Bones found in Colorado could be Joe Keller's, but concerned citizens getting few answers about case

From your link:

"Galvez said the Kellers refused to consider that Keller may have run away from home.

The family doesn't think that's likely. They say he was wearing only a T-shirt, shorts and running shoes and left behind his debit and credit cards, cash, phone, clothing and computer."

He was wearing a T-SHIRT??
Really?
I thought he went running shirtless.

"Clothing
red pair of jogging shorts with reflective stripes on side and blue running shoes with an orange trim."

Hmm, I bet these are the bones in question:
http://blogs.denverpost.com/coldcases/2016/01/14/colorado-14/10364/

"Rust revealed the belt buckle clue in a phone interview Thursday. Bones were found in Saguache County last week between Highways 17 and 285.

Rust said the bones were found on Jan. 8 only five miles east of his brother’s home.

“You could see this place from Mike’s house,” he said.

The belt buckle was a prized possession for the man who was inducted into the Colorado Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 1991.

“It was a special belt buckle. He wore it every day,” Rust said."

I wonder where in the Rio Grande National Forest these bones were found. The forest is almost two million acres. Oh, and the article says the bones were found "*near* Colorado's remote and beautiful Rio Grande National Forest" (emphasis mine). I wonder if anyone in any position of anything but hope or sensationalism suspects the remains to be Joe Keller's.

"The human remains found this year were buried between Highways 17 and 285 in Saguache County, near the northern side of the national forest. That's about 100 miles away from where Keller was last seen — much closer to where Rust disappeared."

So, the article mentions Joe Keller but towards the end of the article it mentions Rust.

Yeah, I would say that the bones are likely Not Joe Keller's.
IMOO.

I just went back and re-read the Times Free Press article. It seems I didn't read to the end the first time.

Wow. Just so sad.

Why did Galvez lie about contacting and working with the FBI and CBI?

Amazed that all of these people just vanish from the area without a trace.....

" “The day after Joe went missing, I had called CBI up that day,” the sheriff said. “I knew they couldn’t help me because it was a missing person.” "

"Galvez said CBI personnel ended up coming down roughly a week to 10 days after the search started."

"Galvez said FBI personnel from its field offices in Colorado and Tennessee also are involved in the investigation."

The phrasing from law enforcement agencies seems to me to be mostly carefully phrased. There's something Galvez, CBI, and FBI are carefully not saying, in my opinion.

Yet in the new article above, the CBI and the FBI both denied they are involved with Joes case. if this is true, the sheriff out and out lied about it. I think he needs to be investigated, jmo.

My thoughts exactly.

Re Treelights post :) Why would he state that CBI can't help because it is a missing persons case? Doesn't make sense to me unless I am missing something.

Very odd

"The Bradley County Sheriff's office told the Times Free Press it had examined voicemails and texts on all the devices belonging to Joe and his friends and found no hints of depression or discord."

BBM. I have never understood the Bradley County Sheriff's office's involvement in the investigation. They have no jurisdiction over the case. It was also the Bradley County Sheriff Eric Watson who "told the Times Free Press that Fetzner and Gwaltney both volunteered to take polygraphs and easily passed. "

It still bothers me to this day ....

My opinion about that is that he didn't lie, that he did contact them, and he perhaps did not ask for help.
IMOO.

I think that there is more to this than is being told.

Joe's personal life...
Maybe he met someone there, or maybe his beliefs are different
than others, and maybe he left on his own...

IMOO.

"Gwaltney doesn't think Keller ran off of his own free will. "He was overall very happy," he maintains. "We'd joke around. He never showed any signs of wanting to intentionally leave."

With that in mind, he thinks "one of the biggest possibilities" is "kidnapping. Someone driving by and picking him up."

This possibility is among the explanations being explored by the Bradley County Sheriff's Office, which has consulted with the FBI on the case — and on August 9, the BCSO Facebook page announced that Lieutenant Brian Quinn and Detective Sergeant Kevin Chastain were traveling to Colorado to lend a hand with the investigation."

I guess his friend doesn't entertain the idea that Joe could have fallen somewhere.
As this article states, even his friend thinks someone could have picked him up.

My personal take, though, is that Joe was not kidnapped, but perhaps he left on his own free will, or he fell and his remains hopefully will be found.

I find it strange that Kidnapping is thought about Before falling, before being disoriented, before hypothermia, before altitude sickness, etc.

And the thought that he could have been picked up by someone is clearly there...

IMOO.

Hopping on here. I'm only on page nine of the thread but I have a question that's stood out to me from the beginning. Did anyone see Joseph beside the two friends once they arrived? Did the aunt see them? IMO it's strange there isn't even a trace of him and even the dogs didn't pick up a scent. Is it possible Joseph did not arrive in Antonito and was left behind at the previous stop, either on his own will or against his will? If he did arrive where was the third friend during the run? Is there a witness that can account for his whereabouts This is all just bazaar to me that if they knew where he was, how far he can run in the time allotted and there's nothing.

That's what I keep wondering about - what does he gain by lying? Is he hiding something?
And the comment ""Sheriff Galvez asserted that he would have no direct communication with the Kellers in the future," the post reads." WHY???
It sounds like more than just "don't care about people from out of town" and more than "my county, my jurisdiction". IMO
Are there things going on in "his" county that he doesn't want anyone else to know about?
I wonder if anyone ever opposes him at election time?
Frustrating doesn't even begin to address what his family is feeling. Everyone here thinks there is much more to the story.

For starters, no one is saying Sheriff Galvez is a big far liar.

For starters, no one is saying Sheriff Galvez is a big far liar.

Some people in Tennessee have broadly implied that Sheriff Galvez is a big fat liar, but if anyone at the CBI or FBI believes there's a big fat liar involved in this case, it's not Sheriff Galvez they're thinking of, IN MY OPINION.

I agree. I don't know what it is, but I agree. They felt that not enough was being done so they offered to come to CO. Does that usually happen?

No, it doesn't usually happen. I can't think of another situation in which anything like that has happened - especially the part where a law enforcement agency with no relevant jurisdiction makes statements not in cooperation with the agency with jurisdiction that seem to be intended to clear people of suspicion. Weird. And inappropriate, imo.
