I think the police must not be releasing much info because imo there was quite a bit to go on in this case. I know with what they had they have more info than is being released.

I totally agree with you. I thought that for a while, especially as they are being so tight lipped about the brunettes.

Another story about Kara. What I found interesting from this story.
"It's really opened our eyes," Garnica said of Nichols' disappearance. "That thought of, 'It will never happen to me,' has now happened to someone within our own family."

Garnica's models are often shot posing provocatively, and he describes his business as 'The Victoria's Secret of Colorado.' He said he photographs and promotes models and helps them connect with photographers, stylists and fashion designers. He said he last talked to Nichols more than six months before she disappeared.

I thought the BD fb page said they had received an email from Kara the day she went missing. I suppose he could just be talking about himself personally and someone else runs the fb for him.

Yes, you are right there! Well spotted. I remember reading the message on BD's fb page from Kara's friend/bf? shortly after Kara went missing. He asked if they had seen her, that she was missing. They replied they hadn't talked to her since (going by memory) Oct 9th...he replied that's the day she went missing! Hmmm i think i'll do some digging.

Well spotted MissSunshine!!

What is with Colorado and missing teens??? And the fact that LE seems to play things tight there. Not only that but it seems the the media wants sensationalism or they won't take on the story. With LE not releasing anything for the news media to report, it's hard to keep these kid's face and names out there.

I wish her parents would contact Marc Klaas or someone like him. He would advise them, especially about how important it is to be open in order to have the best chance to find Kara, IMO.

Excellent idea! He did so much for the Sierra Lamar case.

Does his organization help find missing adults?? Or just kids?? I think he deals in just helping find missing minors. I could be wrong though, not like that hasn't happened before.

Kara Nichols' mom reveals new information in disappearance

Speaks about daughter's involvement in drugs, prostitution

A few qoutes from article

[quoteFor the first time, Julia Nichols is talking about her 19-year-old daughter Kara's involvement in drugs and prostitution.

"We were reluctant to portray our daughter as just a no good person that no one should care about," Nichols said. "She's our daughter. We love her dearly."

Nichols said it was only after Kara went missing in October that she learned what was going on in her daughter's life.

"We've been told from the beginning they suspect foul play both because of her issues with drugs and the link to prostitution," Nichols said.
][/quote]

But she said honesty about Kara's past has national media, once interested in the case, no longer wanting to talk about it. Nichols said interviews have suddenly been canceled.

"It's as though we're re-victimized. That our daughter is blamed for her mistakes and her troubles, and our story isn't nice enough to be told by the media," said Nichols.

Very interesting article. So sad that in the light of Kara's involement in the sex industry that interviews are being cancelled and interest lost in Kara

I really feel for Kara's parents. They really didn't know that there daughter was involved in drugs and prostitution. How could they? Teenagers are so vunerable and susceptible to the influences around them (ie, friends, rommates, work enviroment)...

Where are you Kara? I just hope you come home safely intothe loving arms of your parents sometime soon, i really do.

How sad. I can feel her family's pain. Hopefully Kara will be found soon, is long overdue.
If she was willingly with that crowd in the world of escorts/prostitution, IMO she would not have disappeared so abruptly and so mysterious. Why would she? She is 19 and she can do as she pleases. I know 21 is the big girl age, but at 19 the children are not children anymore and many of them are living alone, working and some even have children at that age already.
I think police would have tracked her down by now, if she really was an escort advertising her services. I believe she was involved with the wrong people and because she wasn't willing they made her cooperating with them with force. Otherwise why wouldn't she just go to the clients on appointments and back to her room every times? Or say to her friends she is moving to another city for work and go live together with other girls who are doing the same "job" and nobody would know otherwise.
IMO going out partying, taking drugs and mixing with the wrong crowd made made her very vulnerable, but if she was willing I see no reason for her to go missing this way.

They will look for missing adults, too.

This is so sad.

Our society really needs to stop treating victims who had drug problems and/or engaged in prostitution as disposable.

How many times have we seen serial perpetrators prey on drug addicts or prostitutes and get away with it because victims are written off when they disappear or are found dead due to their "lifestyles"?

For example, Brandon Lavergne (abductor & killer of murdered middle class University of Louisiana student Mickey Shunick) had killed a woman (Lisa Pate) with a known drug addiction more than 10 years before killing Mickey. Lisa was written off because of her "lifestyle." No one seemed too worried about catching her killer until he made the mistake of kidnapping & murdering a middle class college student whose well-educated & well-resourced family was able to make a big rukus in the community & media. How many other unknown "Lisas" did Lavergne kill before murdering Mickey & getting caught? (Lavergene is now in jail for both Mickey & Lisa's murders)

In many of the deaths/disappearances of women by serial perpetrators, how many victims would have been saved if previous missing persons/murder cases of women involved in drugs and/or prostitution had received more coverage, interest, and investigation?

Even if people write some victims off because of their "lifestyles" (which is indeed beyond disgusting), you'd think they'd care because they, their daughters, their neighbor, etc. might be the perp's victim later on if he is a serial perpetrator.

Women are not disposable - even those with "high-risk lifestyles."

It really is sad that Kara is considered not worth looking for or giving media time to because she was involved in the drug/prostitution lifestyle. She was not a disposable piece of garbage. She deserves to be treated the way every other missing 19 year old girl does. It's sad that the news media won't continue to get the word out on this young woman. Yet I see it over and over again in cases where the victim leads a colorful lifestyle. That's just not right.

Unfortunately, there are so many victims that the national media ignores, even ones that didn't lead dangerous lifestyles. Dylan Redwine has barely received any national coverage, for instance. It is very unfortunate, because the national media is just so vast nowadays. I understand about ratings, and I'm not asking for wall-to-wall coverage. But with the 24/7 media, plus all media outlets having websites with dozens of headlines, it wouldn't kill them to mention these cases. Heck, most of the news websites have entire sections just for crime. When I hear about Elaine Redwine begging the national media for coverage, and being ignored...I think: Is it that impossible for GMA to do a 3-minute segment about say, the rally at Mark's house? It's not like everyone watching the show that morning is going to change the channel the second Dylan or Kara's face comes on, and GMA is going to suffer some huge loss in revenue, blah blah.

Kara's mom wrote that the family was offered to go on Anderson's show, but decided not to because it would be too light of a discussion. Um, it's for getting the word out! She also claims that the producers say they will work on getting the case out in the future. Except Anderson's show is ending in two months. I'm sorry, but the producers just told the parents that to be cordial because there's no way a year from now, they can call them up and get on whatever show the producers are now working on.

She writes that the producers wouldn't take about the websites because it's too "dark" for them.

I have seen many parents of missing children go on Maury....Maury...the show whose slogan is: "You are not the father!" Very trashy TV, but parents will go on his show because it's a way to get the word out.

Their best chance at finding her or finding out what happened to her is to hire a PI. It's really that simple. The media won't be of much help in this case even if they gave more coverage, IMO. They don't/won't go where someone needs to go to get answers in a situation like this.

Now that it's come to light about her lifestyle I am really worried about her. :(

How many cases have there been about someone sold to slavery that got reunited with their family? And how long are they usually gone for?
