In my state we have the homestead act which protects one's home from bankruptcy or civil judgements against the homeowner. So yes, you can keep your home and file bankruptcy. Also there are different types of bankruptcy. There is Chapter 11 and 13 as well and perhaps others. So who knows. For those familiar with bankruptcy- is it typical to keep a home when you file? Are there conditions about selling said home for profit within a certain time period? The market was on the rise in 2015 so I'm wondering why they didn't sell then. MOO.
