1) Overwhelming evidence of guilt
2) To avoid having ALL of his dirty laundry laid out for the rest of the world.
3) To avoid having ALL of his dirty laundry laid out for his mother, as he sat there and listened.
4) Possibly - to stick it to his mother. I suspect there is a LOT of complication to unpack in their relationship, and that he let Shanann take the heat for being the one who came between them, when the reality of it was that HE wanted to get away from Dearest mother. I know this one sounds like a stretch, but I do think there could have been an aspect of 'you don't control me' that came into play here.
BBM

I think there is a lot of truth to this. I think he was being extremely passive-aggressive with both his mom and his wife in making it seem like Shanann was at fault for any distance or problems while at the same time being more than happy to enjoy the distance from his mom. I have a family member who deals with this. Her mother lets her second husband be the bad guy, and all the kids blame him. The conveniently ignore the fact that mom goes along with it--probably because it lets her do her own thing but never seem like the one who is at fault. I suspect CW has a similar personality.

I watched a fadci

I watched a fascinating series called “In Defense Of”. They interviewed Bundy’s lawyer and 3 other high profile cases defense lawyers. Bundy’s lawyer said that although that was a popular theory he did not think it was a factor that caused his killing spree but did influence who his targets/victims were. He said he was just pure evil and mentally crazy. He described one jail house visit, Bundy was on the floor having a psychotic episode, babbling about killing. His lawyer watched as Ted slowly rises from the floor and as he did his face returned to “normal” and it was as if the episode had never happened - he said it was the most chilling thing he has ever seen.

Gacy's attorney wrote about an almost exact replica of that story!! Same exact thing. He said he would have never believed it if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes.

Agreed. She said there is no difference between a death sentence and life in prison. It seems like her thinking is just go for it - fight, take your chances, nothing to lose. Maybe you'll get lucky with a juror or two. I just can't believe she is going on tv and actually saying this out loud to the public instead of pretending to mourn the family her son killed!
Exactly. She doesn’t care what it takes, just save my golden boy!

So who do you think will play Ma Watts in the movie that you know is already being planned?
I'm going with Kathy Bates. Have you ever seen Misery with her and James Caan?
I also thought it very strange when she said, "He's not the psychopath next door." Is it common for people to have psychopaths living next door? Very strange.
Guessing that she means sociopath. 'The Sociopath Next Door': Ruthless People
Do we know if his parents ever visited them in Colorado?
Yes, they did. We've seen a video of SW, CW, Bella and CeCe with CW's parents in downtown Denver. MOO

Do we know if his parents ever visited them in Colorado?
Yeah there are videos and photos posted on SW’s fb page of them visiting. They watched the girls for one of their Thrive trips too. That to me says a lot about SW. She must have been doing what she could to repair their relationship and allow them to spend so much alone time with girls. SW’s friend Lauren has said there are so many bad stories about SW and MIL and she can’t wait until she can tell them.

Denver Fox 31 Legal Experts weigh in on Momma Watts:

Legal experts, not involved in the case weighed in on the new developments. Defense attorney Chris Decker said, “Basically a desperate act by a loving mother who probably has no idea of the particulars of the evidence or her sons criminal acts or decisions in the aftermath of them. Not particularly uncommon for a mother to have the perspective of “not my son”. The court probably won’t take any action unless something is filed or raised by the defense.”

Defense attorney Harvey Steinberg said there is a way to withdraw a plea before sentencing, but does not believe it will happen in this case. Steinberg said, “Remember the mother is not in a position to withdraw the plea. The mother can scream and yell and do everything she wants. Maybe it’s appropriate, maybe it’s not but ultimately it’s his decision after sitting and talking to his lawyers. There is a rule, rule 32 allows the withdraw of plea prior to sentencing if there is a fair and just reason. I don’t know what the fair and just reason is here. So do I think there is a likelihood that any judge would allow him to withdraw the plea? The answer is no.” [BBM]

Families of Shanann Watts, her 2 daughters and defendant in Watts murder case trade words
Yeah, “because my Mom wants me to and I don’t want to disappoint her”.

She repeats herself in the same manner than CW did in the porch interviews! "if they are...if they aren't safe.." odd repetitive wording.

"...if something happened that night and that did happen -- God forbid if it did happen..."

So truly odd. He has her speech patterns, read the interview. And idk how she can't break down sobbing about her grandchildren. It's all about CW...and her. The lack of variation in facial expressions, even while in tears, is unnerving.
After seeing the first interview I haven't been able to watch any more of them. The interviews should be forever known as "porch interviews continued".

I found this when googling. Looks like they were having a good time. Notice how CW’s father places his hand on CW’s Mom’s back around 1.0. Looks to me like he loves her.
“Bella said poppas her best friend” :(

Watching this and then thinking of CWs parents interview smh.

His mother just storms ahead with very little interaction but CWs dad held Bellas hand the whole time but does an interview with no emotion and little reference to the grandkids smh

From seeing his mother in the interviews I can imagine.

Mrs W started calling reporters on Monday questioning why her son took the plea deal without consulting his family.

They met in 2011 and married the next year. “We didn’t attend because Shan’ann and I just couldn’t get along”.

CW told his parents they were considering divorce. Then came the “disappearance”.

Q. Have you reconciled the idea that he could have done all of this?

A. Yes, and that scares me to death. It scares me to death to think that he could have done all of this, but I don’t see why he’s pleading guilty. I wouldn’t. I’d fight. I’d fight to the end. But then you ask yourself, ‘Would a normal person put, dispose of the bodies the way he did?”

I don’t want to hear another word from this woman. The BIB says it all. She knows he murdered Shan’ann and placed Bella and CeCe in the oil tanks and is forced to accept that. There’s no way she can try and shift the blame for these unspeakable acts onto anyone else and it obviously grinds her gears. She asks if a normal person would do this, and yet she wouldn’t plead guilty and would fight to the end. There’s something very, very wrong with this woman. She lives in an alternative universe.

Chris Watts' parents question plea deal in murder of wife, daughters

I would bet money tonight that, after hours of public comments on how they didn't mention their grandkids, tonight's interviews will have a different tone. I bet Bella and Celeste will be brought up with perhaps even a kind word tossed SW's way. I have no doubt that there are lurkers in the groups, on the forums, etc. and they're reporting back commenting on public perception. (Not blasting them from that. I'd probably do the same. As much as I wouldn't want to know what people were thinking, I'd kind of want to know anyway.)

Wow, it’s as if she doesn’t even want to be there with them.
I’d be back there walking with my grandchild and daughter in law with the video camera going!
