I'm a long time lurker who has been following this thread from inception.

There has been so much discussed thus far, my brain is a bit scattered with all the details pouring out.

I absolutely believe at some point SW and CW discussed separation and CW came to the realization that he was:

-Going to have to pay child support for three children.
-Be responsible for half their debt.
-Split the sale of the house/assets.
-Pay lawyer fees for the divorce.
-Pay a percentage of three childrens' medical/dental care. (the highest medical cost being the birth of their third child)

We now know that he was involved with a co-worker, how likely would that affair or any new relationship last if he was tied financially to his family? He had a newly fit body, presumably developed confidence from the affair, and a decent enough income. But the debt and financial obligations far exceeded what he could afford in order to play bachelor...gas in the tank but nowhere to go, so to speak. I believe this played into his frustrations.

SW had spent a large chunk of time out of town visiting family. He had freedom. But it was short lived and then immediately followed by caring for their two girls. Possibly the mistress was done playing second fiddle to the "perfect family" persona while he straightened his end of things out. She may not have known about his family, but I doubt it. I think a possible scenario is that the AP gave him an ultimatum. Get out of the marriage or we are done. I have no idea if she was married as well. I'm sure it will all come out in the wash.

SW's income revolved around the persona of being in the perfect marriage with the best husband ever. They portrayed themselves as the Joneses. SW's world was falling apart around her, although she did have massive support in family back in NC. I believe that the women in SW's mother's shop knew what was going on behind closed doors because gossip is what hair salons live by. I think she would have come out the other end of a divorce completely fine with her family's/friends' support and her children. This is why I do not believe she laid an aggressive hand on her girls.

As CW said in his horrid relationship video, I believe he fell out of love gradually. He fell out of love with the idea of their marriage. And instead grew to resent the perfect persona they had to portray for SM/the MLM. He resented his children for existing because they caused a roadblock to "his happiness" and a financial tie that he couldn't afford. Or didn't want to afford. He wanted to press the reset button and thankfully was too unintelligent to do so without leaving piles of evidence everywhere he went.

If she was talking about separation, she KNEW about the affair, not just suspected it, and SW and CW had had words about it - confrontations, arguments, tears (at least on her part)

A pregnant woman with two small children needs to be sure before she makes a move to independence. It isnt the kind of move you make on the basis of speculation, alone

He is lying about the discussion the night of her death. I'm firmly convinced she had found proof and already confronted him, then starts the talk about a separation....

I believe she was murdered in bed. Not to be gross or graphic, but strangulation is not a quick or easy death. Victims violently struggle during what’s called “air hunger,” and once hypoxia sets in they may urinate or lose control of their bodily functions.

Quick though & requiring very little actual pressure due to the block of bloodflow to main arteries - hypoxia vs anoxia options according to this US site. ( I already posted them so already had them)

Maybe her concerned friend backed her own car up into the driveway, up to the garage door, then used the bumper to step up onto to peek in through those upper windows (of the garage doors)?

From CW's interview, he said the garage door is always unlocked, right around 4:50 (I think)

Full interview with Chris Watts 24 hours before he reportedly confessed to killing family

Wasn't trying to make the sheets a 'red t-shirt'.
It just puzzled me that he would be that unintelligent to leave incriminating evidence at a crime scene. ??? I mean who is that stupid?
Unless they were 'meant' to be found ... having the DNA evidence he wanted them to find on them?
Just can't wrap my head around a person being that bumbling. Matching sheet in the trash at home & at the disposal site??

I'll let it drop ... Just baffles me. I'm not the brightest, but, I guess dumb criminals do get many viewers on YouTube - must be many, many out there. :)

Thank goodness SW's flight was DELAYED! She was supposed to be home from her trip at 11 pm, and that's what he was banking on with his murderous plot. But due to storms, her flight was delayed and she didn't get home until 2 am.
He didn't have enough time to clean up properly, sheets still in garbage, get rid of SW's purse, keys, phone etc. He still had to dispose of 3 bodies while it was still dark < (that was hard to type!) and he HAD to make sure he was at work on time that morning! He must have gone straight in to work! I'm sue he planned on going home after work to get rid of evidence!

Two things he did NOT count on
1. Shannan's not arriving home until early that morning.
2. Shanann's friend checking on her before noon!!

I wonder how this parallel track they both seemed to be on with Thrive changed the dynamics of their relationship-

- they both lost weight
- they both report having a lot more energy/ being more active
- they both had an increased SM presence

It would seem that for some couples, this would bring them closer together. But something went off the rails here.

Note I am not blaming this murder on Thrive.

He may have felt threatened by her increased confidence. Did that lead to him having an affair?

A big missing element in this case is the role of the affair partner. That is going to be very interesting to hear about - how long they've been involved, where they met, the nature of their relationship- who pursued who, etc.

I read that SW was married and divorced prior to her marriage to CW and that when they moved from NC to CO she sold her home and used that as the downpayment, again I don't recall where I read that, and I could be wrong.

But, you are 100% that it is HUGE incentive to get rid of her, the kids, the 3rd kid he didn't want and sell that house, have a nice tidy nest egg and a wealthy smart AP..again just our own opinions! If I can find where I read SW paid the downpayment I will link it.

Filing for bankruptcy 3 years in to the marriage, sounds like SW was in trouble with this guy right off the bat..its really so so sad...

Based on the bankruptcy filing and what I know about HOA liens, I don’t believe he stood to gain anything as far as the house is concerned. In fact, I believe it was more like they were about to face foreclosure (see my previous posts).

