A new version of events, not that it’s factual either as the source is unnamed. It somewhat resembles another recount by a neighbour that occurred in iirc 2002 when GW was treating his girlfriend poorly at a party so I’m a little sceptical. No other source has mentioned a party in Portapique that night, that I recall. My biggest question would be why would he only tie her up, then go on to viciously and cold-heartedly murder so many other people?

“The killings that began Saturday night in the rural Nova Scotia community of Portapique and ended the next morning with the death of the gunman at a gas station started with domestic violence when Gabriel Wortman attacked his girlfriend, sources tell Global News.

Investigators believe Wortman and his girlfriend were at a party at a nearby home in the Portapique area when Wortman began arguing with her. They left the party and sources believe Wortman escalated the argument back at his cottage — assaulting her and tying her up. She escaped and hid in the woods.

Wortman left his cottage after the assault and investigators believe that’s when the shootings started. He returned to the house where the party was being held and killed several people there, sources said...”

It probably wasn't a party. It was most likely a gathering between two or three homes. The neighbors probably drank together occasionally, especially when the weather permit.

I believe 198 Highway 224 is the final crime scene before the capture at the Irving Big Stop in Enfield @ 11:26 am.

I would normally do a detailed map with possible routes, but I'm uncomfortable pinpointing even approximate locations where so many lives were senselessly taken.

You might’ve already noticed the pinned google map on this link. It does indicate many locations but not routes.

This makes it sound as if it was a violent act that escalated.

His demeanour caught on cctv, and how orchestrated it seems speaks otherwise, IMO. But I frankly don’t understand any of this.

Maybe he planned it, but something set it off at that moment.

Police found Wortman’s girlfriend around 7 a.m. local, sources said. It was from her they learned he was likely dressed as a police officer and driving a fake cruiser. She also provided the picture of the vehicle that was widely distributed. The information changed the way police were searching for Wortman.

So she was the witness.

I expect to hear that this is not the first time she saw him dressed that way or using that vehicle, IMO.

Alcohol?

This freak boiled for a long time, his temper and abusive nature popping up here and there.

Alcohol abuse can lead to depression. So can isolation in normal and especially depressive types. Perhaps the right combination of alcohol and depression, isolation just set him off. Just speculation.

I suppose it could be true but for someone to go whacko over a party and then he just happens to have a replica of a police cruiser, uniform etc handy to impersonate a police officer then take off driving around the northern part of the province with a target list conducting a cold-blooded massacre, killing totally random strangers as well as a police officer .....The two scenarios blended together just seem unlikely but I’ve been wrong before.

I find the bolded above credible. It finally makes sense of the reports of arriving police finding a number of people dead inside and outside of a single residence.
I wonder whether he was going around looking for his girlfriend at all the homes of friends where he thought she might be hiding?

Curious how she'd know he'd "likely" be dressed as a police officer...? Or did his interest in police uniforms and the existence of the vehicle come out after a lengthy interview with police?

So much gets twisted by how the reporter writes the story. This makes it sound like she knew about his desire to carry out a killing spree dressed as a cop, hid from both Wortman and the police for 8 hours, and only when police 'found' her did she reveal what she already knew about what he'd done and was going to keep doing. Again, could just be the way the article is written.

I wondered this as well. My guess is, purely speculation, that when he went full psycho and tied her up he may have changed into his uniform.

Welcome to Ws jaxb, thanks for the link!..

Whoa.

So....not so planned?

I can see scenario where he might tie her up, then go back to the party, kill the partygoers, and then plan to return and tell his girlfriend he shot her 'friends' ---before killing her.

The fight after the party sounds like maybe he thought she was flirting with someone there, and he went into a petty rage and decided to show her, once and for all.

Yes, it does have a vibe of "telephone tag" story that morphed from the story from several years ago.

Ugh. Time will tell.

If he had a list of people he wanted to kill, then this definitely did not start at a house party.
