Thanks for the great summary. I won't repost here but the wiki entry lists the exact addresses for most of the Portapique victims plus 2 addresses the owned. It looks like Lisa lived the closest to him, right across the road from one of his properties.

Links to recent articles (not an exhaustive list) about the 22 lovely people who were taken:

Isn't it unusual for a killer to sustain such a great amount of rage over such a long period of time? I'm wondering if initially he intended to kill only a few known-to-him victims, and then got such a rush and feeling of power that he continued killing. In other words, his initial motive of revenge fuelled by rage, turned to killing just for the thrill of it.
I think it was his plan all long to kill people even 1's that had done nothing to him :(. He likely killed his Ex and boyfriend 1st then after that the adrenaline kicked in as he may have felt some sense of "power" maybe. I wonder if he was on some type of drugs or drunk (seen on some article he had a problem with alcohol). Or he could have just went psychotic. I wonder if he had any children as if he did those poor children are having to deal with what their "father" did :(. There's been no mention of his side of the family except a nephew that he conned out of some property, court case etc. This guy was also a shyster and con-man. He was TROUBLE. JMO

This woman can kind of read French, but she can't speak it.

Not much information yet, but they need to stop defending their use of twitter to notify people. They may not be ready to accept blame, but they advocating for their "fluid" response is tone deaf.

I do wonder if any of these nutcases ever expect to get caught, captured or killed or do they think they’re so brilliant that they’ll escape detection because they’re smarter than police? In this case I do think GW thought he’d get away with it and outwit police by masquerading as one of their own and murdering all witnesses.

If the RCMP hadn’t discovered his identity early on, just imagine the total havoc that would be happening just now - A Killer Cop in their midst.
I have to wonder, seeing he burned down his own residence in Portapique, that he wasn’t heading to his place of business to burn it down too. Nothing left for anyone to claim. Personally, I don’t think this guy was a “millionaire.” I think he lived way beyond his means and things finally came crashing down for him. He defrauded his own uncle and put him out of his home to sell it for a profit. Scum is what he was. What kind of creature does something like that? In a conversation with my sibling years ago I recall his words (about another situation), “It takes a LOT of money to put on a show.” I believe this guy was nothing BUT “show” and it caught up with him. That’s not to say his actions weren’t deliberate. He was always capable of doing what he did, it was only a matter of when. JMHO

Here is a Google Earth map that I was able to put together using NS civil address finder and information posted upthread. I have intentionally left off victims names and addresses for obvious reasons. But I just thought it may help some others be able to picture how some of it may have unfolded.

Interesting that she put her kids in the basement before going out to investigate the neighbours house fire. Sounds like she suspected more than a house fire.

Quite possible that she had already heard gunshots.

I believe, from reading the article, that she likely put her children in the basement because that's what the RCMP was telling residents to do via Twitter.

I would speculate that if she heard gunshots she'd have called the police before doing anything else.

Many questions remain about why the RCMP didn’t send out a provincial wide warning. According to this , the US consulate in Halifax sent out a warning email to try to alert US citizens who were in Nova Scotia at the time.
U.S. citizens in Nova Scotia were sent additional warning during deadly rampage

An explanation by the RCMP will be required, that’s for sure. By this early report it seemed they believed GW was remained in the Portapigue area throughout the morning hours but that was not so. Portapique to Wentworth is about 1/2 hour driving time.

“Taggart described knowing Wortman's "lovely big home" on Portapique Beach Road. He said Wortman owned a few other properties in the community and was believed to divide his time between Portapique and his business in Dartmouth.

He described Portapique as "cottage country," with about 100 year-round residents and 250 in the summer.

"You just don't even dream that this is going to happen," he said. "I can't fathom it."

Police identified Wortman about nine hours after an initial tweet around midnight asking people to avoid the Portapique area and stay indoors as officers responded to a firearms complaint.

Cpl. Lisa Croteau, public information officer with the provincial force, said the police received a call about "a person with firearms" at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and the investigation "evolved into an active shooting investigation."...”

The sign now reminds me of The Joker's evil garish smile, imo.

Halifax Police Remove Signs For Denture Clinic Owned By Gunman - Huddle

Atlantic Denture Clinic
''Atlantic Denture Clinic was owned by 51-year-old Gabriel Wortman and the signage on the building was upsetting area residents.

“We have had reports from members of the community that they are troubled by the presence of some signage on one of the properties in Dartmouth belonging to the person responsible for the recent mass tragedy in Nova Scotia,” reads a press release from the HRP.

“The property is located at 193 Portland Street. Due to the extraordinary nature of this event and the impact it has had on the community, in an effort to mitigate any potential public safety issues, the Chief of Police used appropriate police authorities to have the signage removed from the property.”

''Nova Scotia is grieving the loss of so many of our family and friends. And yet, we have a smile along Portland St in Downtown Dartmouth that is a painful reminder of the cowardess (sic) acts of a local Denturist. We want him forgotten. Every second it stays up is a slap in the face to the victims and their families. It needs to come down now. Please remove it.”
