also cited above indicates that at 3pm, Jeanette called the parents of Nicole's friend and learned then that they had not seen Nicole all day. I'd like to know: when was the last time the friend SAW Nicole? That should have been an easy question to answer even for a 9yr old at the time. I'd like to know as well, whether anyone SAW Nicole get the mail that day? It was the superintendent's wife that eventually called police... but not til later in the evening. :( So much time when no one who should have been was worried about where this child was!!

Ok Sleuthers - if you were an investigator, and you were going to hit this case right now, where would you begin? I'd actually like to get access to police records on this matter - they interviewed 6000 people according to one article I read (Toronto Star, but I didn't note the date / page). I'd like to get fresh eyes on this case (and several other unsolved missing persons cases) and see what a collective hive mind could come up with! The police are great - no doubt they've worked super hard on this and all other cases, but the secrecy is serving NO ONE! So far no one has found the child, or any viable suspects. How could we begin to go about getting the records unsealed? Surely there must be a way? The current system does NOT work for victims! It only serves to continue to hide the offenders.

Snipped for focus...

Personally, I would re-interview any and all witnesses, neighbors, family, etc that are still alive and able. I would compare to old reports, scale through the police files with virgin eyes, like you stated. I also want to walk the scene, there at and around the complex. MOO

I wonder how much the scene has changed between then and now? I wonder when the last time fresh eyes reviewed the entire file and made detailed notes as they went along? I wonder too - do police have a suspect and just can't prove a link for some reason?

Here's an interesting newspaper article that indicates that Nicole was last seen on a carousel at the building (I'm assuming its one of those park set things that kids stand or sit on and it spins around).... It also expands a bit on other info I've read in the Toronto Star which indicated that Jeanette had recently taught Nicole how to dial long distance - interesting how she is quoted in this one...

Still bothered by that last article I posted last night... Jeanette taught Nicole how to dial long distance, "in case she was ever kidnapped"? (Jeanette, quoted in the Edmonton Journal, August 1, 1985, p. 55).

1. Nicole and mom watched a show about a kidnapped person a week before Nicole vanishes.
2. Mom teaches the kid to dial long distance after watching a show on tv with Nicole, "in case she was ever kidnapped".
3. Nicole had written in a notebook that she was going to disappear (we aren't told what else, if anything else was written). But why would she write that? Did she write that BEFORE or AFTER she saw the tv show with her mother about a kidnapped person? What the heck show did they watch together anyhow?
4. Mom didn't bother to get worried when the friend said Nicole hadn't arrived in the lobby, and she didn't seem* worried when another child told her Nicole hadn't been seen all day, but she did call JP's parents to ask if they'd seen Nicole (they hadn't), but she STILL doesn't get worried enough to call police til sometime around 6pm??

I mean... is that a lot of coincidences or is there more to this story that we just don't know? I so want to interview people who were in / around the building that summer!!

Lengthy article.

MANDEL: After 35 years, still no sign of Nicole Morin
''“I’m going to disappear.”
— Nicole Morin

''As they left the barn after feeding their horses, Billy Jo Player and her mom suddenly heard high-pitched screams coming from the woods.

A little girl, sounding not much younger than she was, was pleading for her life. “Stop. Please. You’re hurting me.”.

And then silence. “Oh my God,” her mother said. “It’s that little girl who was taken from Toronto.”

Thirty-five years have passed since that day. Player is now 46, the family’s rural property off Horseshoe Valley Rd. has long since been sold and her mom is gone.''

"After all these years, Sutton hopes she’ll be able to provide Morin with the answers he’s been seeking.

Even someone reading this story and remembering a detail or having a twinge of conscience could be the key, she says.

“Working on a case like this for so long, you can’t help but personalize it. I am hopeful. I would have to be hopeful to put this much energy into this case.

“It’s day by day and tip by tip. ”

''SEARED-IN MEMORY
It was a day or two after Nicole vanished and Billy Jo Taylor’s mother called the local OPP to tell them of the piercing screams she and her daughter had just heard in the woods.

Two more neighbours had made similar reports as well.''

I always have wondered if Christine Jessup and Nicole were taken by the same person. Toronto and the GTA had a period of time were there were a lot of abduction and child murders, and I wouldn't be supprised if one person was responsible.

35th Anniversary of Missing Person case,
Eight year-old girl missing since 1985,
Nicole Morin

Toronto Police Service :: News Release #47717
''22 Division
416-808-2200
Case #: 1985-315495
Commemorating 35 years since the disappearance of then eight-year-old Nicole Morin,
the Toronto Police Service is continuing to appeal for information from the public.

On Tuesday, July 30, 1985, at approximately 11 a.m., it is reported that Nicole left her apartment located on the top floor of 627 The West Mall Etobicoke, and was never seen again. She was just eight years old at the time and would be 43 now.

Over the years, there have been several tips from community members near and far as well as various media releases. Yet police have been unable to bring this investigation to a conclusion and it is still unknown what exactly happened that day.

Nicole was described as white, 4'0", 55 lbs., with straight shoulder-length brown hair, brown eyes, and had a birth mark on her right upper forehead. In 2019, an updated artist’s rendition was released by Toronto Police to show what she could look like today in the hope someone recognized her.

Today, we ask the community to help us try and answer the question as to what happened to Nicole and provide a conclusion for her family and friends.

Riddle me this:

If you look at the obit for Jeanette Morin, who died in 2007, Nicole is NOT mentioned. The obit mentions her son from a prior relationship who was several years older than Nicole and who according to the news article I linked in my last post, was taken away from Jeanette and raised by his father. Jeanette’s obit indicates she will be missed by THREE unnamed grandchildren.

If you look at the obit for her son (he died AFTER Jeanette in 2013), it states Nicole as his sister. It also names his TWO daughters.

This point begs the question: who is the third grandchild mentioned in Jeanette’s obit??? Did she have another child of her own with someone who went on to have a child before Jeanette died (so as to be mentioned in her obit?). Who is this third mystery grandkid!? This seems an unlikely error to me. And further, the son named one of his kids after his mother so surely he would have known how many grandchildren she actually had if* he wrote or was consulted about the obit for her???

I’m the friend from Amherst ! It’s all so strange :-( I will not rest to I dig all avenues xo

Welcome aboard!

I've always wanted to ask you, how sure are you that Nicole was your friend in Amherstberg? Is there any chance a kid you knew shared her first and last name, but wasn't intact, the Nicole in question?

2. If you're 100% sure, with respect, how are you sure? You must have been very little at the time, and I'm wondering if you've ever confirmed your suspicion?
3. If the missing girl was actually out there at some point before she was abducted.... why hasn't this been mentioned in media / by police (or has it and I just missed it along the way?

Many thanks in advance.

As we all learned today, Calvin Hoover killed Christine Jessop in October 1984. Nicole went missing in 1985. It was reported that on the day she went missing, a white blonde woman was seen hanging around with a clipboard on Nicole’s floor of her apartment building. I wonder if anyone knows what Heather Hoover, Calvin’s wife, looked like back then.
