you know the young man Sebastian slader was last seen a day before sb was last seen. that's a tight time frame.

Are there any locals that can share details about the area? Is it a nice neighborhood?

I personally don't think this case is a random event because of the neighborhood she lived in. Lots of young, artsy people live in the fringe neighborhoods.

If foul play is involved, it might be in relation to her husband or if not him, someone who maybe frequents, lives, or works in the neighborhood. They might have become acquainted or friendly with her in passing or if she was a creature of habit, maybe this person ran into her often and developed a fixation as she's quite striking.

Of course, this is only one of my thoughts and opinion. I've also thought maybe a bizarre accident happened and no foul play is involved. I'm not stuck stuck on a solid idea at this point, keeping an open mind.

You must be psychic Stan, I was just going to post a link to CPS's Twitter that tweets all the calls/issues they have (and there's LOTS) and I noticed Sebastian's name in there frequently. Haven't read any details about him, but will check it out now that you mentioned it.

I lived in Ramsey in 2004. We lived in a rental and yes, it was a more low income neighborhood and I never met any neighbors. Nobody walked around at night.

I lived there during the time the beltline rapist was active and was followed by a black van which matched the description. I'll never forget it. I was walking alone in broad daylight and this van followed me to 711 and waited out front.

He sat in the van just watching! I was scared and eventually, I came out and ran to a nearby park (I didn't want him following me home) and this van circled the park as I sat on a swing, terrified. I got up and ran back to the 711. I had to ask a man with his dog to walk me home and this van took off. I did call crime stoppers. Never heard back from them.

Anyway, I also had a bad encounter with a man I met in a bar in the neighborhood. Can't remember the name of the establishment but I believe it was in a hotel.

Yep, lots of shady people there. Maybe it's changed. The area of town over, Inglewood, was one of the worst--or so I heard.

Thanks for the info about the neighborhood and sharing your story, that is terrifying!

There seems to be many missing people here lately. One might ask if there is a connection?

I'm shocked at the crime in Calgary for some reason. I know all big cities have crime, I lived in Van for years, but I don't recall it being like it is in Calgary these days!

I guess I equate Vancouver with more gang/drug crimes and it seems more related to a certain crowd, but lately what I hear about Calgary seems a little more all over the map in terms of who and what for crime. I consider myself an Albertan at heart since I was born there and grew up there (close to Calgary) and even think about moving back sometimes, but not sure what's worse Vancouver or Calgary they're both getting so bad! I'll stay on my island for now ;)

Yes, I was *assuming* she was in Calgary when SB wrote about the brakes.. and was further assuming that's why she hadn't taken her vehicle with her when she *left*. So yes, it is quite possible that she was out of town at the time, and they were subsequently repaired at which later time she came home. So.. even stranger then, that she didn't take her car with her when she left sometime after 12;30am on the Thursday.

I can think of so many things they could have been having conflicts about! No shortage there! What do they say.. the 3 biggest things to fight about: money, sex, and inlaws?

Was she in Calgary when she mentioned problems with the brakes? The trip to Edmonton is 3 hours, and we heard from her sister that she spent time with friends in Edmonton (press conference). With the audition, and time with friends, it sounds like she drove up on Tuesday, maybe went out with friends Tuesday night, had brake trouble in Edmonton, presumably fixed the brakes (she couldn't safely make the three hour drive home without brakes), drove home on Wednesday evening - arriving around 9. That is, there's hardly enough time in one day to spend six hours driving to and from Edmonton, having an audition, visiting with friends and being home at 9PM. Perhaps Shannon paid for the brakes on a shared visa that is in her husband's name ... perhaps spending was a sore point given that they are "estranged" while living together and Shannon's income may be minimal. That could certainly lead to a conflict that might erupt into a serious problem.

Calgary is a sprawl trying to urbanise far too late in the game, but overall it is still a pretty safe place to live

Calgary has had enormous growth. Rumour has it that we have jobs, so the city has seen a plethora of new residents. It seems crime has followed, which is natural I suppose.

From over here in ON, I was thinking the same thing.. man, there seems to be an awful lot of people go missing in and around Calgary, wonder why??
I honestly don't have a clue. All of the latest three missing persons are between 19 and 25, none have an obvious reason for going missing and all three seem to have vanished. The two men were both dropped off before going missing and it is unclear if SB was last seen in her home or before she left her home. If it turns out that she was last seen before she left the house, there is an eerie similarity that all three vanished from a Calgary street.

Is it a case of more missing people, or is it social media and the power of instant communication on a large scale...

... are we just now more aware, and sooner? What used to be more discrete "disappearances" that would eventually be solved before the public was ever aware, have become instant news.

There are several cases of missing persons that are solved faster thanks to the power of social-media.

I pointed out these three cases because of their similarities and timeframe. Even with social-media, there doesn't seem to be much progress.

These are not discreet cases.

"The Calgary police said there are about 3,300 missing persons a year, or nine a day. "For nine people a day there would be no attention on them. We have to judiciously choose who we use the media for," Sgt. John Hebert said."

The case you referenced is yet another "disappearance" of someone who suffers from ADD, possible depression, and has a history of alcoholism.

The 'connection' could possibly be something less sinister, and more along the 'personal issues' line.

Absolutely. Just pointing out the similarities.

Most of the missing persons cases are found quickly. The CPS only appeal to the public in cases of suspicious circumstances, the very young and the very old.

Of the 20 people covered by CPS Public Assistance Requests in the last six months, only 4 are still missing (7 if you count the Liknes'/O'Brien case). Most were elderly or dementia patients and 4 are homicides.

Thanks for the insights. That aligns with what I had heard about the area as well. It takes more than a few years and a couple of in-fills to transition a neighbourhood from 'shady' to 'trendy'.

I don't have time to look into it until this evening, but during the press conference the officer said something about taking a good look at finances ... something like that ... is that our clue? The minimum income for the townhouse is $42k, so assuming that her husband is making $45-50k ... subtract taxes and daily expenses, and there probably isn't a lot of money left over. If a little was set aside for the holiday season, and then Shannon used the money for a brake repair in Edmonton, that would certainly present a problem. Did she also put the cost of the trip on a joint account? In this case, I'm inclined to think that if the husband did it, then money - and perhaps the brake repair - was the tipping point.
