Do they have any video or witnesses to place Kayleah inside the mall? Or does it seem that she was walking past the mall on her way to the party?

Do we know how close it is from the mall to the party location?

The party was supposed to be at the 1900 block of 30th Street which is right by the mall and apartments it looks like on google. Right behind there is 30th Street Road and it is houses.

I feel knowing that the party was to be in the 1900 block of 30th street that it is possible that Kayleah could have walked into the mall near the movie theatre and out the exit on the south side of the mall. The 1900 block is more towards the eastern part of 30th street and IMO it would have been another way for her to go. Especially if she wanted to go through the mall real fast. Maybe to see who was hanging out etc... If she didn't go into the mall, then yes I agree she probably cut across the parking lot and passed JC Penney's as the pp suggested.

There is video of Kayleah 'outside' the mall on her way to the party - she was NOT carrying any shopping bags or clothes. I think we are trying to figure out where and how she would walk past the mall on her way to the party. Being map impaired, I find that part very difficult. lol

RBStark, If you do get out could you drive down 30th Street Road and at about 1868 there is a house with a big weeping willow out front and it looks like you can cut through that yard at the side and get to the apartments on 30th street. Can you just look and see if that is an open shortcut? and just look on that street for any other shortcuts?

The parking lot at the mall encircles the entire span in a rectangular shape around the mall. The boundaries between

North-Highway 34
West-23rd Avenue
South- 30th Street
East- 17th Avenue (except for a small chunk where there are businesses/apartments on the very se corner)

RBStark, If you do get out could you drive down 30th Street Road and at about 1868 there is a house with a big weeping willow out front and it looks like you can cut through that yard at the side and get to the apartments on 30th street. Can you just look and see if that is an open shortcut? and just look on that street for any other shortcuts?

I think I know where you are going with this and YES I agree this would be a great answer to get.

23rd ave runs along the west side of the mall and 30th street runs along the south side of the mall. Obviously I don't know how far the cameras range but it would make sense to come down 23rd ave and cross the parking lot to 30th street that would be a short cut, so I would guess the cameras would have a good view of the parking lot. If the rain stops today I will go out and take some pictures to give everyone a better view of this area....hard to describe to give you a good visual....

Thanks rb-- I'm just assuming she walked outside the mall because security people generally hassle kids who use malls as a shortcut, and assuming she would be heading east, I'd be most interested in what the mall looks like on the east side. I'm starting to get the idea there was a creep who hung around there. Cops may have even been aware of it. They did say they were taking their time washing out some of the POIs.

Didn't one of the articles have a quote from another friend of hers that said Kayleah was supposed to sleep over at her house that night?

I remember something where a girl said she was thinking about inviting K for a sleepover, not that she had done it.

whatever kayleah may have been thinking or may have done (i.e. accepted a ride, stopped to talk to someone) she certainly can no longer be considered to have left on her own after all this time...even if she had taken a bus too much time has passed and too much media for something (bad) not to have happened since. I think LE knows this and may be holding out hope that if Kayleah is alive, they want her to know it does not matter how she got into whatever it is...just that no one is mad at her. That said, I think ground searches need to continue...

Not that it couldn't be done, but the planning, etc. it would take at that point would make it appear to NOT be random. That or someone lured her away -- but I'm not sure I buy that, from what I read of her, that she would have gone willingly with a stranger.

Now, more than ever, I feel Kayleah had every intention of meeting her friend and/or going to the party. Keeps getting closer and closer to her destination and 'poof', she is suddenly no where to be seen. This poor child - hope they find her soon.

Also, considering she'd had a serious boyfriend, I wondered if she might be pregnant and didn't know how to face the family. Then I came across this link...

It mentions an email from a friend, and her grandmother saying she may be pregnant/afraid. (I take that "maybe" as something grandma has considered a possibility).

You know, looking back at the map, it does make sense that she might cut through. I am directionally challenged, for sure! (Also, a kid that age wouldn't def. be drawn to the mall, even as a cut through, etc.).

Not too far from my home, we just had a report last week of a 17 year old girl standing at the end of her driveway for the morning school bus (7:15 a.m.) and 2 guys in a car pulled up, the passenger got out and grabbed the 17 yo around the neck and tried to grab her in the car. The ONLY way this girl got away, she punched him in the face and kicked him in the groin. Otherwise, who knows! (Praise God)

My gut feeling on this is that maybe something like this has happened to Kayleah. And she was unable to get away.

P.S. - LE has not been able to find the guys that did this here... We are all on our toes watching out over our kids!

I had to use the story of Kayleigh as an example today and it breaks my heart.
My 10 yr old grandson does not understand why he can't walk from my house to his great grandma's house by himself.
I said I trust you, but there are to many crazy people in the world.
I must walk with you with the dog.
We live in a beautiful condo area, but someone decided to rent to a RSO.
You just never know who is lurking where, anymore.
It's like the big bad wolf in the woods stalking little red riding hood.
No one is safe to walk by themselves anywhere..............poor Kayleigh,
I'm afraid something bad has happened once again to a sweet little girl.

That makes me incredibly sad.....I must be naive....that or the perps are getting a lot bolder. :'(

I've been waiting for more info before I went out and took pics again. I am going to at lunchtime, so I'll try to get this area you are talking about.

I really don't think she would have went through the mall as a shortcut, but if she were trying to waste a few minutes, maybe. When I was out on the 1st taking pics, I did not see any surveillance cameras in the parking lot, only ones attached to the delivery doors - the big garage type. I will look at that area more closely, though. If the party was in the 1900 blk of 30th, it is very small run-down apts that I have a pic of on that photobucket acct. I also have a pic of the parking lot where she would have crossed, but knowing now this is very likely, I'll get more.

Once she came across 23rd ave, she would cut through the parking lot from the northwest corner heading southeast. If the apts are the 1900 30th st, they are about halfway down 30th st - about halfway in the parking lot. She would have probably walked by the Perkins and Olive Garden and would be half way between the RoadKill Cafe and the mall by the Dillards and JC Penney entrances. Keep in mind from the map Grayjay posted, the mall is not that close to the streets. There is quite a bit of parking lot between, as well as outlying businesses.

I wonder, since now they are saying she was supposed to meet the friend before the party/mall area, that the friend didn't wait and the reason we are hearing nothing about/from them is because of the guilt they feel ???
