Remains found on Beechgrove Road near Orangeville. Police tape could be seen marking off an area just to the side of Beechgrove Road, east of St. Andrew's Road

This quote makes me wonder if it's Sonia:

Const. Peter Leon said police are now waiting for a coroner to determine whether the remains are human and who they belong to.

Are the remains so poorly preserved that it isn't clear whether the remains are human? Sonia hasn't been missing that long. Are there only body parts in very poor condition?

The weather in the area last week was extremely hot so decomposition would have been rapid.

I think we all knew it was headed in this direction and if it is her...We still have the slightest clue of who or why?

How far from Sonia's home is this? Anyone know.

From the time she went missing until now they should know just by looking. I would say that LE officer is inexperienced with human remains. jmo

With all do respect Ruby Red, I don't think that they are "inexperienced". I think that they know who and what they have found, but in all honesty, this case has been jumped on by the media, and to be fair to the families involved THEY should be the first to get the information, not the general public. LE has to say something to put off the press for at least a short amount of time, until identity is confirmed, and the family is informed. That is simply my opinion.

Looks like Ontario has gone nuts lately. Makes me want to move to the woods and hide my kids.

I didn't say they were inexperienced. I said perhaps this Constable isn't used to seeing human remains, which is understandable. A homicide detective would have known. Of course the family should know first and maybe something was said to delay the press, but media is what it is. We have to take the good with the bad when it comes to media.

How long does it usually take the coroner to confirm identity? I guess they leave some time to inform all family members also before they report to the public.

Police confirmed human remains were found in a wooded area on the northside of Beech Grove Sideroads shortly after 9 a.m. this morning (Sept. 5) by someone taking a walk in the area.

While a coroner confirmed the remains were human, the police aren't releasing the gender of the body and there was no identification found. A post-mortem will be undertaken.

Although a direct link hasn't been made, police have spoken to Sonia Varaschin's family and continue to ask for privacy on their behalf.

I found the intersection of Beechgrove and St. Andrew's Road and made a map but I don't have Sonia's address. Remains were found East of St. Andrew's.

More info:
-remains were found in the woods.
-a jogger smelt a strong stench coming from there on Saturday
-the owner of the property didn't notice anything but people dump their garbage sometimes on Beechgrove

It's a holiday weekend so there may be a delay. If it is Sonia, I would imagine they can use dental which wouldn't take as long as DNA.

I'm sure the police already have a good idea because of hair and height.
