Yesterday when the helicoptor was doing the view before the jeep was taking away (2) CSI people were at the very front left side getting something off the front grill or underneath and bagging it.

I thought so too, but then see that they covered the front license plate in brown paper. Maybe that's what they were doing?

Not only that ... I once unstuck my car from slushy ice that had frozen around my tires using .... beer. The alcohol melted the ice whereas water would just have frozen. (I had a cooler in the back due to a party that had happened the day before, and my out-of-town friends gave me all the extra beer. Thankfully I hadn't unloaded it yet.)

"We're charging you under the open container law."
"But, officer, I was using it to melt my tires out!"

I have a feeling he is going to plead not guilty and make this go to trial. He can't get the death penalty and he can't get life without parole, but he is looking at 40 years minimum behind bars before he can come up for parole…If I understood right.

I'm concerned about this as well. He was asking the judge questions about his legal rights. (The media has not yet reported what those questions were, specifically.)

I think he's going to be a PITA.

AND alcohol won't freeze in general- so win win!!! :) :)

DA: Suspect in Jessica Ridgeway murder, Austin Sigg, will be tried as adult

Jessica Ridgeway mom, aunt at hearing

Excerpt: "The defense asked the judge to put all documents in the case under seal and issue a gag order in the case. The judge agreed to seal the documents, but did not issue a gag order.

In court, Sigg revoked the waiver of his rights that he signed when he was arrested Tuesday night. That means he can not be questioned without his attorneys present."

I'm not saying this to argue with anyone, but I have 4 nearly grown boys. You do understand how difficult it is to keep internet *advertiser censored* out of the sight of children once they are aware of it, right? Even for parents determined to do so, it is veryyyyyyyy difficult. Ipods, Ipads, smart phones, Ds's, xbox, laptops, etc all access the net now. All surf engines now have 'in private' mode, so checking the history is useless, no history will be there to see. Have a 'net nanny'? Yeah, how quickly they learn to either 1) boot in safe mode or 2) boot to another hard drive or thumbdrive. Voila, no restrictions. And no history. They pass these tips between them like thye used to pass around their Dad's playboys, only this access is unlimited and content can be anything and parents are not nearly as techy as their kids and never will be and and and..... It is really a tough situation.

It's interesting to me that he has a public defender. I don't think the trial will be big on a national level, but I would think it would be pretty high-profile in Denver. But for a case that's currently all over the media, you would think they would be signing up.

What tip? I didn't know there was a tip. tia

I don't know that there was a tip either, but it would make some sense that she (ex-GF), was close enough to him that she COULD have recognized the cross and sent in a tip.

His mother may have recognized it as well..and noticed it missing. We don't know at this time, but SOMETHING got the ball rolling where he told his mother what he had done. JMO

Just before going to bed last night i logged on my pc and saw the fantastic news of the arrest...i tell you my eyes nearly popped out of my head, It never entered my head that someone so young would have committed this crime, although the more i read about this guy, the more it makes it seems to fit.

God bless you Jessica and your family.

Oh, and, smart phones are now allowed at my teen son's schools. My kids have limited or no access to the net on their phones, but their friends? Who knows. And I am pretty sure their cohorts are accessing and showing things I really would prefer my kids not see. But once it's in been seen, it can't be unseen.

OT: My son - who is almost 10 - went to some friends' home to play a year or so ago. They are brothers, 9 and 11. I asked what they did, and he said that a neighbor boy - who was 15 - came over and wrestled with them in the basement. DS did not want to wrestle with the big boy so he wrestled with the younger brother. He said he didn't like the teenager. My red flag went off, and he hasn't gone back over there since. DH and I both wonder what interest would a teen have in playing with young boys?!? I didn't like it. At all.

Children have great intuition. When my son was 8 or 9, there was another boy that liked my son. He would often pounce on him to wrestle. My son was so uncomfortable with whatever the boy was doing that I asked the boy's father to talk to his son ... but the father blew it off as "boys will be boys". My son was one of the few children that was approved by the family to visit with their son ... but my son wanted nothing to do with it. That boy is now 17 years old, a complete oddball, and I know that his uncle has schizophrenia (as I attended grade school with the uncle). I've kind of kept updated on how that boy is doing because I know that there's something just a little off with him.

This is true. I agree with others who say ... This IS our world today. You can't hide from it. You can't go without technology. You can make things more difficult, obviously, but education will work better than total restriction. I don't know the answer for someone who has an addiction; I haven't had to deal with that, thank God. But for the vast majority of "normal" people, go about it through self discipline and education. Our church does a day with the youth every year (splitting up by gender of course) where they discuss *advertiser censored* and what it does, to the viewer, the participant, the seller, etc. They do mission work with women who have been in sex slavery, and with their children. THey don't hide from it, because eventually you can't hide from everything. You have to face it, and determine how to respond.

He interrupted the judge and revoked the waiver. Yep, he's going to be a PITA.

(I have to say I detest defense attorney's motives. If they were just to provide a "best defense under the law" I wouldn't mind, but it always turns into a "gotta get the client off" competition with the prosecutor. I hate this crap.)

Well, of course a lawyer can't solicit a case ... But it wouldn't surprise me at all if he has a hired lawyer by the next hearing.

BBM: UGH!! Figured it would happen but UGH!!!

This link was posted by someone up thread. On pic #36 it says that investigators are looking at the back yard and it's referred to as a crime scene. Do you think he was brazen enough to have dismembered sweet Jessica in his own backyard?
----------------

As sickening as that thought is, I read a case of a murderer in England who literally used his barbeque grill to dispose of remains.

I'm sorry if that is graphic--it is true.

Saw a pic of his Dad's house on TV (can't remember which station, but I think also KDVR), but it is basically an 'estate' in Parker with a gate and everything. Which surprised me, but I think that might be with whom he was vacationing. Same report that showed the house said his Dad was currently on business in Mexico as well when this went down yesterday.

Now I'm confused - is the same dad with shady background?? If so, what a recovery.

And re: older kids playing with younger. Not always bad but I guess you'd have to be there to get the vibe yourself, my 18 yo would play with neighbor boys IF they came over - guessing they are 12 and 15, but then again, they were shooting hoops and playing football and my youngest was there. It may be the only kids in the neighborhood. But wrestling in the basement - yes, if son gets a hinky feeling and so do you, by all means put a stop to it or don't go over anymore. I'm a big believer in gut feelings.

Ah, like maybe they knew about the attack and that's why they got him help?

That's what I'm wondering ... whether that attack on the woman in the park triggered some activities in the home and the *advertiser censored* fixation was discovered. I would like to know more about the dates. If the first attack in the park was followed by *advertiser censored* addiction counselling, the second attack was followed by a quick trip out of the country and the murder of Jessica resulted in suspicions that were ignored until the cross was all over the news. Still, the cross information was published on the weekend and it was Tuesday that his mother called in the tip. That sounds like a few days of thinking about what to do ... counselling and leaving the country were no longer acceptable solutions to the problem.