I think he was angry that she took this trip which cramped his style with the co worker and left him with the kids. When the flight was delayed that's when he lost it and all his resentment of her and the kids came into play. Once she was dead he had no choice but to get rid of the kids, he certainly didn't want to be stuck with them, and he started thinking up a plausible runaway scenario.

JMO
I agree with this theory.

I know I havent followed this case too closely so there are things that may not fit but I cant shake the feeling that he killed her the moment she got home and then killed the kids because they witnessed the big fight.

I think he was getting madder and madder at her the whole time she was gone and a big fight broke out the moment she walked in the door. I think the kids woke up and witnessed the whole thing and he felt he had to get rid of them because they saw what he did.

If it turns out he killed them even before she came home then he is even sicker than I have him pegged.

Either way I am totally convinced he killed all three of them.

This article Shanann Watts Met Husband Chris Online During Dark Period 8 Years Before Murder: 'He Is Amazing' describes her video where she says she initially rejected his fb friend request, and then only agreed because she thought she'd never meet him in person.

So it seems like she was the prize and he had to win her, and that's pretty motivating for many men, they'll do whatever it takes. Not out of empathy, but because it's how you get what you want.

Interesting. Don't know how I missed this before.

This is exactly how my ex and ex-friend narcs met women. Only online. It was easier for them to create an ideal persona that way.

THIS. The same way I’m thinking. Shoes by front door (she kicked them off), suitcase at bottom of stairs as was stated officially, maybe went to kitchen for a glass of water, upstairs then flopped in bed, looked at the monitor on her night stand. To show two beds in one room, the camera had to be near the ceiling and on night vision mode, they’d appear to be in slumber. Shoot, but her cell phone was found in the loft area, so there goes my thought on a peaceful type murder (for lack of better verbiage).

You just brought up a point I had never even considered that prompted me to post for the very first time. Do we know that the girls shared a room? In a 5 bedroom house (or 4? I can’t remember) that seems absurd. We have a similar monitor so, if the girls did NOT share a room, he would have had to wait for the video display to cycle between the 2 rooms to have been able to see one girl laying on the bed “blue” and her in the other room. Unless theirs shows multiple rooms at once. Either way, ridiculously absurd (IMO)

On the witness list, what do italics mean? SW's parents and brother are listed in bold italics. I'm curious about the formatting.
And how on Earth did some people see an unredacted version? Wouldn't someone be in trouble if they released LE info that wasn't supposed to be released?

I can actually answer this because it happened in another case. The question about the redaction which are the black shaded areas on a redacted document.

The answer is an incredibly stupid mistake by the people doing the retracting.

Was on another case and when you cut+pasted the redacted document over to another spot then all the redaction disappears and you see the text.

If they would have done it right then that would not happen.

I think the exact same thing happened here.

There’s a long video on her FB...she starts inside the house then goes outside...and she talks about saving up herself for her first house. It didn’t sound like she was married...it was like she did it all on her own.

SW was married to an attorney in NC w/the last name King. They bought a home (which I’m assuming SW got in the divorce). She sold this home & then quickly bought the CO home on Saratoga Trail in 2013. (The Watts married in 2012). It is noted she was in a rush to sell & even left furniture for the new buyers.

I’m surprised, given their income at the time, that they were approved for a $400,000 house. Whether she used her money from the sale of her NC house as a down payment is up for debate. I suppose it doesn’t really matter. Either way, we know by the June 2015 filing, CW had gotten a job six months earlier as an operator for Anadarko, and paystubs indicate his salary was about $61,500 per year.

SW was working at the time in a call center at a children’s hospital earning about $18 per hour. Combined, they had earned $90,000 in 2014.

But they also had tens of thousands of dollars in credit card debt, along with some student loans and medical bills - for a total of $70,000 plus $400,000 owed on the mortgage.

It should be noted student loan debt is not forgiven in bankruptcy and the Watts were not paying their HOA dues resulting in a lien on the Saratoga property.

This guy was about control. The most dangerous time around abusers is when you decide on an action.

Whether he "snapped" or planned it, his biggest mistake was putting the little girls in an oil container. That pegs him, and also, when jurors see those pictures, he is done. As someone stated earlier, at least Jeffrey McDonald tucked his girls back in bed.

:p Ur probably right.

I'm waiting for someone to solve why the SW cell is up in the loft area instead of the master. I think the new posters should have a crack at that puzzle.
It's hard to decipher because I'm not sure of the house layout. If I had to guess, I would say he either hid it there so she couldn't call for help, or she took it there. I imagine that they had a huge blow out argument when she arrived home. Maybe she mentioned triggers (ie child support/financial ties/horrible husband and father) they took a breather like he mentioned, but she went to lay on the couch.

If she knew he had been having an affair, why would she want to sleep in a bed the mistress might have been in? He might have followed her and continued the argument, the phone slipped between cushions. Maybe that couch is where he became physical with her.

Thank you! I’m confused by the timeline .. if the house was included in the 2015 chapter 7 they could have years to live there before it was gone and the money is forfeited so to speak, no selling it for profit?

Maybe he hid her phone so it wouldn’t be within reach (say, on her nightstand) as he attacked her in bed asleep. He seems like he’d take the cowardly way about his murders.

I don't know.... but are you thinking what I'm thinking?
His alleged mistress name....and Nico...damn he's an ahole. (maybe this has been mentioned already)

Also they most likely just found out the sex of the baby right? 15 weeks? Had to be recently.

I've seen nothing in mainstream media about alleged mistress with that name. But the friend that is a guy that he was staying with, that has a derivative of the name. Is there something I'm missing?

Right.
