This is not a crime, but...

I posted this old UID case here because it occurred in Toronto and a lot of our posters are familiar with the city; its cold cases, geography, etc.

http://www.doenetwork.org/hot/hotcase330.html ** taken from the Doe Network site.

I've wondered for a while who this guy was.

It reminds me of the "Grateful Doe" case, as you have a dual traffic fatality, with one party identified (presumably, anyway), and the other a UID for years.

I looked up the case in old newspapers, but I really couldn't find anything. The case is featured on the OPP website, but take care as the postmortem photo is very disturbing. I found one motorcycle crash around the date this happened in 1988, in Toronto, but it only identified one victim.

This is a case that should be solved, as there is enough identifying information, but sadly, it hasn't.

I'm sorry for posting this in a crime forum, but we've got some great sleuths here who know the lay of the land.

Started a thread for the UID found in Toronto, deceased as a result of motorcycle accident. Maybe he will be recognized soon!

A short but decent investigative segment about the death of Andrew Gilchrist, Dylan Ellis and Oliver Martin's friend.

It is still worth considering whether this was an accidental overdose, or not.
rbbm.

If someone was into playing bizarre, deadly games, that would leave everyone scratching their heads- they succeeded.
Reminded of an earlier post in thread, mentioning a certain unusual, violent , M, who calls his mother "mommy" and allegedly murders for sport...

"Gilchrist, now 31, was found dead less than two weeks ago on June 13 — six years to the day his friends were killed.

“That it lands, virtually on the very hour these two men died themselves is really quite bizarre,” Giroux said."

I wonder who found him deceased. Was someone in the bedroom or house with him? Who knows.

Good point, dotr. I thought that if the case was random, it was either M or someone like him.

Case, a 47-year-old businesswoman, disappeared on October 2nd, 1991. Her skeletal remains were found on November 5th, 1992 in a Caledon field.
From what I have been able to gather, police strongly suspected David Snow as her killer, but were never able to prove it. Snow murdered Nancy and Ian Blackburn at their Caledon cottage in April, 1992, and was later convicted of that crime and others. He was captured in B.C. after an intense manhunt.

Lengthy, new article.

http://www.thestar.com/news/insight...-the-memoirs-of-an-opp-criminal-profiler.html

"To catch a killer: The memoirs of an OPP criminal profiler
In this excerpt from her new book, Crime Seen, former OPP investigator Kate Lines recalls the brutal murder of a Toronto couple in 1992, and the hunt for the sexual sadist who killed them".

"Of the 25 character traits that Kate Lines and Ron MacKay had given to police, 23 matched Snow."

I wonder if his DNA has turned up since then. This is a pretty old case.

I find it hard to believe that a predator such as this has not re-offended since.

-I am sure he lived somewhere in the area, as the attacks happened within a few kilometers of each other, according to a map.

-The attacks were bold, using a vehicle that someone would remember, blocking his victims in.

-Social media was non-existent at the time, and surveillance technology was not as good as today. I am sure the malls in these cases have better security today, and there would be more to go on.

The sketch was done by hand, by the looks of things, and was pretty good; i.e., not too vague, as hand drawn sketches tend to be. JMHO.

Bumping this portion of the thread, I wonder if the death of Mr. Gilchrist is still being investigated or not.

Wonder what the killer thought about the third friend dying on the same date his friends were ambushed?
http://news.nationalpost.com/toront...ears-to-the-day-his-two-friends-were-murdered

"Reached Thursday, Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux, who has led the homicide investigation, hadn’t heard of Mr. Gilchrist’s passing".
“I’m a little stunned by the weirdness of the same day,” he said. “That’s just creepy.”

The case still stands out in his mind as a total puzzle, one that top homicide investigators have yet to piece together.

“I don’t recall, in the 18 years I’ve been here, of having a motiveless event in its entirety.”

The article seemed to suggest a drug overdose, or combination of that and sleep apnea, but the use of the term "mysterious" in the headline, plus a lack of details makes you wonder.

Almost makes one wonder if the drugs were tampered with..
Wonder if somebody very clever, but twisted, had both patience and a deep-seated grudge towards all three friends ,speculation...

This case is very disturbing.

The perp here is pretty distinctive looking. I wonder if he has struck before. It would seem he is a cunning monster, talking his way into the house.

Any suspected linkages, fellow sleuths?

The news conference hasn't been posted yet, I don't think.

Here is the thread for that vicious assault with updated composite.

Police were never able to solve the case but today, detectives say they will release composite sketches of the suspects they believe are connected to the crime and are offering a $50,000 reward to help renew the public’s interest in the investigation.

Authorities say their investigation has spanned three provinces – Ontario, Alberta and Quebec.

ETA: Why is there not a thread for Larry Roberts? I've searched for one, but only found this thread. I certainly hope this latest news jogs someone's memory.

Larry Roberts was my uncle. I don't know
A lot about his case as I was a baby at the time.
However if anyone has any info it would be greatly
appreciated. He was a good man who was taken too
soon and missed by many.

Molly879, the reopening of the investigation into your uncle's murder and the 50k reward offer for info, must be very welcome music to your ears!

1. Agree with this not sure how hard they looked....I mean Giroux didnt even know about it!

2. Has to be something overlooked in the call back for the keys a set up even if an an unwitting one

3. Why in media do we get no perspective from the woman in the car?

4. They cant find a motive so they call it motiveless but there is no doubt a motive I think

It seems that Giroux was not even informed, which was strange, considering the odd circumstances of this man's death, and proximity to the original homicides.

-It could have been a set up, agreed, Chorley8. However, it could have been the gunman was lurking around, and got an unexpected second chance after being distracted by something.

- I saw a brief interview with O.M.'s girlfriend (the victim). Her identity was concealed. It seems she is terrified, for obvious reasons. It may be that she saw more than she is letting on, but not giving it up due to fear.

-I think that by "motiveless", police are referring to some dark, twisted reason that makes no sense (like that of a serial killer), or something so dumb and insignificant (like a dirty look). I do think that there was a motive, although it is not obvious to anyone close to the two victims.

There were some interesting theories posted in the comments section of this video. I don't know that I buy into the "Zebra Killings" hypothesis, but other ideas may be closer to the truth.
