Newly unsealed court documents say Harold Henthorn denied using the map during the deadly Sept. 29, 2012, hike. But he told friends that he scouted out the park's steep and craggy terrain at least six times, trying to find the perfect place to take Toni to celebrate their 12th year of marriage.

In more than 20 search warrants made public Wednesday, authorities say Henthorn studied his wife's financial status before marrying her, gave conflicting stories about what he was doing when she fell, and may have tried to kill her previously...

Relatives and friends told investigators there were other times that they were concerned about the Henthorns' relationship. They said Henthorn controlled his wife's phone calls and limited her contact with their daughter, now 9.

What a !!! (only an alleged , of course) I get so frustrated when I read about this guy.
:maddening:

To think that he almost got away with his first wife's murder (presuming that he is found guilty, naturally) is unbearable. Unfortunately we know that are many similar cases that are never solved.

Harold Henthorn made major contradictions in his statements to authorities on the night his first wife died and in subsequent days, according to a report authored by a private investigator at the behest of the Douglas County Coroner’s Office...

The report, prepared by Charles B. McCormick Jr. of the McCormick Detective Agency, summarizes six reports from sheriff’s deputies and other investigators who interviewed Harold Henthorn at the scene of the accident and in the following days...

Federal prosecutors say a man charged with shoving his second wife over a cliff in Rocky Mountain National Park told wildly varying stories about her death and the death of his first wife...

Meanwhile, Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock announced Thursday in a news release that his investigators are conducting a thorough investigation into the death of Lynn Henthorn.

"Over the past 27 months of the investigation, approximately 40 interviews have been conducted and additional information has been uncovered that was unknown and or unavailable at the time," Spurlock's news release says.

According to prosecutors, in the years after his first wife's death, Henthorn offered "bizarre stories about Lynn's death," including:

"She was bending over in the trunk when the hatchback fell on her neck and killed her."
"A lug nut shot out and pierced her lung."
"A rod from one of the jacks shot into his wife's chest and killed her."
"The cabin on the flight-for-life helicopter or plane depressurized and collapsed her lungs."
"She died in a head-on car collision from which he escaped uninjured."
"He even told a Sunday School class that she had died from cancer and lost a baby she was carrying to chemotherapy."

The station reports prosecutors also pointed out in their motion numerous similarities in the deaths of Henthorn's two wives:

Both deaths involved bizarre "accidents"
Both left Henthorn with significant insurance benefits
Both times Henthorn was the lone witness
Both deaths occurred after about 12 years of marriage
Henthorn told wildly varying stories about both deaths
In both situations, Harold was eager to have the bodies quickly cremated despite family requests against it
Harold spread the ashes of both women on the same mountain

Just wanted to bump this thread,it was covered on 48 hrs. saturday.Having difficulty posting the link, the episode is online if you missed it.

We'll, I guess it's still unknown whether it was an accident or not.

Was the motive money? Other than he's just evil. My mom always says jealous is the root of all evil and if jealousy isn't the problem, usually money is involved. So many cases I look at on here revolve around jealousy or money, it's sad.

I've always been of the notion that selfishness is the root of all evil cause sometimes money isn't involved

I've always been of the notion that selfishness is the root of all evil cause sometimes money isn't involved

Oh, if only greed could be rooted out of the human genome....

I really do think it is related to money. Otherwise, why not simply walk away? Oh yah....there's the house, the other possessions, and, of course the life insurance policy!!

These self-centered guys (or gals) are definitely all about not sharing one shekel with their ex-"loved ones". The universe revolves around them and they don't have one iota of empathy.

I found he was born in 1955. Does anyone have his full date of birth?

Can't find it online the regular sites because hes in Federal Prison now.

Thanks

Murder Trial Begins for CO Man Accused of Pushing Wife Off Cliff

"Jury selection is underway in the murder trial of a Colorado man who is accused of pushing his wife off a cliff.

Colorado Cold Cases: Is Harold Henthorn jinxed or is he a black widower

"Harold Henthorn’s case just got a whole lot harder to defend after a federal judge ruled recently that prosecutors can introduce evidence about his first wife’s murder.
U.S. District Judge R. Brooke Jackson signed a ruling June 19, 2015 that said circumstances surrounding the death of Henthorn’s first wife, Sandra “Lynn,” in May 1995 were sufficiently similar to Toni Henthorn’s death in 2012 to allow prosecutors to submit evidence about her death at Henthorn’s trial in September..."

A map and a life insurance policy will likely be key evidence in a #murder trial in #Colorado. What's next for Harold Henthorn next at 10.

The FoxNews (I think it's the right one) link above talks about him debating with friends when trying to decide on a girlfriend after wife #1 died. He ended up with the ophthalmologist - who was the best candidate financially. Ugh.
