I am not sure she will be able to get anymore celebri-experts onboard, though I imagine the experts, like Dr. Lee, that have seen evidence already, will have to appear for her if the defense subpoena's him/them.
Looks like AL is working the case for peanuts anyway, why would she leave now? And I don't think she can leave without extenuating circumstance...
It is hard to swallow that Floridians should have to pay for her, but there may be a tiny, thin silver lining-The defense will no longer have any excuse to not move forward with depos and reciprocal discovery. Once the defense is funded, they will have no reason for not progressing and being ready by May 2011.

She couldn't file for indigent status before she used the moneys earned from the 20/20 interview, the countless media interviews, GMA, Today Show. She will have to fill out a form and on that form she has to list if there are any future earnings and where are they coming from. Is the state to assume there are no "future" book or movie deals? She has to list it, JMHO

What I'd like to see is an itemized statement on how the $250,000 was spent, how it was spilt up, was there a broker fee? Who got paid.

See where he spent that $90,000 and ALyon that $22,500..prove they used it all up and on what they used it on. Baez only did a handful of depos..oh, they wasted much on filing frivilous motions, incomplete motions and those that make no sense at all for they cite no cases..ahhh, priceless moments..

That makes me feel a little better. This just looks so sneaky and underhanded, and I don't like it. She's setting the stage for any defendant to go sell things for their defense and then just declare indigency when the money runs out. I don't like the thought of defendants being able to scam the state into paying for their defense. Can the judge not approve of this order? Or have her investigated to see if she really is indigent or see how much much money was really made and where it went?

This just stinks to high heaven more than Casey's car...

Check this out...this is what would have happened if they had done the right thing and filed their witness list.
"From Bean E "*Very* interesting comment from Richard Hornsby on his blog in regards to the experts:

Richard Hornsby says:

...the problem an expert witness list creates for Baez is two-fold.

1. It requires your experts to finally give their opinion – and an opinion is no good unless is supports your theory. If their opinion does not support your theory, you don’t list them.

2. It allows the State to inquire into how they are getting paid, by whom, and financial arrangements they have made, and media rights they have negotiated, etc. And if the experts are doing this “pro bono” the State can then go into ulterior reasons they agreed to work on the case – books that are coming out, etc.

3. Finally, when the State deposes an expert (or any attorney deposes the other sides’ expert) the opponent has to pay the expert what the expert charges the hiring attorney. So if these experts are not charging Baez, they are not allowed to charge the State.

Basically the witness list opens Pandora’s Financial Box for Mr. Baez."

I hate that the Florida taxpayers are going to have to pay for this defense.

I can't personally speak about this case since it is in Florida, But there is a triple murder case I have been working on for a couple of years that happened in my area...This is a triple murder of a wife and her 2 young children...The father has been sitting in prision for almost 10 years and has 2 convictions overturned by the Supreme Court twice...a third trial is suppose to happen...When this defendant recently claimed he was indejent the judge allowed him to keep his private attorneys but with the stipulation that they would only get paid the amount that the local public defenders office would get....So it makes no diffence how high priced you are or what you would normally get on your own, you will still only get paid the public defenders flat amount, and also every bill has to be audited by the public defenders office, so if Florida works the same way the the "Dream Team" will not have an unlimited amount of money to do with what they wish...

If you are intrested in looking at the case in my area go to justicefordavidcamm.com because this case is a total injustice of our legal system.

ClickOrlando website has the headline up, but is saying the story does not exist. Must be overloaded. :)

Anyway, before I run, a couple details: Andrea, who is working pro-bono, has been paid $22,500 for costs she incurred.

Baez has been paid $89,454, doesn't say what for, or where it came from.

All of this, paid for by CASEY. :furious:

.

Andrea >> pro bono >> $22.5k

She must have expensive taste in... what in the world? What the heck could she have spent $22.5k on?

Never mind - doesn't matter. I just hope that Judge Stan will have an accountant/auditor go through these "expenses" with a fine tooth comb and then sanctions every professional and every business that inflated their charges. Then the Fla. Bar needs to investigate every one of them and lift licenses if they are trying to rip off the Courts.

Jose' probably has never even grossed over $100k in a year. Wasn't he pretty much a law journal subscription service salesman until about 2 yrs ago? [Sorry, I didn't follow this case.]

grrr......

Maybe Baez is hoping a Public Defender will be appointed so that he can back out of the case which is so far beyond his capability, while saving face (ha)...

Why didn't they account for Linda K B's and Henry L's expenses and all those other people who have flown to and stayed in Orlando to perform in this circus? I know they have said they are "pro bono"; however, that just meant they weren't charging fees, right? Someone paid their expenses, as well. Why isn't that mentioned?

