Authorities are continuing to build a case against Chris Watts, the Colorado father accused of killing his 15-weeks-pregnant wife, Shan’ann Watts, and their two young daughters — and a source close to the investigation tells PEOPLE that it’s a lengthy process.

The source says one of the most daunting tasks is unravelingChris’ many suspected lies, including the allegation that he had an ongoing affair with a co-worker at the time of the triple slayings in mid-August.

“Every day, we learn more and more about him,” the source says in this week’s issue.

Chris Watts, the man accused of killing his pregnant wife and two young daughters, is under suicide watch in jail — and is under constant surveillance to ensure that he doesn’t harm himself.

Under Close Watch Protocol, Watts spends 23 hours a day in his jail cell, where he sits in protective custody. He does not have a cellmate.

Guards must check on Watts every 10-15 minutes to ensure his well-being and must make visual contact with him. Additionally, Watts is not allowed the same privileges as other people at the jail, including no access to weights, reading material and television.

A source close to the case confirmed to HLN’s Crime & Justice with Ashleigh Banfield on Tuesday that the co-worker — a woman — has met with investigators at least once and “answered all their questions.”

PEOPLE confirmed that report with separate source.

“She is cooperating,” the second source says, adding that the co-worker is not suspected of any criminal wrongdoing.

He [Chris Watts] had initially denied the work affair to police, his arrest affidavit alleges. But authorities said they carried out a two-day investigation and confirmed the cheating.

Chris’ co-worker is not his only alleged lover whom authorities have interviewed: Last week, an unnamed man came forward and spoke to HLN’s Ashleigh Banfield about a 10-month relationship he claimed to have with Chris before they split in the spring.

Wording of new motion in Watts case "unusual," former Boulder DA says

The prosecution had until Sept. 5 to file a response to the motion, though a response is not yet included on the case's page online.

Prosecutors are required to follow the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct, which forbids them from saying something outside of court that could create prejudice in a legal proceeding.

Frederick police Detective Dave Baumhover said the department also has a policy against making extrajudicial statements.

The FBI declined to comment on the issue and referred questions to the district attorney and Frederick police. CBI did not return a phone call seeking comment.

However, if anyone from the prosecution is making extrajudicial statements, Garnett said the onus would fall on the district attorney, who is tasked with ensuring law enforcement complies with the rules.

Christopher Watts, the Frederick man charged with murder in connection with the deaths of his pregnant wife and two young daughters, wants an investigation into whether prosecutors or police leaked information about the case to reporters, court documents show.

Prosecutors denied the accusation in a court filing and said that much of the information reported by news outlets came from the defense’s own court documents.

“There is no evidence any lawyer or other employee of the (Weld County) District Attorney’s Office has violated any rule of professional conduct or corresponding order of this Court,” the document states.

Chris Watts case: DNA evidence could prove to be 'smoking gun' if judge grants prosecution's motion

A judge could rule on some of the motions Thursday afternoon or evening. Prosecutors have asked Watts to provide them and police with buccal swabs for DNA, finger and palm prints and photographs of Watts’ hands.

And his defense attorneys have accused prosecutors of leaking information about the case to the press, though prosecutors have already tried to rebut those claims, according to documents released publicly.
