Sex predator that waited 6 years between crimes? Did he target prostitutes and escorts?

In order to safeguard the victim involved in the sexual assault investigation, we are only able to release the following details regarding the 2005 sexual assault.
The sexual assault occurred on April 12, 2005 and was reported to the Kelowna RCMP at that time. We can confirm that the assault occurred inside the Garden of Eden Escort Agency which was then, and still is, located in the downtown area of Kelowna. The victim was an employee of the escort agency at the time of the sexual assault.

I think this guy did this more than twice. JMO

I wonder if the perps DNA was found underneath poor Taylor's fingernails. It seems as if he likely had scratches, according to this.

We believe the suspect is a resident of the Okanagan Valley. He was a resident of the Okanagan in the spring of 2005 and he was still a resident on Halloween night of this year. It is possible he lived outside of the valley for a period of time from 2005 until 2011.

We also believe that friends, family or associates of this man hold valuable information which will help solve these crimes.

We ask that residents of the Okanagan to think back to the days just prior to Taylor’s murder on Halloween night to see if they recall some form of conflict, or personal upset on the day or days leading up to Halloween. This may include, financial pressures, relationship pressures, job loss or other serious life stressor.

Immediately following the homicide, this young man may have had unexplained visible scratches to his face, neck or arms.

There may have also been changes to his regular routine, such as missed appointments, commitments to work or school.

Friends, family and associates would have likely observed noticeable changes in his mood on or around Halloween night, which may have included a withdrawal or loss of interest in his usual activities, changes in appetite, changes in sleep patterns, irritability, increased use of alcohol or drugs or changes in personal grooming and hygiene.

Although we believe he is a resident of the Okanagan he may have made an unplanned, sudden or unexplained departure from the area shortly after the murder on Halloween night of this year in Armstrong.

This individual may be financially dependent on others or collecting social assistance

So sorry CanadianCandy and BC Bud if this is your community, you have festival tomorrow nite(Thursday).. He's local, i'm sure that makes you feel better:( Could be born local or you get alot of fruit pickers many stay, its lovely out there. I live 5 small communities, one Hwy connects us. You have a bit more of a spider web, thou Hwy 97 connects at Rosedale Ave. But the question i ask is- if you were not local-would you know that you can walk the tracks from Rosedale to downtown?
Evidence markers show white building in background. Where you show situation CanadianCandy - pic shows no buildings . I do think treed area looks party friendly, but you would have to be sorta local to know that (or know locals). IMO..You'rs is a tiny town- if the locals are guessing at to where this happened - seems wrong-also dogs only sniff ground - look up- theres trees there. My child, his friends are the same age - they sure ain't no angels, they are country kids thou, sorry you have this hanging over you, could be my town.

Oh for *advertiser censored* sakes, find the massage girl and give her protection, now she would be important. At the time of her assault -well when you are in that business - it's just to be expected-nobody cares. JMO MOO

The perp lived in an area 1 hour and 10 minutes south of Armstrong, straight down 97 Highway, right?

Locals, can you tell us what the general radius is for the Central Okanagan Valley?

Why would the perp be in Armstrong on Hallowe'en Night?

Why would the perp be on those train tracks in that very local, residential area that night?

What other sexual assaults have occurred in the areas surrounding Kelowna?

Why would the perp go from a city of 120,000 people (if he lives in Kelowna), to a town of 4,500? Was Taylor targeted?

Did the letter sent to the RCMP indicate an origin of Kelowna (eg. postage?) LE seems pretty sure that the perp lived in the Okanagan Valley on Hallowe'en night?

Here is a map indicating Kelowna to Armstrong. I am unsure if Kelowna is a fair representation of the Central Okanagan Valley?

I wonder if the financial assistance information is based upon the 2005 case or Taylor's? Is it based on a profile of the perp or is there some other evidence?

If LE believes he might be on social assistance, I guess they could narrow things down considerably that way, right?

DNA match found in B.C. Halloween slayinghttp://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...1/11/23/bc-van-diest-homicide-dna-sketch.html
Police believe killer may have assaulted escort in 2005

li-bc-111123-van-diest-suspect-sketch.jpg

RCMP released this sketch of a suspect wanted in a 2005 attack on an escort.
Police believe the same man was responsible for the killing of a teen on Halloween night. (RCMP )
RCMP said at a news conference Wednesday they had collected DNA from the scene of Van Diest's slaying and it matches DNA from a sexual assault case involving a Kelowna, B.C., escort in 2005.