My hubby has endured countless hours of my nagging questions and commentary on this case. What a saint LOL!
So whether he likes it or not, he is aware of this case and my disgust with Casey and her defense team. (Some of you know that he is a well-respected prosecutor up here in our fair emerald city. :)) I asked him to sit down and read this thread as well as the linked articles about this latest defense move. Here's what happened:

DH sits down at computer to read.....silence....sounds of thoughtful sighing......more reading......head-scratching.....more heavy sighs.....then he reaches into his briefcase for his box of Mylanta.......five minutes later rummages around in the desk drawer for the tums..........then as I'm working on dinner I hear a "((snort)) Whaaaaat???? Are you kidding me??!!!" followed by "Oh for the love of all that is holy!!!!" then the creak of the desk chair as he gets up and gives me "the look" (translation: "Why the H3LL is this happening?") and then shakes his head in disgust. He walks down the hall while muttering "ugh...Baez Baez Baez..."

'Nuff said, dear!

Don't anyone jump on me here....but I actually feel sorry for the poor baby killer...she has NO ONE....not even a preacher standing by her for her soul...no one...Her attorneys are dumb and certainly not getting rich at what they hoped would be a big newsworthy crime (NOT..anymore)...her parents are crazy...she hasn't a friend in the world....should someone help redeem her? Or does she just get lost in the Florida prison system? End this despicable travesty now....someone looking out for her soul should counsel her to confess...NOW...so she can start some sort of redemptive life, acknowledging what she has done..."confession is good for the soul." Maybe she can have some sort of purposeful behind bars...its been done before..

That is going to last me all weekend! Good stuff!!!!

So Baez was PAID $89K plus and AL was paid $22K plus for her expenses. But Baez never agreed to work pro bono, so my question is, how much was Baez paid for HIS expenses?

Respecfully, Kimmer, you must be able to afford to say this because you don't live in Florida. Am I right? I say, as a Florida resident, she should now be required to accept one of our state's public defenders. She is not special. It will rip a new one in my heart if I have to fund JB and AL's expenses!!! I'm not being dramatic when I say there are a million other charities to which I would rather contribute!!!!! :furious:

--------------------------------------
ExpectingUnicorns, thank you is not enough!!!:woohoo: I agree. All her Attys.etc. should come from the State of Florida with no exception.I think this should be true in every State!! If shes so poor, aid should come from Florida Attys. etc. not her so called "Dream Team". who the he** do they (Defense) think she is?..It is not right. She threw her daughter in a swamp and gets cream of the crop?:croc:..No way!!!

She's not 1st chair, is she? [IDK, real question]

They aren't going to be getting more "dream team" professionals on board, I don't think. Whoever defends her will probably have no choice but to argue some kooky, ridiculous defense. Who wants to argue one of those in front of an international audience? The experts' reputations and credibility could be destroyed if they do some presto-magic-o manipulation (spin) of the evidence.

Sounds like it's a sinking ship and the rats are scrambling onto the flotsam.

btw - in case you can't tell, Poster LFlorida is not an attorney. The hiring of an attorney is a serious decision, yadayadayada.

Probably too embarassed to even submit an invoice. ;)

does anyone know how much death penalty qualified public defender would cost?and also how much is typically spent on a captal case including experts ets.?

The problem is that this would require remorse and regret on her part, none of which she has EVER shown. Casey only does things that benefit herself and God help anyone that gets in her way. Even a helpless two year old child.

I only wish she could have some sort of productive life behind bars, but everytime I see her eyes, I don't see that happening unless it benefits her and only her in some sort of way. In other words, anything "redemeptive" she does is ONLY done for selfish reasons and nothing else.

In order to be redeemed, you have to admit to being wrong and you have to WANT to change, and Casey Anthony has not felt remorse nor has changed since the moment she took Caylee's life.

I try, I really try to feel sorry for her because I am a good person and want to believe in the good in all people. I just don't see any good in Casey at all, and I can't feel any sympathy for her. She is alone because she has made herself all alone, penniless, without anyone to save her. She has nobody to blame but herself. And now the state is going to have fund her defense, a defense that probably wishes it didn't have to be there and defend her anymore. It's really bad when your own lawyers don't like you. You'd think that tell her something, but apparently she has permanent rose colored vision.

I'm not trying to say your viewpoint is wrong. I respect what you said, and I really wish that were the case. It breaks my heart that it probably isn't and never will be. This all IMO.

Sickening. The whole thing is absolutely sickening. Caylee has already indirectly funded every single dime of what has already been paid to defend the mother she trusted who MURDERED her, and now they expect the Florida taxpayers to pick up the rest of the tab?!? I mean, how insane and unjust can it get????

I used to live in FL and I will support all Floridians in any way I can to raise all kind of hell to stop this insanity NOW.

fwiw, i can't resist saying i detest GA & CA more than ever before right now.

We knew this was coming since the recent hearing when Andrea mentioned it regarding taking Miss Kerley's deposition.
To all of you that guessed the Anthony home foreclosure was a tell for this being filed...you were spot on. If the judge allows this...I hope the defense will get it in gear about taking depositions and get the trial schedule back on track. It wont be a moment too soon.

OMG! You're right! I knew the A's had to have a reason for allowing their home to be foreclosed upon. They never do anything without an ulterior motive.

I have a question - if Florida has to cover the costs, is she still allowed to have a Dream Team or will any run-of-the-mill expert do?!
