No, no, no. By that logic, the teacher could tell them to strip and run around the football field and they should do it. <modsnip>

I'm talking about reasonable request. Like pledging to your country. Not jumping from buildings, or running through the halls naked or what not. When I went to school, we had kids there that did not stand for the pledge, but they brought a note from their parents.

One person's reasonable is another's unconscionable.

She is suspended. <modsnip>

So? That does not mean she is guilty. It means she is BEING PAID for her job, which she still has, while they are investigating the ALLEGATIONS.

If the police had arrived, and seen a student with injuries of any kind, she would have been arrested on the spot for assault. So I am going to wait and see and reserve judgment, because this might be blown out of proportion and she has apparently been 20 years on the job, with no scandals like this previously.

A Lafayette middle school teacher is on paid leave pending the outcome of a police investigation into allegations that she assaulted a student who refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance on Thursday.

No note is needed now. In this school the rules state that he doesn't have to stand for it.

And UNCONSTITUTIONAL. You know. Like in the USA.

Maybe there should be some punishment for not paying attention in govt class,

There are those late night shows where the host goes out and asks questions of people on the street. I used to think the people had to be a set up, No one could lack such knowledge.

Apparently this teacher lacks knowledge of the CONSTITUTION,

A lot of us on WS have seen video of teachers assaulting students and they are not arrested

One person's reasonable is another's unconscionable.

Flourish: there is nothing unconscionable about having respect for your country, and the men and women who have died so you can live to enjoy that respect.

By what Twitter search? I can't find a thing regarding a verbal assault. What search terms are you using?

here is a link that was tweeted:

The Lafayette Police Department confirmed to CBS4 that they are investigating a possible “assault” on a student who refused to join the recitation.
Whether anything happened, which rose to the level of “assault,” verbal or physical, is not yet clear.

Two parents told CBS4 that they were disappointed with the way the incident had been “blown out of proportion.” Another parent told CBS4 that her daughter called Smith “strict” but had never had a problem with her.

[ the tweets that I read were on a forum we are not allowed to link to here]

It is UNCONSTITUTIONAL to be required to stand.

I have seen more videos of students assaulting teachers, verbally and physically, than I have the other way around.

I don't think it's against TOS to tell someone what search terms to use in Google or Twitter.

The point being addressed is that teachers in the assault videos have not been arrested. The fact the gym teacher has not been arrested means nothing.

Only that's not what this is about.

But since you mention it.... Did those same people fight so I can be forced to participate in indoctrination? I don't think so, no. Free speech also means freedom to not speak... Nobody should have to pledge allegiance to a piece of fabric, regardless of what it represents, for fear of bodily harm. None of the veterans I know feel that way.

So what? Are students minors still learning? Yes. Should adults be held to a higher standard? Yes and they are.

In middle school?

The better question is, why is the student doing this in the first place?

90% of people refusing to stand, or taking "a knee" during these events have no idea even WHY they are doing it......it's just monkey see, monkey do, type of deal

MOO, I'd chalk it up to media intake.

I know where the actual school is, my bro used to live in that part of Boulder County.

Also - and I cannot find anything stating where that gym teacher lives, the actual city of Boulder is quite blue, surrounded by a red area. Having spent considerable time with the people there firsthand, quite an experience.

This is what happenes when instead of sparing the rod, we spare the child. We have students assaulting/murdering teachers, bringing guns to school, metal detectors, and guards at the doors, police officers walking the halls, lock down drills, and on, and on.

Is this a Chinese based news site? I'm trying to figure out what this site is - was looking for an about us page or something, and one of its main links is to Asian beauty secrets.

I hear ya, there is a reason I give teachers a lot of credit, having a job I would never in a million years be able to do.

So... Teaching children that violence is appropriate, by modeling for them by hitting them is supposed to create less violence? That is absurd.