He is described as Caucasian, with a stocky build, short dark hair and prominent sideburns, but police cautioned that the man's appearance may have changed in the six years since the sketch was created.

He was believed to be 18 to 20 years old at the time of the 2005 assault and is likely a resident of the Okanagan region in B.C.'s southern Interior.

@ nao the area i indicated on my map was the area provided by the RCMP

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/video/video-who-killed-taylor-van-diest/article2225479/

you can see the map and area indication they provided to the media in this video, 1min and 36 sec's in. I can reconcile the area better for you.

The path goes from rosedale to pleasant valley, with other entrances/exits in-between

would you know that you can walk the tracks from Rosedale to downtown?

IMO absolutely NOT, you need some sort of intimate knowledge of the location to know it is a short cut to downtown. If he was somewhat familiar with the area and took rosedale into the city he could have possibly seen others walking near the tracks and seen it as an opportune place. He wouldn't necessarily know it was a short cut to down town just seen it as a dark place with potential victims

@ wondergirl

Yes the Okanagan valley is connected by Hwy 97A ... The central region is pretty much Oyama/Winfield to Westbank, with north and south regions on their perspective sides (Armstrong side being North and Penticton side being south)

I can think of no reason other then personal he would be in Armstrong i.e. living there, from there or visiting someone there. The celebrations in Armstrong are not big enough to draw outside curiosity IMO. Especially when 15mins or less ether way would take you to a larger city. As for other assaults, i personally feel we have disproportionate number of crimes against women in BC in general. IRT the Okanagan valley i don't know that there has been a rash but i do recall several years ago there being a few attacks (maybe 2) in the Rutland area (a sub-unit of Kelowna on the northern side) i don't know much else though, other then i recall they were random and did occur outside.

hmmm no clue about the social assistance thing, possibly they believe this would be his way of supporting himself do the behavior analyst?

The Huffington Post has the presser on video at this link (14 minutes long)and some info about the financial assistance comment:

"We ask that residents of the Okanagan think back to the days just prior to Taylor's murder on Halloween night to see if they recall some form of conflict, or personal upset on the day or days leading up to Halloween," he said in a media statement.

"This may include financial pressures, relationship pressures, job loss or other serious life stressor."

Sorry, this presser is from Nov 4th! but the article is new.

“There is a danger to the public in the sense that we have an unsolved sexual assault that has been linked to a recent homicide case,” Cpl. Moskaluk said in an interview. “Certainly, with this person not being in custody, arrested and identified, there is a certain degree of risk to the public. That’s why we are working hand-in-hand with the community to remind them to maintain their vigilance.”

Maybe they can check through (older) local highschool yearbooks for similiarities to the composite of perp.

Early reports said that the suspect may have followed her to the area, so I don't think we can assume that he was famliar with the path where she was attacked. I wonder if he has family in the area.

muchthanks Canadiancandy, Taylor was on the the tracks, maybe going north or south- depends if she took Rosedale and went N or Pleasant Valley Rd went S, Douglas Ave(disability home) is a side street- trail to tracks.
I'm not a guy but i think maybe 23-25 to have enough hair to do that face buzz, was that ever fashion?? He knows someone in that area -as in street, scary-can people do anonomus calls out there?

Thanks dotr xoxox. I recognize the RCMP officer from Kienan Hebert's case (boy who was abducted and then returned to his home).

I wonder if the perp was into the music scene based on those sideburns, it looks like a trend thing ie. Nickleback and heavier bands.

Can someone link me to the fireworks event that was going on in Armstrong that night? Was there also a music event too? I know there was a music event on the Saturday at the Exhibition grounds. What if this guy was working at the event?

If the perp from the 2005 assault has his composite drawing broadcast nationally now, one would think he would alter his appearance now, if he still looks like that.

I wonder if he is bald now?

Are those sideburns generally in style in certain groups in B.C.?

Why was the perp in ARMSTRONG that night?????

There is such a small population there, SOMEONE must recognize that man.
