The backpack sitting by itself ... the pink purse sitting my itself ... both seemingly staged, both happened on a Friday ... 800 miles and a couple of months between the two cases ... I don't know what to think, but one of my first thoughts is that one person could be moving around, stalking, and abducting young girls. I don't think that this will have a good ending. Basically, I'm looking for similarities (and there are several), as it seems unusual that two perps would suddenly be actively abducting young girls, but perhaps it's possible.

What about you?

I hear you, Otto, and two 10 year old girls, at the time of their disappearances. I felt the same way when I first read about the backpack.

Thank you for your wonderful maps.

Missing Children - Miracles DO Happen

MISSING CHILDREN CAN COME HOME ALIVE.
HOPE.PRAY.BELIEVE....

Foxfire...That was so beautiful and very much needed! Thank you for always having just the right song, video for the moment in which we find ourselves. I really appreciate it! Thanks friend!
Thanks for reminding us to keep hope alive. May Jessica have such a Miracle as these!

What time does Wilt Elementary School let out in the afternoon?

"The school started calling her mother Sarah Ridgeway at 10 a.m. to say Jessica never arrived, but her mother, a night-shift worker who sleeps during the day, didn't get the message until 4:30 that afternoon."

Just wondering what time Jessica usually walked home from school. Would mom still be asleep then? Anyway, so glad to see People Magazine reporting on Jessica.

Night all, off to bed.

Well they live with grandmother and Aunt were they all at work?
Who was home when she left?

This may not be practical in this day and age, but when our sons were in grade school parent volunteers, who lived close to the school, and who walked over with walking kids, stayed at the school for an hour and phoned the parents of any child who was not in class.

Yes, these were the days when more parents were at home, but fewer cell phones, a few answering machines or voicemail, mostly land line phones. As parents, we were responsible for phoning the school before the first bell rang, to inform the school which of our children would not be in attendance that day. And the volunteers at the school would phone us if any of our kids were not in class.

With so many cell phones, smart phones, and texting, it may be even easier now for the school and parents to be in touch. Maybe the idea of parent volunteers spending an hour checking whose parents phoned in, and then phoning the parents whose children were absent may be cosidered? It worked for us back then.

I do not think Just a message should be left on a phone if a child didnt come to school and you cant reach a parent send someone to the house. Better to be safe than sorry

I actually lived in a Township in NJ where EVERY child took the bus even if you lived across the street.

We do not have a home phone anymore. My husband and I just use our cell phones. Sometimes, I turn my phone ringer off and I forget to turn it back on. I know that, on occasion, I have taken a nap and had the phone right beside my head, but the ringer was off and I missed 3-4 calls. I am just wondering if this could be a possibility at Jessica's house.
I live in Atlanta, and our school system does not call about an absence until 5:30-6:00pm! It is an automated call. I have noticed that when I remember to call the school and let them know my child is sick, I do not receive the automated call.

Jessica and her mother live with her grandma and aunt?
Anybody else?

I dont know but where were the grandmom and aunt when school was calling?
Work?
Out?
i Have three numbers with the school of who to call if i cant be reached!
Why was no one else called?

Same with us we all just have cell phones. But someone else should have been called Grandmom or aunt. JMO

Sadly children are prime targets out walking alone even in pairs these little kids dont stand a chance.

I think someone should have walked her to school in the mornings It dosent look that far.
All JMO

Our school system makes one call, to the main number listed on the child's records.

JESSICA RIDGEWAY - MAS DE 72 HORAS HAN PASADO DESDE QUE JESSICA RIDGEWAY DE DIEZ AÑOS SE EXTRAVIARA EN ESAS 3 CUADRA

I don't know what this says but glad to see all the tweets!!

Good morning scorekeeper and fellow sleuths! I am so glad to see the tweets in Spanish too. I, like all of you, am praying for Jessica to be found safe and sound.

This tweet basically says ..........

More than 72 hours has passed since Jessica Ridgeway 10 years old is missing from her 3 wards. (CUADRA means Stable, Hall or Ward, so I'm 'assuming' that this refers to Jessica's mom, aunt and grandmother?)

OT Great seeing you all here for Jessica. I took a break from WS after following Micky Shunick's case. :(

That's about the only option we have left - unless it is a family friend?

Neighbor or family of neighbor, friend of friend, etc. Other people with reason to be in that area?

I can't get the cell phone out of my head. LE will not discuss anything cell phone related, but they haven't denied Jessica had a cell phone. A cell pinging right there would keep LE searching close.

Maybe we will hear more about the cell phone issue this morning.

Not ours we actually have truant officers that come to get ya LOL

We live in a state with open enrollment, meaning a child can attend school anywhere they wish, assuming there is room in that school and the parent provides transportation (Within a district, transportation may be available.)

Then, of course, there's home schooling.

What this has done is completely foil school attendance and truancy. Who's to know if a kid walking down a street on a particular day attends a school that has a day off or is home schooled? Police don't even ask anymore. It's up to each school to determine truancy.

Most school attendance calls are automated. (It's a business, of course, that sells this service to schools.) Crazy because a truant student can sometimes get a phone and erase the message (even a cell phone).

Or, in Jessica's case, a parent many not get the call at all. I'm guessing her school has an automated messaging system.

Praying she is found alive and safe. :(

I'm thinking someone from the area took her, SuzieQ. Maybe someone who knew or saw her walking each day and waited for the right opportunity.

This is so sad. It reminds me of little Somer Thompson. Our society is messed up when children cannot be safe walking to school! :(
